Helloachan!

I am working on a new game engine using PyGame for graphical point-and-click adventure games, a-la Myst. Currently I have a PreAlpha I made in about 10 hours that is functional enough for a simple walk-around-and-look-at-things game. Planned features include music and sound, scripting, save files, inventory, FMV support, and a simple battle system.

The engine is called BXEngine, and the showcase game is Backrooms Explorer. I haven't taken my own photos yet so I grabbed them from various places for testing; they will be replaced. Currently there are only four rooms to look at in the demo, but the file formats are extremely simple and it should be easy for anyone who wants to play with it to make their own walkaround at this point.

To play the game, move your mouse around the screen to look for indicators. If your mouse is near an available exit (center or edges of the screen), a navigation indicator will appear. If you mouse over something you can interact with, an action indicator will appear. If more than one indicator icon appears, left click performs the top action and right click performs the bottom action.

I will post updates here as I add new features.

tl;dr I made an adventure game engine that is functional enough to play with a bit.

Go out of the play area, you have unlimited jumps. Ignore the red warning text.

If you like Yume Nikki (and xkcd), you're gonna love this. I did.
No music though.

and yes I am well aware it came out years ago. but it's still cool

P.S. there's a super long page with all the goodies about it, including some cheats if you're lost/bored https://www.explainxkcd.com/wiki/index.php/1608:_Hoverboard

A game about a kid and the monster under his bed.

"Bedtime is supposed to be a happy event for a tired child; for this child it was terrifying. While some children might complain about being put to bed before they have finished watching a film or playing their favourite video game, when he was a child, night time was something to truly fear."

The game, like many of my horror games, tries to scare you without too many of the typical "screamers", instead relying on atmosphere and suspense.

Neat game, the first maze level had me shitting bricks.

I absolutely loved the sprites in some of the later stages. Was there a bit of lovecraftian influence?

I've read all of H.P. Lovecrafts works, so I can't really say no, even though I wasn't actively thinking about it during development.

I've played chess ever since I was a kid and i'm addicted to playing online games. Recently I wondered why there wasn't so many asian players and unsuccessfully tried to find an active nip chess server. I did a bit of digging and learned about Shogi. I now know the basic rules and i'm interested in getting more deeply into it, but I can't find a good strategy guide online. Could somebody point me in the right direction?

Not many people around, I tried getting people to play mahjong but nobody replied either.
I'm quite busy right now but I've been wanting to give shougi a try, so I may pop one of these days.

I saw your thread. I wasn't interested because it was completely unfamiliar to me and is usually played by 4 people. What made you get into that first?

Free time, and interest in learning how to play a game that involved some luck besides strategy. Poker and the like lack taste and feel like you rely way too much on luck, while mahjong involved enough strategy as well as luck. It also helped I had some mahjong games lying around, so it was just bound to happen.
I could have gone with chess or something too, but since I'm a weeb I thought I may as well learn weeb games.

http://ken1shogi.sakura.ne.jp/shogi/shogi.html
The site always includes some other stuff. For practice problems, select, 詰将棋, in the settings. Piyoshogi is the best free app you can get, and that has thirty levels.

I'd recommend google for starters.

"afraid of monsters download" already granted results.

But seeing as "Cry of Fear" (the second mod of the same maker) is offered on steam, perhaps it's on steam too.

 No.1956

I was really surprised to learn that Afraid of Monsters was not only made by one guy, but that the was a kid when he made it. It's a damn fine game, though. Relies a bit too much on jump scares, but it's a very solid horror game.

Now, it's spiritual sequel, Cry of Fear (also made by the same guy, albeit with a full team) is scarier, more atmospheric, and all around much better.

Check out anything by Chilla's Art on Steam. Small / short first person Japanese horror games with a "vhs" vibe. Most of them can be finished in like 90 minutes but usually have hidden endings or alternate choices to make, so you get multiple playthroughs out of them.

Well lately i've been giving them a try and it appears that i'm not that good (Three year-almost Four-year investment) I think they're pretty good but playing online can be a bit of a headache. Having people call you free (Slang for being easy to beat) whenever my friends or other people that usually talking to about this stuff makes it seem that if you're bad at fighting then you have a lower intellect in general. With things such as mind-games, Reading, & Execution as well. so what are you opinions regarding this?

I have 2 friends that totally own me in their genre, one in fps games and other in fighting games, but when it comes to puzzles i rarely use a guide and they get stuck a lot with puzzles.
but they still play adventure/puzzle games, and i enjoy the occasional match with them, point is, just enjoy what you want.
now for competitive fighting…i…just practice, i guess?

Other Mo' Creatures shenanigans:
>another cat I wanted to tame falls into water and drowns while I'm in my inventory screen

>found and tamed a lion cub (called it Leim), was leading it around while riding a horse, noticed too late that Leim had stopped following because I was going too fast

>built a makeshift birdcage in my home, filled it with one of every bird except crow and dove, throw seeds inside the cage to feed them, they all clip into the ceiling and die instantly

>build a tower, put a tamed kitty (pictured) in the top floor bedroom that has slit windows, give it a yarnball to play with while I'm gone

>come back later, yarnball is laying outside at the foot of the tower and the cat is nowhere in sight
>later find the cat had clipped into the bed instead of swandiving out the tower window like I'd thought

posting this in /og/ because even if its mc it has nothing to do with the cute little server you got goin on

So, let's have a nice custom map thread. I myself am looking for big maps that are just eyecandy with astounding design and amazing builds. I have a few suggestions, one or two involve puzzles.

>Lumina Nocturnale the Underwater City

one thats just nice to look at. fun to explore for a while, and trying out different texture packs is quite interesting. not much to actually do though.

>The Tourist

a really good custom map. comes with a texture pack, and its got puzzles. best in single player.

I also played one called Enigma Island but I won't really include it because it was more for puzzles than it was eyecandy, and I want this to be mostly an eyecandy thread.

picture kinda unrelated, its just minecraft and its pretty great.
