Short exploration game sort of in the vein of Yume Nikki/LSD Dream Emulator. Posting it here as it might be of Uboachan interest, as well as I could really use player feedback at this point. For instance, I'm on the fence about whether or not to include an ending/"Find 21 items then you win" mechanics, think they would help? Beta version uploaded here: http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=31732.0.

Notes: Really long load time (Up to 1 minute) due to Unity's weird large mesh support. Just wait it out.

So I played it for a while.
It's interesting, the shapes are intriguing, I liked looking around and seeing what you did a lot.
THe lights are well placed, the ambience goes with it nicely.

The one thing I disliked though was the clunky jumping/really slow aircontrols. I take it that its supposed to be kind of floaty-underwaterish? It felt weird though, especcially since this makes it really tedious to gain back altitude after you dived down.

All in all it looks like it could go somewhere good, imo if you fix the controls some sort of "find all items" could be nice. It'd give more incentive to really look around and see everything, maybe a hidden area here or there.

(p.s. the rotating structure around it looks amazing, misses a hitbox though)

 No.2052

gonna try this tomorrow

 No.2063

Thanks, a few people mentioned the jumping issue, and I've hopefully smoothed that out in the final version I released a couple of days ago: http://www.noctuelles.info/Cesure. Feedback is still welcome though, I'm going to make more of these short experiments, and I'll expand on the area's people found most interesting.

Wow, it's hard to believe the old (archived) Umihara thread is over two years old. I've come a long way since then…

Is Schuld that bad? I haven't played it yet, though I've played Desert Nightmare, which is by the same author. I thought Desert Nightmare was a decent game, though nothing amazing.

As for the list itself, I think it's alright, though I get the feeling they probably didn't do a whole lot of research in making the list. I kind of wonder how they defined "games of 2013", since most of these were made in 2012 or earlier, but only got an English translation or post-completion version update in 2013, and some, like Yume Nikki didn't even get that. Of that list, only Skinwalker, Mad Father and maybe The Crooked Man (can't find a Japanese release date for that one) were made in 2013.

Perhaps it would've been better to make it a "Best RPG Maker Horror Games" list; I know I'd have liked to see Corpse Party, Lisa, or OFF on that list, though none of those were made in 2013 either.

 No.2183

It's not BAD bad, but the climax and ending are awful. It sort of ruined the game for me, to be honest.

 No.2184

Same here, I liked the game but the ending is balls…

 No.2243

Its a list of rpg maker horror games, can there really be enough competition to boot Yume Nikki out anyway?

 No.2244

The list is pretty pointless and silly.

Lists the only few known RPG maker horror games, and it's pretty bad when you have to put One Night Full Circle (God, that game was bad) and Schuld there.

Do people really think Yume Nikki is a horror game?

Sure it's strange and unnerving at times, but I don't think it was going for the horror genre, more like surreal or psychedelic.

Hello Uboa-chan.

I just had the thought, while watching Yojimbo, to share with you my ongoing RPG Maker 2000 project, as a couple [?] of people who have seen it have commented that it was "YN-like"…I never knew what this statement meant, but in learning about Yume Nikki recently, and playing a bit of it, I think you may appreciate the dark currents and sometimes sprawling/looping maps which make up my CLASSIC GAME ascii-horror-roleplaying scenario:

http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLEMzDTxhgS0_KeO8hxBmVsY7oeSk8Wzg_

This is music, images, and gameplay footage.

It is text-heavy, but I usually speed past text prompts in videos I take, for time's sake, if my camera can even pick it up.

Beautiful…. really interesting.
I want to try it out.
When do you think you will be able to post a download link?

 No.2192

>>2188

This is a question I have asked myself many times. I have it broken into 3 Acts on paper (like Doom, or Commander Keen, or something), and have finished about 75% of the first one in playable game.

I felt that I could either [A] totally finish the first "Act", and put that up somewhere || [B] make a current-state download of it "incomplete/as-is", || [C] make a new demo-sized zone to run around in…but I've never come to a conclusion.

If I had to choose, I'd probably go with [B], but there would be blatant dead ends.

Who here has played Cosmology of Kyoto?

It's an adventure game where you explore a circa 900 AD Kyoto, and witness all kind of fucked up stuff. I don't wanna go into any detail and risk spoiling, but game is weeeird. And I don't think there are any endings, I mean you're not given any objectives or anything… it's just walk around, talk to people.

Fuuuu. So, basically it probably won't work out?

 No.2172

>>2168

Well, first off, there shouldn't be any issues with Japanese file paths since the game has an official English release, so if you downloaded the Japanese version, that may be your main problem.

If you have a 64-bit OS though, then you'll likely have to do more to get it working; if that's the case, try downloading this, then following the instructions in the readme:

https://twitter.com/jennatar/statuses/219127484900327425

Since it's essentially running the game through Windows 3.1 and DOSBox, I think this would work for 32-bit OSes as well, but it's probably overkill. Still though, may wanna try it if you're having trouble running the game.

Yeah, I found multiple glitches as well, though that one there's more amusing than the few I found; most were just things like walkable tiles that should've been solid.

The picture's the one of the more interesting ones I came across (has an end-game spoiler in a sense, though)

Basically, during the segment in which you control Paul, you can freely backtrack and examine the entire building even after Marion heads back. Seems the creator never took that into account, so stuff like what's in the pic can happen.

All in all, the game was still fairly enjoyable though, and none of the glitches I found seemed to be game-breaking.

 No.2149

>>2147

There are two possibilities:

1. You haven't hit him enough. The crooked man takes a good deal of hits before he goes down. It takes a total of 10 shots, if I remember correctly.

2. You've encountered a glitch. Did you open your inventory at all during the fight? Cause I noticed that the gun can fire as you're pushing keys within the menu, and if you shoot him enough times while the menu's up, it'll glitch the fight, and make it impossible to win.

 No.2150

Am I the only one who thought the ending was kinda lame? I was expecting smething completely different.
Also, what are the changes between the first and second playthroughs? I'm too lazy to play again.

I've had the Crooked Man's HP glitch out during the fight with him in the hotel too. I don't think the action sequences (fights) are programmed extremely well. I've also shot Fluffy through the Crooked Man.

Instead of finding the corpse of Duke Mcwhatever in his house, you actually meet him and talk. That's pretty much all.

Basically it's a puzzle game with fun dialogue, nice music, and cute characters.

There are… Five episodes in the first game, I think?

The whole plot is basically Mackenzie trying to solve each of the five cases she will have in order to be accepted into the Great Detective Society.
