Now this is not quite a game, it is a chat client from 1994 similar to Second Life. It is one of the very first 3D chat clients out there and surprisingly, the servers are still up.
It recently got a lot of attention for it's out dated graphics, eerie music, strange worlds and most of all, very weird regulars who have been online for years, organizing events and contest as if nothing happened despite the client being almost deserted.

I made a thing.
Not very long or difficult, more of a test and made to kill some time. Should be easy to finish in about 10 minutes.
It's called Orpheus.

Your name is Dan, and you will bring your beloved Lily back.

It's my first game, and it's not a big deal but I thought I should share it anyway.

I… don't know man. It was like everyone's first game.

But keep going, you could do great things later if you practice storytelling and all. The whole game was so bare and simple that I couldn't even "feel" it.

But hey, it was made by yourself and had wise solutions like the lighting in the cave. I won't say that the ending was unexpected or that I enjoyed it that much but seriously keep going. If you haven't had the potential I would have stopped playing it in like the first two minutes.

 No.2056

Neat story. The whole thing is a bit too minimalist for my tastes, though. Also, the narration and storytelling, like that other Anon said, could be better.

I'm sure you all have played "You Have To Burn The Rope" by Marzapan. If you haven't, take two minutes out of your day and click this link: http://www.kongregate.com/games/Mazapan/you-have-to-burn-the-rope.

A lot of people complain about You Have To Burn The Rope for being too short or too simple of an experience. It really is simplistic, and according to the creator, it is meant to be. While that is true, there is a possible interpretation of the game that might make you look at it in a different light and perhaps give you more enjoyment out of its 2 minute-long playtime. That alternative interpretation is as follows:

You Have To Burn The Rope is about a video game hell.

Or, at the very least it is about a cyclical, Sisyphean game with images and themes of torture, descent, the occult, and repetition.

Note: You don't have to believe, or even like everything in this interpretation, but it does make the game a lot more interesting.

TL;DR - You Have To Burn The Rope alternate analysis

I was just skimming through this post before bed. The use of a bowler may be an homage to A Clockwork Orange. Kubrick's work has a lot of occult symbolism, and Kubrick himself was interested in conspiracy theories and such. Nothing major like lizard people blah blah blah, but he did use some cool stuff.

Not sure if that character is supposed to have one eye bigger than the other, or if it's just weird perspective. But it does remind me of Alex.

Good catch! You actually may be on to something. Perhaps the bowler hat is a reference to the mindless violence that Alex from A Clockwork Orange is known for. That would feed in to him being in hell, as well the idea of your main character in YHTBTR being a souless husk.

It may be a coincidence but A Clockwork Orange has a lot of themes in common that would be interesting to people who lived through criticism about violence in videogames in general.

I've recently been playing Anodyne. It's a fantastic zeldalike which appears to draw some amount of inspiration from Yume Nikki.

When I read about it I decided to purchase it immediately. I think it was about $8. It's on torrents too though, if you're cheap.

Like Yume Nikki, the game is in parts very disturbing, though I won't give away spoilers.

It's also full of talking NPCs, unlike Yume Nikki, and a good lot of quirky humor.

As a zeldalike, it has dungeons, but the primary focus appears to be on the many, many, MANY unique worlds, which are sometimes connected to each other in odd ways (though normally just through walking around.)

hey. I created this game like few months ago, i released it on a forum, it was liked. I released it on my facebook, my friend liked it.

I kinda want to show it to you guys from ubuu, cause i love ubuu.

It's not an rpg maker game, it's not an esoteric game (except if you can get the subtext.)

It's an action game that mixes platforming with brick breaker. Also it has lots of tits and beards.

Hope you'll like it, ubuu! even tough it's full of bug.

so,I saw some talk about second life from the Worlds.com thread and I dont see a SL Thread - and i dont know where else to put this so here it is.
I talked to my french friend about Yume Nikki whom is on Second Life. After a few months of not speaking to him alot I decided to check his store and, well: look at these.
I think I converted him.
Anywho, this is what I'd like to say:
-Like the items? Go find them in his marketplace at https://marketplace.secondlife.com/stores/2100 . Most things will be under $1 US dollar,so its not too much.
-Be sure if you wanna write a review, don't be an asshole. Be fair about it. If you don't say why something is bad we can't improve on it.
-Yes,we know about Monoko's shirt. The thing is the way the switch work cant switch the shirt texture unless you use something like RLV viewer.
-Yes, we know Monoe's is horrid. She was a first attempt and is why shes damn-near-free. ($L1)
-He's a furry. Thats Second Life for you. That should be expected by now.
-Helping him with stuff like feedback and supporting this project can help get more things, like: Masada,16 more effects for Madotsuki, Urotsuki,Sabitsuki, and more. Maybe even a YN Sim in the future.
and finally,
-Mods,if you find a better place for this thread: By all means, place it where-ever. I only put it in /og/ because its Second Life and not a "true" YN Fangame. More of a YN Fanclub thing..but its not off-topic either, so I had no idea where it goes.

I'm putting together a youtube based vlog/podcast kind of a thing dedicated entirely to indie games. My team and I will be both lets playing and having shows about the larger titles and tiny unheard of RPGmaker games. We'll be reviewing, analyzing, and interviewing devs and people who are in the community.

So if you're an indie dev, semi-known LPer who dabbled or dedicates their channel to indie games, OR you've contributed large things to the indie gaming community, we need YOU!

We also are open to suggestions of indie games and things to discuss.

If you are interested, add me on skype or steam at:
bleepbloopbleep

The project is still in the developing stages but we already have some devs lined up and are configuring the format of the show.

Cat Planet is always related.

DL: http://www.freem.ne.jp/win/game/1259

It's the game that led me to this vomitive shithole in the first place. Well LSD: DE came first but then it led me to this, then came YN.
The whole story that led me to YN was a very isolated one and something that was always very important to me, so I must attribute some of where I stand today to Soup.
I was reminded of it when I finally got my girlfriend to play YN today and recounted my tale of finding it through this game.
I was never able to find a download for this because I could only search for "Soup" and of course that wouldn't yield any results.
Recently I put a little more effort into finding it once remembering about this game and was able to finally find its download through the version number.

There is still a working link to it in the old list of games thread in archived /og/. If you like these sort of games check out as many titles in that thread as you can.

 No.1678

there are people on the MegaGwolf stream and forums that are working on the "soup project", those guys made a fully customisable SOup engine with no coding, you just need to drop pics, and they play your game on stram and youtube, you should check it out, it gives a new live to this small fun game :)

I played the hell out of this game back in the day. It was hard but it was also just fun to screw around and make ridiculous roller coasters that would have your guests sick and crazy.

More intriguingly was the fact the guy wrote it almost entirely MASM/assembly language which was very rare for a game of that era. http://www.chrissawyergames.com/faq3.htm

I kind of want to play it now.
