Looking back into it, what do you think of the YN-fangames?

>What do you think about .flow?

>What do you think about 2kki?

>What do you think about "2nd gen" fangames such as Miserere?

By the way, what do you think about this ol' legend of a RPGmemer:

I agree wholeheartedly on the edge.

Also, as a preface, i have not actually played any other fangames other than .flow and i didnt even play that all that much. The reason for that is i felt it moved way too fast (lol). I felt that i barely had time to take in one location or one style before i was rushed on to the next. I was never given that feeling of being completely absorbed in the atmosphere lke YN gave me. It felt too try hard, like the game kept forcing more things upon me trying to seem impressive, but it really came off as too much for me.

.flow never had the feeling that it was edgy for the sake of being edgy except for the school which just says

>albino girl had problems at school

>smile possibly killed himself or some shit or he was a bully or something ayy

The lighter areas in comparison such as the Underwater map, the area where you get the psychedelic effect and the rainbow maze feel like a really good change of pace compared to the usual "industrial grit theme" of the other areas before it.

Most of the areas themselves aren't that creepy, most of the disturbing aspects from the game come when you go back in retrospective and have some fridge horror.

That said, the fact that there is a handgun effect is silly.

Meanwhile when you play as Rust edge goes over 9000. No really, shit get real.

>What do you think about .flow?

I didn't care for the gorier aspects but I think it was really well-done as a dark journey through Sabitsuki's traumatic past. Of all the fangames I've played it was the one that felt the most cohesive, like there was an actual plotline waiting to be pieced together. I loved the feeling and aesthetic of certain areas, but for some I felt like they were pointless YN ripoffs, like the neon music world. Still not as bad as what some other fangames do though.

>What do you think about 2kki?

Oh man, I adore it. It took YN's surreal exploration angle and just ran with it. It's a joy to explore and it's filled to the brim with such creativity, it's honestly one of my biggest inspirations. Of course the games's numerous artists is both a blessing and a curse, and it's best to come into 2kki not looking for any coherency like with YN or .flow, but purely for exploration. In that respect I think it's a masterpiece.

>What do you think about "2nd gen" fangames such as Miserere?

I never got into those, really. I've been meaning to but I never got around to it, and honestly I feel a lot of them look mediocre. However if we're counting John Clowder's work here, I've got to say I love them. Both Middens and Gingiva are wonderful homages to YN while carrying their own wonderful sense of surrealism, and I hope to do something as good someday. Where is Where they Cremate the Roadkill, though? I've heard some shit's gone down in his life (criminal charges apparently) so it might never come out. Shame it turned out like this.

I read a manga called Dorohedoro recently and I think it explains a lot of what's going on with .flow's edginess. Smile's entire design is pretty much ripped off wholesale from a character there. Look up the 'Crosseyes'

The manga itself is pretty brutal but balances that with light-hearted humor and friendship… Both of which .flow doesn't (can't, really) have.

Yeah, .flow is somewhat limited by the YN formula, it feels more like its own thing.

Trying to get Yume 2kki to work on Windows 10
-I downloaded the japanese language pack just in case i'd need it
-I have the game extracted. There was a gibberish error for a bit.
-I installed Locale emulator as told. Got another error, only english words being RPG and 2000. Picture related.
-I installed 2000RTP. Having errors with that, after extracting.
-I'm sulking low in my chair, unable to wallow in fan-art and fan games.

any help appreciated

So has anyone heard of this Korean fangame? It's pretty decent (and actually finished). It's got far more maps than most fangames, up to 400. There's about 27 effects, and most of them are required for something.

There's one effect in particular that is extremely useful for backtracking, especially when you get stuck in a dead end. I won't go into details so that you might enjoy it yourself.

The music and graphics are pretty hit or miss, though. Some areas have pretty nice tracks, others can get annoying after a while, but not nearly to the same level as Farewell's music.

It's been translated to English, too, so that's helpful for picking out effects.

Hey guys! I've watched this place, but I haven't posted anything until I get my game developed and into good condition (as in bugs that are in need to get fixed).

Here's Iter: Itineris. Iter , which is Latin for Journey, is a classic-styled Yume Nikki fangame without the repetitive 'doing to bed to enter the dreamworld' stuff. You play as Ava as you go into a rift that had appeared in her home to explore bizarre and strange places. The 'Effects' are called XenoVisions.

The game got it's update recently, and I want to share it with everyone.

I've been having this error that happens when I try to save in the bed or when I enter certain maps. I've tried what I know to fix it and it's driving me mental.

Some things to know:
1. My locale is in Japanese
2. I have the latest version
3. I have all the RTPs

Any help would be appreciated. I would love to play .flow again.

I don't even need the RTPs to play it.

I think it would be a good idea to make one to have people developing fan games join and be easily able to talk to each other for ideas, critiques, and suggestions for their games.

If people don't want discord then they should have used the IRC chat. I'm pretty sad about it too, but it looks like nobody wants IRC anymore around here. Better to have something people will use in my opinion before everyone leaves to third-party chats leaving no centralized chat community attached to Uboachan.

Please for the love of all that is good prove me wrong.

RIP IRC. You will be missed, but only by me.

Alternatively if users start using IRC again I will gladly toss this Discord fad to the curb. It's literally just IRC with image and backlog support. IRC and imageboards have gone hand in hand since forever, and I liked it better that way.

Discussion about IRC vs Discord here: https://uboachan.net/sugg/res/3027.html
Convince me whether to promote IRC or Discord for Uboachan.

Hey everyone, I'm back with a new game! It's Amihailu in Dreamland. It's a fangame (in the sense that you're playing a game that takes place, ostensibly, in a dream, with disjointed area continuity, etc.) I'm making in RPG Maker VX Ace. As of this writing, I'm already up to 0.01. I held off on releasing to Uboachan because we get too many projects here that do not ever get released (though it's much, much worse on tumblr).

Here's a brief summary of this game and my goals with it:
-You play as Amihailu
-You can't leave the dream world and enter at will like in many other fangames
-Many decisions you make will affect the narrative and events in large or small ways
-More event- and puzzle-based than some previous games (Hell Diary included)
-There are no effects in this game, and many of the items are intended to be optional (of course, there's not really a chance to pass them up implemented as of this writing.)

You can get the game here if you'd like to try it out: http://www.mediafire.com/?23yl4dp5hdoudyx
