hi /n/. so I turned 18 a week ago. currently at community college trying to earn high school credits. I'll be here for awhile but when the time comes and I graduate I'll have no idea where to go from there.

>missed a whole year of school

>neet the entire time
>tried to go back to school
>wasn't working so I dropped out again, now I'm here in cc.

I don't want to work. I don't want to find a career. I don't want to move into a house, get married, and have to worry about a mortgage. All of this requires responsibility and effort and I seriously lack in all feilds. I just want to live in a small apartment w/internet by myself for the rest of my life. So I'm here, because I can't find one thing telling me how I can do this. I'm not looking for a fancy apartment and have money to blow on useless shit. I just want to be able to pay rent, internet, and small amounts of food. I need advice.

You just need to stop being a lazy butt, NEET life has a limit, that limit is called reality.

Everyone gets to the point in their lives where they have to put effort to get something.

It's simple, everything has a cost, you want to recieve everything, and give nothing, that's all.

4chan was the entirety of my online involvement for countless years, primarily /a/. I decided to head off in my own direction when I saw the place really going to the dogs. Though no matter how long I'm away from it, my time there will always be an influence on who I am and what I do online.

Now I just lurk around hard to find hole-in-the wall chans and IRC's. The quieter and more out of the way they are the better, there's a real charm to these little lost corners of the web. I'm less involved online as a whole, so I'm content to just explore the back-alleys.

You're probably just starting to build a tolerance man. I would recommend quitting now rather than later. Or get an e-cig, but I don't know much about those so I can't help you there.

I have anxiety but I never understood how smoking calms people down. In fact, if I haven't smoked in a couple days and then I do, the nicotine actually makes me feel really uneasy. The only time I've found smoking is useful for that sort of thing, for me, is when I'm talking to someone. It gives me something to do with my hands (does anybody else randomly become hyper-aware of their hands when talking to someone? Like what the fuck are you supposed to do with them?!).

Totally, you can always play with your cellphone if you dont have a cig, check messages or just fuck around.
Not only that but also you have something to do at all which seems to be more or less common rather than having akward silence is another factor.

I found it to be calming actually, but it can excite me a bit aswell.
Perhaps it can have different affect on different people.

Well you guys probably know but smoking cigs against anxiety is a bad idea, you should find yourself some other drugs for that.

I honestly hate it when people play with their phones in the middle of a conversation. I never stopped to think, though, that they might just be hyper-aware of their hands and/or feeling nervous instead of trying to ignore me (though when it comes down to it that is what they are doing in a way).

>>12225
I third that one. Its literally one of the biggest contributing factors of why I smoke. Its a conversation piece and also a reason to step out when at a rave or in a club and chat with someone.

>>12210
I think this is the real correct answer here.

 No.12258

Nicotine is an addictive stimulant. I've smoked for ten years and admit that the repetitive ritual of lighting up is comforting, but there's nothing innately anxiolytic about tobacco products. If you're looking for a casual social lubricant, I'd recommend weed or light drinking. If you're in an academic or career setting, you can try to squeeze some beta-blockers or benzodiazepines out of a doctor.

I'd recommend switching to an e-cig as quickly as possible. Cigarettes are very, very expensive in the long-term.

 No.12259

I was wondering if there's any NEETs who have physical illnesses that have contributed to them being unable to go outside or function?
I have a lot of chronic pain/nausea, a practically non-functional digestive system, and other things, which make it almost impossible for me to go outside. It also makes eating and sleeping very difficult, so, I was wondering if there's someone like me?
If there is, do any of you go outside for treatment? I need to leave the house for things like IVs, and doctor's appointments, but a lot of the time I can't.

 No.12257

I don't suffer from serious physical illnesses that impair my ability to function.

(Falling asleep is hard, but that's because I anesthetize my thoughts constantly by spending every day surfing the web, with little to no time for honest introspection during the day, so that's all my fault.)

What are your guy's sleep schedules like? Mine has gotten entirely out of control; I try to set my alarm for like 2-3pm and I still usually end up turning it off and sleeping until 4 (which is still uncomfortable, I could easily sleep until 5-6pm if I wanted). I'm in in endless cycle of not wanting to wake up and not wanting to sleep. The worst part is the sun comes up wayyy too early this time of year so I'm pretty much forced to call it a night around 6am. Winter can't come soon enough.

I used to not be able to sleep unless I took melatonin but it hardly ever works anymore. Last night I took 25 or 50mg of quetiapine which is my "last resort" (can't remember what dosage the pills I have are but it was one or the other, and I only took one pill) because it makes me so tired I wake up the next day still feeling like I haven't slept enough.

I think my uncle made some internet friends because he's been yelling shit like "ITS EYE IS ITS WEAKNESS" ever since I woke up and its almost 5am now. The late night/early morning used to be my sanctuary, but nothing is sacred anymore, apparently.

It's gotten to be a struggle to wake up by 4:30 fucking pm, which is when my grandma gets home from work. I always get up before then during the weekdays because she says she hates it when she gets home and I'm still asleep. I don't know why she hates it but I try to give her what I can because she puts up with my NEET ways.

When I don't have artificial time constraints placed upon me, my sleep schedule stabilizes at 1-2 AM to 9-10 AM. This is mainly because essentially all of my friends stay up late, but are busy (or asleep) during the day, so late evening is prime time with regards to chatting with everyone.

Regrettably, I have to wake up at 7:10 AM each morning during the week. I tend to go to sleep at any time between 11 PM and 1 AM, depending upon how involved I am with whatever I'm doing prior to turning in. I have a mounting sleep debt consequently, but with free time being such a scarcity, it's difficult to motivate myself to burn it up with sleep.

>I'm in in endless cycle of not wanting to wake up and not wanting to sleep.

You and me both.

 No.12244

Mine varies way too heavily. I've tried sleeping pills and melatonin, all of them basically just turn me into a zombie but I still can't sleep after taking them.
Usually the longest I stay up at a time is 48 hours, but sometimes I get tired and go back to sleep just 3 hours after getting up. It doesn't help that I wake up constantly when I do sleep. Weird dreams too.

Any NEETs here without there driving license? I'm 19 and I don't have mine. I've had some pretty bad experiences on the road. Not with driving but more with the people who were in the car with me.

>First time I went driving my older brother yelled and even hit me.

>Said bad things to constantly put me down.
>Tried driving with my dad but that just ended in more negative feedback
>Tried with a driving instructor and still more negative feedback.

I didn't think I was a bad driver but 'they' kept picking on stuff and it slowly took away my confidence.

Now I avoid driving at all costs because of all the bad experiences I've had.

That isn't good either where I live since everyone sees a driving license as a rite of passage….
Anyway I will stop rambling now.

You're welcome!

Also I forgot one thing.

When I showed up to get my permit, I had to bring certain documents with me to verify my citizenship status. I know my social security card was included, but I can't remember the others. They should be listed on the DMV's website though.

 No.11863

I have mine (nearly 10 years now), but I hate driving. Driving a car is enjoyable, but constantly paying attention to traffic is not. The roads are crowded here and people drive aggressively. I also hate trying to find a parking spot, there are never enough of them. I've been to the USA and I was surprised how relaxed the drivers were, even in large cities.

I could probably survive without a car for my entire life anyway, since you can go anywhere by bicycle and public transportation here. I don't plan to get a car unless absolutely necessary (and of course if I have the money for it).

I still remember crying during driving lessons because I was so stressed about it…

Lucky! Well, I'm sure there are ups and downs to living in a city that is populated enough to have enough public transportation to get by. Driving isn't very important to me; I'd rather just wait until self-driving cars are standard and/or move to a city that has enough public transportation to get by.

I really should get my license though…
