Another really nice looking side scrolling story game. Dat natural minor scale.
Moonspeak warning. Several groups have worked on translations but as far as I know no one has finished. Still worth a look.
Here's the dedicated wiki. All the games in the series can be found here.http://www39.atwiki.jp/ta0rukettow0mouitid0/

The Majesty of Colors>Point and click-ish
TENTACLE MONSTER!!!! There are multiple endings.
You gotta play it for yourself.

Three university students out on a camping trip and some puzzles. That's it. I swear.
Imscared - A Pixelated Nightmare>First Person Horror
"I need a Heart in order to open it"
It's something that really should be experienced for yourself, so no video.
Ao Oni>Adventure, Puzzle, RUN NIGGA
You enter a haunted house with a group of friends. Nothing goes wrong.
Sorry but it's impossible to find footage of the game from a non scare cam using screaming asshole. Fuck pewdiepie.
So then add it you butt.
Mad Father>Adventure, exploration
A story about a girl who lives with her father who does questionable work as a scientist.
I just started playing it today. It's pretty good.
There's another game by the same person who made Mad Father, called Misao. You can get it from vgboy's site as well.
Cool. I'll try it and if I like it add it. Unless someone beats me to it. You're more than welcome to add whatever you wish to this list.
Well, I think vgboy's description says it best:
This game contains grotesque imagery and depicts violence, murder, bullying, and sexual assault.
Be warned that there are also many scenes in which characters do and say unpleasant things.
Playing this game is strictly forbidden for those unable to make a clear distinction between reality and fantasy.
The graphics are crappier because it's Sen's first game. Has a story that is almost certainly inspired by Corpse Party. Also has a connection to Mad Father's special 21-gem-collected ending, for all you MF players out there.
PS: You will die. You will die a lot.
The fucking phone kills you.
Your classmate gets chopped up by a guy with a chainsaw while you hide inside a god damn corpse right next to her, but the PHONE KILLS YOU.
Oops, I fucked up the spoiler…
Penpals is a game about finding your mom, accompanied by your abusive friend called Pal. Roaming the towns called Onion Town, and Understanding. There are some ghosts.
Playing this game is strictly forbidden for those unable to make a clear distinction between reality and fantasy.
Is this going to replace seizure warnings in games so people don't sue game companies when shootings happen?

Clock of Atonement>Puzzle

Just play it, it's pretty short
Surgeon Simulator 2013>Uhh first-person medical simulation?
QWOP-like game that puts you in the shoe of a heart transplant surgeon. Hilarity ensues.
Desert Nightmare>Puzzle, Adventure
A girl stranded in a city. She realizes there's something wrong with the city.
No decent footage other than some guy's LP.
Pretty similar to Desert Nightmare above. Schuld is about a man who finds himself in a dying world, without knowing how he got there and why he is there.
Explore random generated levels. Whip enemies. Loot trasures. Avoid traps. Rescue damsel in distress.
Shrink High>RPG with wtf elements
A pretty normal JRPG until the shrinking shenanigan begins. NSFW. Can be pretty disturbing.
RPG similar to Suikoden series.
Okay here's the last from me. Keep contributing folks!
Recently translated by vgboy, so I guess this one deserves a mention. I haven't play it yet though.

Gravity Bone>First Person Adventure Game
Gravity Bone is a first-person adventure video game set in the fictional city of Nuevos Aires. The player controls a spy, and is tasked with accomplishing several missions across the game's two stages.
The Strange and Somewhat Sinister Tale of the House at Desert Bridge>Point and Click
An intelligently written point and click adventure about the value of relationships and imagination. I think. Awesome soundtrack also.
Plus there are three other games which take place in this one's universe:http://www.kongregate.com/games/JonasKyratzes/the-book-of-living-magichttp://www.kongregate.com/games/JonasKyratzes/the-fabulous-screechhttp://landsofdream.net/games/the-sea-will-claim-everything/

Will You Ever Return>Exploration/Adventure
One day you get mugged and killed walking home. Find a way to escape hell and and say goodbye to your sweetie. Funny and surreal with hand-made claymation art
The King of the Wood>Short FPS/exploration type game

Check out Good morning commander for more: http://alllen.tumblr.com/post/35116399775/good-morning-commander
This one has you exploring a moon base on your own
The font of the text in that game looks like some type of language the Mesopotamians ditched in favor of something they could actually read.
Ah, I was playing that a few days ago, it's really fun and cute! And if you play long enough, it does cool trippy things to your eyes
Legend of Princess> Platformer
Zelda fangame, basically.
"Chalk is all about drawing your way to all the glory! Draw lines across shapes to destroy them, turn back bullets at enemies and thwart huge boss enemies by bouncing stuff back in their faces!"
Game name: Iji
Description: Action platformer with compelling story and lots of replay value.
Zineth. It's a free platformer/robot skating game. It feels a lot like Jet Set Radio Future in some aspects.http://arcanekids.com/
WHY IS THIS SO HARD WHY AM I HAVING SO MUCH TROUBLE WITH THIS oh wait I don't actually need to battle, do I?
git gud scrub
No, you actually do. Level up as much as possible. I thought I had enough and now as a result I still can't beat the game. Pissed about it.
Well damn. I just don't go into these sorts of games with the expectation of having to grind.
It's actually not so much grinding as it is having a steep difficultly curve in the beginning. Half way through the game I started to avoid as much conflict as I could and I was able to beat the game without too much problem. I never felt that I needed to grind, I'd either die horrifyingly in a matter of seconds or win.
The game almost needs to come with a warning about that though
Halloween Flop> Adventure, RPG
Cute game where you save Halloween.
It's made with Rpgmaker VX ACE.
The Crooked Man> Horror, Puzzle
"David Hoover decides to move into a new apartment during a rough time in his life.

Tanaka’s Friendly Adventure>Exploration
Tanaka’s Friendly Adventure is a game about finding friends to go to your party. I think there's 72 friends you can find.
Sonic Robot Blast 2>>3d platformer
The fastest Sanic game ever and the best too. It unlike the modern titles places emphasis on exploration of the levels like S3&K and CD did. It also espouses the homing dash as well, but I'll be honest it's largely useless at times unless you're speed running. The soundtrack is absolutely superb and very chill. Made on the Doom engine and highly modable as well meaning most toasters out there can play it no problems.
Note: If you're going to use a controller make sure analog control is off. I honestly think the game is played best with a controller. Unlocking Super Sonic is a bitch and takes lots of practice.
Literally what it says there a survival game, no horror in it
There's really no good LPs of the vanilla game or footage since it's just people clowning around or doing the campaign. But I can describe it to you briefly.
>>Two game modes, one campaign, one randomly generated island map>>In random game mode you start off with zero supplies, you're starving hungry and dying>>You have to search for your food and water you're not told where it is>>You have to make your own tools using the environment
If this is too easy for you, or not interactive enough for you after enough playthroughs do not worry. That's what the Massive Mod is for!http://www.unrealsoftware.de/forum_posts.php?post=337277
Here's a link to a gameplay video of it. The guy has an annoying voice and it's on easy mode, but it gives you a good idea what the game with this mod is likehttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzyfSyWWiUo
Note: There's no graphics mods for this, it looks like shit at all times. If hard mode is not enough try Raptor Hunter, you will shit bricks.
A cute murder mystery game with ghosts, witches, and robots
A very hard platforming puzzle game.
Wow thanks for getting me addicted to this again, I hope you're happy with yourself
Killer Bear>horror parody
Short and cute game that takes place in a cliche slasher film.
There's a killer after you. Don't die.
Parasitic Joker (寄生ジョーカー Kisei Joker)>Adventure, Survival Horror
more or less Resident Evil in RPG Maker 2000; untranslated
Get to the bottom while a stupid fucking fish mocks you.
Due to the name being a pretty common word and sharing the name with other games, I can't fucking find the original download link, so i've uploaded it if thats not a problem. Put the exe in its own folder because it generates some extra files when it first runs.
Hold Down + Jump to do a high jump.http://www.mediafire.com/download/v502hnxacb0d5zn/
Its a SHMUP where every fight is a boss fight, however each time you kill him, he comes back and grows in a new way to counter you. Depending on how you destroy it, he grows in a different way. You can use this to your advantage or screw yourself as he adapts to your methods.http://www.hikware.com/Prod/index.html#wf
Guy actually has done a lot of little shmups here and there, try them all out. This one he even links to the english patch on the page, what a cool dude.
Okay what the hell is this about?
Fun puzzles btw.
I remember this game. Saw it on the Game Maker site when it was released, and a quick search brought me to the original thread and downloads:http://gmc.yoyogames.com/index.php?showtopic=417180
Oh, handy that. Thank you.
The Plan>short side-scroller
A beautiful, clever little game with an unspoken message. Live the life of a flying insect. It uses simple but profound imagery to leave the player awestruck. SPOILER: prepare to fly beyond the observable universe
Save the Date>visual novel
You and your girlfriend Felicia go out on a perfectly normal date.
There are about 15 bad endings and at least 2 'not bad' endings. It's kinda hard to explain, but this game goes really really REALLY meta as you keep on trying to Save your Date (and sometimes yourself) from dying horribly. You will use quicksaves and quickloads a lot.
Michael Brough of Smestorp has a lot of games. When you first try them, they are dense and hard to crack. But once you push on through, you see the genius of this guy.http://www.smestorp.com/
You should probably start with Corrypt, Game Title, or Zaga-33.
The only one I've played extensively is 86856527, which is being revamped and updated currently, to be released some time as "868-HACK". Part of the appeal of 86856527 is learning what everything means through use. So if you enjoy dense puzzles, and not reading instruction manuals or guides, check this out blind.
a game links with dream, just like Yume Nikki, you travel lots of dream world, finding new way to achieve another dreams and medals
Revive is a pixelated puzzle platformer in which you defy death, define life, and jump in puddles of syrup.
I masturbate to this game every now and then.
I thought I was the only one
Really? So did I. How does it make you feel and what do you think about and imagine? Have you tried playing it with a set of girly clothes and accessories and putting them on as you play?
I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR THIS FOR SO DAMN LONG THANK YOU
Originally intended to be part of a much larger commercial(?) game, the creator of Middens has just released his game Gingiva around ten minutes ago.
If Middens is anything to go by It is
this game should definitely be worth a try, especially for those of you that enjoy trippy and thought-provoking games.
So I played the game for around 3 hours and realized that it was exceedingly easy, at least at first. After taking a break I learned I "wasn't" supposed to be ridiculously over-levelled from the start. Apparently the creator had accidentally left in a high player level while testing it upon release. I'm not going to delete my file since I'm too attached but it's something to be aware of. Make sure to download the latest version which fixes this (not version 1.0)!
Other than that, I have thoroughly enjoyed the game so far. I wish I had written things down since the start of the game because there are numerous spelling errors I'm finding everywhere. The animations also need to see some fine tuning as well as the sprites.
But other than those early release issues, the music, humor, artwork, and story are top notch. It follows similar battle mechanics to Middens, being a turn based RPG with permanent death for NPCs that are fought. There are some important differences though, and I urge you all to try it out.
And to clarify:
You are not supposed to be level 30+ from the start of the game and I'm an idiot for not realizing that!
did the kickstarter fail?, is this game more interesting than Middens?, i got bored and never finished it
It's still Moments of Silence, but renamed and given different elements since he was working on another game that was basically the same, so he just combined them both to make Gingiva.
The reptile twins are still there, the space fish, the anatomy god, etc. but i believe their roles have changed somewhat.
I've been playing the game and it's pretty good. There's a problem though where it freezes and crashes when I level up, it's happened twice now. I have no idea how far I am.
"don't take it personally, babe,
it just ain't your story"
You play as a teacher who's able to creep on his students text messages, social network profiles, etc
By the way, sorry for not posting a gameplay video, my computer dies whenever I try to load a video. You can easily find one on Youtube though.
Mermaid Swamp>Horror, Puzzle
''Rin Yamazaki and her college friends have their car break down in the mountains on a trip.
Fortunately, a kindly old man offers to let them stay at his house.
But there's a legend about the swamp outside the mansion…''
similar to crooked man (made by same person)
> exploration with mild horror
Allen is a boy who has lost his memory.
Bereaved of his parents, he comes to a certain facility.
One day, he goes to investigate an odd rumor, and…
There is a Picture
"A cosmonaut in his spaceship wants to create a brand new planet. He'll have to trade with people and stuff."
It's a very short game made by Mordis Ghost (aka the guy who made OFF)
Pokemon Fusion Generation
> Pokemon RPG
"Some time after the events of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, Brendan and May have traveled from Hoenn to the Kanto region looking for a new challenge. One of them remains the Champion of Hoenn and seeks to become the Champion of Kanto as well. Both of them leave behind their old Pokémon and begin anew in Pallet Town. Soon they encounter Bill and learn of his new invention: Pokémon Fusions. Throughout the game, Bill struggles with the consequences of his work and the player must battle the Gym Leaders of Kanto and their Pokémon Fusions, as well as those who want to use Pokémon Fusions for evil."
Rust and Blood
> Exploration, survival horror
"Survival horror where you need to gather food and supplies at day while making sure you have enough time to get back to your hideout before night comes. Set in a nightmarish factory world."
Gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdz6KVJnzqsI wasn't sure where this would best be put as it wasn't on the board already and Owl doesn't really have a thread outside their one for Reap and Sow. There is one for Siris' Inferno but that game is now dead perminantly from what I've heard.
The White Chamber
> Point and Click, puzzle, horror
"A young girl wakes to find herself inside a strange glowing coffin, in a dark room. Who is she? What is this place? Why is she here? As she explores the warped environment she finds herself trapped within, she must search for answers, all of which will lead her closer and closer to the white chamber and the truth it holds."
RPG with very interesting battle mechanics, and a moral system that matters. Please experience this game for yourself.
Download the demo (full game isn't out yet):http://undertale.com/
Really, play it for yourself.
Mr. Red's Adventure - The Missing Balls>Platformer
You're an adorable puppet looking for Christmas ornaments for your tree. Kill gnomes, hit snowmen, push blocks, and fight the boss.
I'm Scared of Girls>Exploration, some combat
You are a recently deceased soul wandering the underworld. You have to confront memories of your earthly life and cut your ties to them in order to move on.
Gameplay: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Xac_2HX-c0just going through /og/ and adding misc games to this thread as I like to use it as a catch-all recommendation thread. Also description was taken from annon here >>2712
The Mirror Lied>exploration, puzzle
It's kinda hard to explain. It's buy the people who made To the Moon. It's pretty short though
CCLE is about a 16 year old girl called Azul, in a world where the humanity reached the limit of it's own corruption and evil, a divine entity determined that humans are evil, so it called for it's annihilation and the world turned into a nightmare…
Besides the fact that there's no sound on this video it's also of an older version but you get the idea

All 5 games can be found this the location
Just one of many, you get the idea
SCP: Containment Breach>Survival horror
Based on the stories of The SCP Foundation, you work within the foundation and shit went down
To my current knowledge it's still being updated
Collect pages, don't get caught
No gameplay video on this one, you probably already know how it plays also it's probably nigh impossible to find anyway without talking and this game is best played alone
"You, the player, play the character of a longtime friend of Grace and Trip, an attractive and materially successful couple in their early thirties. During an evening get-together at their apartment that quickly turns ugly, you become entangled in the high-conflict dissolution of Grace and Trip’s marriage."
Nothing Else>Side scroller, puzzle
Short and kinda strange, there's not much of a way to explain it
Also bless you for contributing so much.
Jurassic Heart>Visual Novel
You're off on an afternoon to buy a new ukulele with your dino friend Taira-Kun. Your choices affect the ending you get (there are 3 endings). It's a pretty short game.

I know it isn't free, but it's worth the 5 bucks.
Started playing this game an hour ago and it seems really interesting so far. Thanks for the rec.
Super hard action adventure platformer. You start with a whip and not much else. Good luck.
This game has a Steam remake that improves the game. You should buy it.
Patchwork>Point and Click, puzzle
Daniel, a scientist, has just completed his time travel machine and while testing it out is thrown into a medieval fantasy where magic is real. He then has to work with a young student mage in order to get him back to his time.
I just saw it yesterday. So much hype. They seem really in touch with their fanbase.
Hmmm I'm surprised nobody posted any of Yatzee's games. Though admittedly I've just gotten around to playing them myself and am only 2 games in at the current moment. I'll play his other ones after I finish the DeFoe series
The John DeFoe Series> Point and Click, murder mystery
There are 4 games in this series meant to be played in the order listed that all center around an entity named John DeFoe and the mysteries surrounding him.
5 Days A Stranger: http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/5days/
7 Days A Skeptic: http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/7days/
Trilby's Notes: http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/notes/
6 Days A Sacrifice: http://www.fullyramblomatic.com/6days/
All of the games should have similar gameplay and walkthroughs are included on each game's page. Also some of the download links don't work but the mirrors do.
Slight clarification now that I've started to play the 3rd game (Tribly's Notes), that game and only that one is an old school text style adventure. That one and the one after it don't have walkthroughs like I assumed (due to the first two having them) either.
A really cute game where you are a sphere and have to navigate your surroundings to get to the next area. Another game by the Knytt people
Download (demo): http://nifflas.ni2.se/?page=NightSky
You can also buy it on steam (and the Nintendo eshop). The demo comes with the tutorial and the first 4 of 10 levels.
Love these games. Trilby's Notes scared me more than any other game has scared me
See You On The Other Sidehttp://gustavdahl.net/see-you-on-the-other-side/>>3243
NightSky rules. Nifflas is a cool guy.>>3139
I've been wanting this.
Dreaming Mary>Exploration, side scroller with some puzzles and mild horror
There once was a young girl called Mary who loved to dream. She made up amazing stories and explored fantastical worlds. She could do anything in her dreams, and she loved to dream so much she never wanted to wake up. After all, reality is boring and so scary. When you live a life like that, wouldn't you want to fall into your dreams?
This game is short (10 minutes if you know what you're doing) but requires multiple playthroughs to get everything.
Wadanohara and The Great Blue Sea
Wadanohara the Sea Witch and her three familiars are on their way back home to the Sea Kingdom when they're stopped by Wadanohara's vicious ex-familiar, Samekichi, who tells Wadanohara to leave and never return, or else…
There are battles, but they aren't too hard because the game focuses on story more than combat. Very cute graphics and characters, and I highly recommend diving headfirst into this game completely spoiler free for the best effect, as there are huge plot twists.
Download and more info: http://vgperson.com/games/wadanohara.htm
Here's another game by the same creator.
"Mogeko Castle">>Horror adventure game
"Yonaka Kurai, an extremely ordinary high schooler. She takes the usual train home.
Though it's all ordinary, today is somewhat special. Today, her beloved brother comes home.
But when she wakes, the train has stopped at an unfamiliar station…"
(all I could find was a lets play for the game, sorry if that's not your thing)
Well, might as well list the third of Deep-Sea Prisoner's games.
The Gray Garden
In a world where angels and demons co-exist peacefully, you play as Yosafire, a fire demon who loves flowers. After the appearance of a strange bat engulfed in flames, an adventure begins to unfold.
Currently the least scariest of Deep-Sea Prisoner's games. Kinda long, too. Like Wadanohara gameplay-wise, but with less boss fights and maybe a little harder. The plot's not also as twisty, but it's still pretty cute, and I like some of the characters more than Wadanohara's.
Download and more info: http://vgperson.com/games/graygarden.htm
(couldn't find one without commentary)
Free Icecream>point-and-click flash
Not amazing, but it's free (joke intended)
. Play as a little girl escaping the house of her kidnapper.http://www.gameshed.com/Scary-Games/Free-Icecream/play.html
he has made some interesting platformers and shmups, combining 16-bit and 8 bit elements.
>also hard as balls
A very well made atmospheric platformer with some really interesting play mechanics. Difficulty is high but feels so good.
After you play it please consider supporting the dev and throwing a few bucks at him.
Download and trailer:http://ryanmelmoth.itch.io/mibiblisquest
You play as a frog who survived the flooding of it's former home, the forest. With nowhere to go and no other choice, you descend into the depths of what used to be a normal forest and find horrible, horrible things. Fight for survival, find and save other frogs (if you can), uncover some dark secrets.
Yeah, probably not for people who have an intense fear of finding creepy shit at the bottom of a large body of water.
Download + more info: http://store.steampowered.com/app/294140/
I know it isn't free, but it's only $1.99.
Just picked this up during the summer sale for like 30 cents. Nice little arcady kind of game.
A girl named Cecilia is asleep one night, but a flash of lightning wakes her up and she finds she's experiencing sleep paralysis. Fight away monsters that are after her until she can move her body again.
Made for a contest. Cute pixel art and most of the gameplay is figuring out how to get rid of monsters and then trying to keep up with protecting Cecilia. Monsters come in "waves". Just try it yourself.

Noitu Love 2: DEVOLUTION>Side Scrolling Beat-em Up
Awesome game where you beat up a bunch of robots with delicious pixel art.
(Gameplay/Trailer is in the link)
NOTE: The demo only has one stage, the full game is also available on Steam, which is great when a sale is going on.
This was the best game in the contest, IMO
GODS WILL BE WATCHING
>"Moral puzzler," strategy/survival, 2D retro
Use your increasingly limited daily number of actions to keep your crew members alive and find a way to be rescued. You have 40 days.
There's a full game they made based from this for $10 on Steam iirc but this one is totally sufficient by itself.
Hello? Hell…o? (Moshi Moshinee>Adventure, puzzle
Spooky evolution of an "escape the room" game in rpgmaker. Does some neat metastuff. Name is dumb as hell but it's a good game!
One of those "play it for yourself" games. It's short.
the reason of the name was due to the fact that there's a pun in the Japanese title. it works much better in Japanese, where it's a portmenau of "moshi moshi" (telephone greeting) and "shinee" ("DIE!")
Oh nice, I didn't know there was a thread like this and I wanted to post about a game but figured it would seem obnoxious to make a whole new thread about something that wasn't a Yume Nikki fangame type thing.
Super Fighters/Super Fighters Deluxe>2D fighting game
You play as a guy trying to beat/shoot the opposing guys to death, pretty simple really. There are two versions with the original being pretty barebones but only being single player and the newer version having more weapons, customizable characters and being multiplayer. It's very entertaining and not too hard to get the hang of you can get the controls down. Reminds me a bit of an old game called Soldat, which was sort of like what real-time Worms would be like. You can play the original online and if you're into this sort of game I'd suggest giving it a try.
A story about a melancholy little girl named Tess. It's inspired by Cave Story and Kero Blaster.
*It's very entertaining and not too hard to get the hang of if you can get the controls down.
Damn you past self.
Well, she's definitely melancholy, that's probably the most depressed-looking shooting stance I've seen in that sort of game. But anyway, it's cool there've been other games inspired by Cave Story. Is that one fairly good?
It is just a pleasant game. Very simple, not too long, and maybe not as polished as Pixel's games, but it has heart.
It also seems to be inspired by OFF, what with the masks. Definitely a solid game, though it feels very unfinished (The creator mentioned he wanted to expand on it too)
Now that they've all been translated I think it's alright to post the LiEat series now (not to mention that I and II just got updated with bonus content too)
LiEat I - III>RPG
The stories change as you go through the series but it's about a con artist and his lie eating dragon named Efina who travel to different places with some kind of mystery to them.
The games themselves have multiple endings but are pretty short at about an hour per game or less.
LiEat II: http://vgperson.com/games/lieat2.htm
LiEat III: http://vgperson.com/games/lieat3.htm
I only included the dumb name disclaimer because it actually turned me off from playing it until a friend of mine told me it was good.
A very cool air battle game. Pay what you want for it. Still indev but it's already a very solid game.
Game by the creator of Cave Story. Be an adorable squid trying to do squid things. Save some fish. Fly a space ship, normal squid stuff. Don't forget the English patch!
Psst, there's also a very inexpensive 3DS version you should get.
This is a fucking gold mine.
An Apple II dot style surrealistic adventure game, explore the aesthetic bizarre world map and places.
I love this series. Also recommend it!
fucking love this guy
Gameplay : http://get.your-d.tk
The dark, trippy, useless web game.
it does not supported by IE browser.
A first-person adventure/exploration game.
Other than that, I have no idea how to describe this.http://cicadamarionette.com/Games/CryptWorlds/Main.html
i've held onto these for a while
but i think it's time
first off is midnight station, it's pretty recent. a binding of isaac-type game with around three endings
next is octopus city blues, i'm mostly attracted to its aesthetic quality. it's an exploration/puzzle game
and uh, trapped, its a super buggy wip survival-y game but it looks like its going to be a masterpiece in the future
I remember following the OCB kickstarter, it's been a while since I've heard of it, I'm glad it was succesfully funded
Posting a picture because it deserves more attention
how did this get to page 3? bump.
Merendam. Has anybody played this game? If anyone tries it out, share your opinion…?
Creator's LINK + PC download (free) + Mirror + AppStore Link(not free)is all here = http://erocona.itch.io/merendam-for-pc
Supposedly is in 9 languages, I think the maker is Korean and unsure of the translation quality.
2 small games I found today and thought were pretty neat and both reminded me of Yume Nikki in some ways.
A short and surreal exploration game that has no objective as such, just things to explore and find. Kinda reminiscent of both Yume Nikki and LSD Dream Emulator.http://lilithzone.itch.io/oneiric-gardens
Fallow (demo)> Adventure, Exploration
This game is stylistically very reminiscent of old jrpgs and rpgmaker horror games, but with an aesthetic influence from Southern Gothic literature. The demo is unfortunately very short but the atmosphere is great.http://josiahtobin.itch.io/fallow-demo
#21: The World>Exploration
"#21: The World is a surrealistic exploration game based on my dream journal I have kept for years. The game is heavily inspired by Osamu Sato's LSD Dream Emulator. I hope to disturb, calm, and shock players with #21: The World's many settings."
I couldn't find gameplay footage, it's short. (45 - 60 minutes) So I recommend playing it blind.
This is not a minimalist game>platformer and puzzle
One of my personal favorites.
Play it online:http://www.kongregate.com/games/StormAlligator/this-is-not-a-minimalist-game
A Metroidvania where you're a bird.
(grabbed it from random Youtuber)
Apparently the last post in this thread was made over an year ago, but whatever, I'll add something to the list regardless.
Oneshot>Exploration/Puzzle with unique gameplay features
You must help a child get back to his home world, offering him guidance as he carries the sun of a world that falls appart by the minute.
The game has pretty cool ways of breaking the 4th wall, also if you quit the game the child dies and you get a game over, the game has a lot of potential to be replayable but it really isn't
You'll see what I mean after you finish the game
Note: The original game was made in a month, for a contest of some sort from what I heard, but it's getting remastered and is going to release on steam someday in august of this year
Official page: www.oneshot-game.com
>Puzzle / Exploration / Yume Nikki fangame(?)
You must take control of a Fleshchild, a strange being that lives in the sewers.
The Fleshchild is causing some trouble to the neighbours who live up above in the surface, due to the crimes of murder and vandalism that are on the rise after your arrival.
Note: if you have problems on the museum area (such as not spawning when you enter a room) you might want to download the patch on the dev's blog:http://bleetdev.tumblr.com/fleshchild
What's next? Miserere?
Exploration / Sandbox / Walking / Open end / No-plot / Yume Nikki fangame(?)
Yume Niki is an indie game developed by Kikiyama from 2004 to 2007. To this day, the last version ever uploaded was the 0.10, and although Kikiyama has already stated he'd like to add more content, it seems fairly improbable at this point.
You play as Madotsuki, a hikikomori who won't leave her room. The only things you can do in your small apartment is to play a NES game called NASU, write in your dream diary (The savepoint), go out to the balcony, and sleep.
The point of the game is to explore Madotsuki's dreams. They go from a rather cutesy ambient into pretty surreal areas, and the huge amount of worlds, creatures and events has led the many fans to propose many different theories over what happened to Madotsuki and why she's locked up in her room having such dreams. Since it was published, it's got the attention of many people first in japan, and later in the west when it was fan-translated. To this day, it's gained a small cult of hardcore fans and fangames, which are (mostly) hosted in the infamous western imageboard uboachan.
The BGM is fantastic and fits really well in the game, creating a well immersed atmosphere. It's definitely a must-play for people who want to experience a different kind of gameplay rarely used in games.

>>4428>Yume Nikki fangame(?)>(?)
I love it because we really just don't know anymore.
i think its accurate to say that yume nikki is a stream-of-consciousness experience. thats a label ive heard to describe these feverdream-like exploration games. yume nikki is practically a genre in its own, though, in regards to the games it inspired. theres nothing out there quite like the obscure, bootleg, slow-paced stream-of-consciousness adventure with a hint of collectathon that you get from yume nikki and its fangames
My bad, anyway, here's another game that's pretty cool:
Out There Somewhere>Platformer / Puzzle
It's kinda like Portal, and it's pretty cheap too
Steam Page: http://store.steampowered.com/app/263980/
Khimera: Destroy All Monster Girls>Action/Platformer
Cute monster girl beating up other cute monster girls. Mix of Shovel Knight and Megaman Free on Steam, but there are probably other ways to download it as well.http://store.steampowered.com/app/467380/
Really fun modernized arena shooter with SICK WALL FLIPS and other deep movement mechanics. Free on GOG and from the dev's website.https://www.warsow.gg/https://www.gog.com/game/warsow
Very good series of games, the first two of which are free.
Momodora 1 is very similar to Cave Story in gameplay, and momo 2 takes on a more metroid-like experience. Very short games.
I would also highly recommend III and IV (especially IV).https://rdein.itch.io/
A Mini Falafel Adventure>platformer/action/light metroidvania
Genre pretty much says it all, but the game is fun and stylish with memorable boss fights.http://www.beadybox.com/falafel/falafel-ss1.png
VERY lite-metroidvania, a bit Cave Story-esc.
You are a lazy crow and own a hotel and today you are getting inspected, so you better get everything in order, or they are gonna shut your place down.
Fairy Lands: Rinka and the fairy gems>[s]Match 3[/s] Match 2From the creators of "Dreams of Dead" (an Yume Nikki fangame)
A game about cute fairies living in a cute fairy world (a bit Touhou-inspired). Just a nice casual game and it's completely kid friendly. no
Dont worry, Ubuu is so dead practically every post outside of /hikki/ is a necrobump
I mostly use this thread for archival purposes lol
At this point itch.io is the best resource of tiny freeware games, but it's still nice to have some sort of "I have played this and I know it's good" filter.
So I hope it's still useful for the small amount of people who still check on this thread!
It's definitely a good thread in my books. Just diving into itch.io is bound to give you quite a lot of half-baked shovelware. Hearing about games that others have tried and found actually good is very useful.
I've had this thread open in my browser for the better part of two years now since /og/ for some reason has a tendency to post interesting games. I've literally never browsed any other board on this site so I don't know if I'm depriving myself.
Environmental Station Alpha>metroidvania
You're a robot in space, investigating a derelict space station. Features the greatest grappling hook in video game history, great boss design, and a memorable soundtrack, as well as a postgame that'll send you running for your strategy guide.
Steam page ($7.99, has demo (!)):http://store.steampowered.com/app/350070/
youtube link is down, no idea how to google it
Spring:1944 3.00 "Operation Frühlingserwachen" released!
Spring: 1944 is a free, open source WWII themed 3D multiplayer game based on the libre SpringRTS Engine. Our goal is to create a game that is as realistic as possible while still being fun and accessible to play. Games on average take 40 minutes and feature up to 8 factions battling to the last man standing. All factions are complete with several types of infantry, towed and self-propelled guns, normal and rocket artillery, tanks, aircraft and boats. The game supports big matches with thousands of units and double digit player counts.
A new version of Spring:1944 was released. This one is numbered 3.00 with codename Operation Frühlingserwachen and is based on the SpringRTS 103 engine. Operation Frühlingserwachen or "Spring Awakening" was a combined German and Hungarian counterattack in march of 1945 against the advancing Soviet troops near Lake Balaton.
Major changes since Spring:1944 2.0 "Operation Overlord" include:
>Two completely new sides: Hungary has been added to the axis factions and Sweden is available for those who would rather not pick sides in this war. Both factions are complete with their infantry, vehicles, towed guns, mobile and rocket artillery, aircraft, boats, tanks and more.>An "in-game" faction picker widget. It is now possible to pick your faction when choosing the starting position>A preview version of a new AI called spammer was added to assist the C.R.A.I.G. AI in training you for multiplayer games. This one will throw units at your at breakneck pace from a big and scary Flakturm. Can you hold your ground against it? Install the game and find out!>Some units have received a graphics makeover in the form of new models and new skins. Build menu pictures have also been updated.>For those who have new graphics cards a new graphics makeover has been added in the form of SSAO, color correction and Cook-Torrance specular shader.
>There are new units available for the 6 other factions:
US: M36 Jackson tank destroyer
JPN: Type 5 heavy tank destroyer (Na-To)
JPN: Busou Daihatsu Artillery Craft
JPN: JPNT14 torpedo boat
All: Scout cars have been added
All: long range guns (longer range howitzers)
>A new match option called Spoils of War has been added, which spawns 1940 era French armor at flags. The first one to capture the flag gets it, hurry up!>Flags now display their value. As always, flags give you income with which you can build units and increase in value over time.>And ofcourse many many bugfixes.

Rainy Day>Multiple choice thing
A short browser game about someone with anxiety Well, maybe not by uboachan standards but its still nice
trying to do stuff.
Gameplay (the only one I could find that wasn't by either some annoying upbeat person or someone who gets the title wrong):https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktPXsAwkRP0
A Nation of Wind>Top-down shooter / strategy
From your airship, build and defend a city against flying monsters a la Actraiser. Managing your city while monsters keep trying to destroy it can be stressful, but I find it really addictive
Old japanese game based on LSD dream emulator but not as good.
There's a game I got off itch.io a while ago, but I can't remember it's title. It's a 1st person walking simulator type game where you go on the train to different locations (you wait for specific trains for each location) and meet various non-human characters. If anyone knows what I'm talking about I'd be very gratefull if they could post it.
Disregard that, I remembered I keep a list of links to games I download.====
The Endless Express>Adventure
Take the train to some cool places and I think there's a story and stuff I don't really remember.
I could not find a single gameplay video that was bearable to watch, you're just going to have to play it. I think providing gameplay footage is just a formality anyway.
You're stranded on a weird planet so you have to collect parts to repair your ship and leave. Scour the planet finding items and interacting with things until there's nothing left to do.
The graphics are a little above ASCII level but the planet really springs to life through its amusing texts and your interactions with it, in any case very surreal and fascinating.
Murder Dog IV
Murder Dog on trial!
Has a good trailerhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfF3psMGXPQ
Also, "The Astonishing Captain Skull" is another goodie by the same fellow, who also made Space Funeral.
God did this thread create nostalgia for me
Here's my trash dump, none of them are great but they used to be favorites
Too lazy for gameplay
1: A small talk at the back of beyond >interactive fiction
You wake up. Alone, in a dark room. Alone? No, there is someone talking to you through a console. Will you respond?
2: Till cows tear us apart >interactive fiction
A road trip filled with adventure, romance and cows across a desert called Space.
3:Dino run >side scrolling
The Asteroid has finally hit! Escape the pyroclastic wall of doom and find your dino sanctuary!
Was my favorite kongregate game for a long time as a kid
4: My pet protector >rpg
Shape the destiny of your new apprentice. Will he rise to become hero or zero? Renowned Warrior or Poignant Poet?
Find him a job, send him to school, delve into deep dungeons and emerge with treasure or bruises?
Has a few sequels
5:Relive your life >5 minute
Start off as a sperm cell, and play through a series of seamlessly integrated mini-games that change the course of your life. There are 29 different endings!
Super Mario Bros X 2.0>Engine
Fan-made update to SMBX that includes a shitload of new characters, the ability to use lua scripts, and an improved level editor.
While I still don't think its as versatile as ROM hacking Super Mario World, it's definitely more beginner friendly. And of course it absolutely stomps on Mario Maker in terms of what you can do. Future updates will include a shitload of more enemies and gimmicks, along with easier lua integration.
Beemis: The Curse of God>Shoot 'em Up
Fun game with weird sense of humor and an art style not unlike Space Funeral's, can be finished in about an hour.
Game by obscure dev ikiki, featuring really solid gameplay mechanics and nude ninjas.
Oh hell yeah, thanks for this post. Thought Ikiki's site was long gone. He made some cool games.
Hakaiman>Action stealth game
Stealth game that's less 'quiet sneaking around' and more using stealth to make opportunities to go in loud with bombs and guns and to manage aggro.
The last week videos of a japanese dude playing this game started appearing in my Youtube recommendations, initially I ignored them but I've decided to watch one of them, apparently is a japanese horror game made on RPG Maker 2000. According to Google Translate seems like the name is Red Village (Akai Mura). I don't know what it is about but here's the game if someone knows moon-rune and is interested.https://www.freem.ne.jp/win/game/16577
And here's one of the videos:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0bEbThLTumk&
I don't know if this is a prequel or sequel but seems to be related. According to Google Translate the name's Red Swamp (Akai Numa) which makes sense since the game seems to happen at a swamp now.https://www.freem.ne.jp/win/game/18320https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZXnebedP7c
A bit late, but I've heard good things about this game on rpgmaker.net.
It claims to be made in the style of older RPG Maker games, and I kinda like that since Horrorvale was really shitty in my opinion, and you couldn't really get it if you weren't a huge RPG Maker fanatic.
Sky: Children of the Light>From the award-winning creators behind Journey (2013 Game of The Year) and the highly-acclaimed Flower, comes a ground-breaking social adventure that is set to warm your hearts.

Download for iOS: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/sky-children-of-the-light/id1462117269
Soon avaialable also for Nintendo Switch.
Creepy retro-metroidvania with a bit of metroid/bloodborne vibes. Unfortunately, the game is pretty raw and almost unplayable without a gamepad, but has very haunting atmosphere, godtier sound design and original setting with a lot of hidden and cryptic stuff.https://vincentguff.itch.io/marrow
Deeproot Manor>Adventure, puzzle, exploration
Your younger brother got lost in the woods and as his sister you explore a creepy mansion to find him back
Footsies> VS Fightinghttps://twitter.com/HiFightTH/status/1311294768144502784
Stripped-down fighting game with mirror matches & simpler execution.
I just realized Niko has more human ears in this screenshot. Definitely not a cat.
IMO it's a fun grindy game. IF you are dedicated enough, just about everything is free in the game. IF you need platinum (the premium currency), you can grind your way to get some by trading stuff the in-game market wants for platinum. there's really nothing that is locked behind real life money. all weapons and warframes are unlocked via crafting them. You can make just about anything end-game viable with enough time.
The only downside is that, around the end game/late game, the game will really make you grind resources. By the time you reach that late game, you'll have a comfortable build to do just about anything tho. Completionist beware.
