In order to prove that this is not a Yume Nikki fangame - and thereby not "on topic", you must first establish criteria for what a Yume Nikki fangame is and then establish that this game does not meet them. Otherwise, your claim - that this is not a Yume Nikki fangame - will be at best unproven and at worst false.

You have done neither of these things. Due credit: you appear to have at least attempted, in a very backhanded and evasive way, to do the first - the criterion you tacitly attempted to assert was that Omori is tainted with "Tumblr" in a way that Yume Nikki was not. However, even in this, you fucked up, because not only did you fail to address the surplus of Yume Nikki content on Tumblr and what it meant for the criterion you attempted to smuggle in through the back, you went on to say that Omori had, and I quote, an immensely smaller impact - this impact being, presumably, on Tumblr. That is to say that you admit, in your own words, that Tumblr cares less about Omori than Yume Nikki, meaning that you have yourself denied your original position, whatever it meant.

Did you simply misspeak? Or is it the case, perhaps, that you don't know what the fuck you're talking about and never did?

I'm going to attempt to re-rail this thread by moving it to /og/ and asking us to stop arguing about whether or not it's a YN fangame, and talk about the game instead.

I used to understand why people were so upset about other communities like Tumblr enjoying the things we enjoy, but I forgot / don't really care anymore. We are a Yume Nikki fansite; if they like it, let them come.

Omori looks pretty good and I have been meaning to play it.

sorry if this comes off as retarded, i just NEED to share this idea with SOMEONE, ANYONE… READ IT, DAMIT! ahem

I think a YN MMORPG would be pretty cool. Not "based on" or "inspired by"; an actual Yume Nikki MMO.

erryone gets their own OC and blank room on startup. Effects have a wide range of possibilities now - to build rooms you need to get to public dream worlds and poke around for a bit to find "room effects", basically tilesets. room owners can also hand out their own room effects, if they feel like it.

every room has an owner, and each room is connected to each other neocities-style. more visits = more effects potentally spawning in your room = more win

and some regular effects too, cosmetic effects are just cosmetics idk.

PVP would be fun. i imagine it like pic related (src: gobou's Dream Kombat https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sdWbeB95NbM), but
less buffed so the richkids don't become bloodthirsty assholes

neat shit eh?

(if anyone wants to make this, fucken do it. Get yoself a willing pixel artist, dev skills, and a good server or two. i'll join and build a cock palace)

Recently played Azusa 999. It's an rpgmaker game from 1997 and in a lot of ways a precursor to Yume Nikki. It's interesting to check out. I would say it's closer to games like Ib than Yume Nikki, but a lot of the themes and ideas are similar (another world that is sparse and unpopulated, non-human creatures, trauma around violence/bullying/suicide/depression/isolation, etc)

Which, if any, of the following traits preclude a game's status as a 'traditional' Yume Nikki fangame?
>being made with a 3D engine
>being made in an engine other than RPGmaker
>having a non-fixed viewpoint
>having dialogue/dialogue trees
>having non-chibi/large player models
>having a non-tile-based movement system
>having 'health points' that allow the player to take multiple hits
I have an idea for something but I'd prefer to stay within the constraints of classical YNF design.

 No.15017

>having dialogue/dialogue trees

Degrees vary, but this is the dealbreaker for me. As soon as it has more than 2-3 lines of writing in total it's not longer a 'traditional' fangame, even worse if the writing is dialogue.

Thank you for replying. Here are a few more elements for your consideration.
>realtime/reflex-based gameplay
>puzzles
>inventory systems/non-effect items
>following NPCs
>combat beyond simple knife/knife-analogue usage

Also, what about system specifications? Yume Nikki is apparently good to go on a 200MHz machine with 32MB RAM and no video card. Is this the system profile a fangame maker ought to target?

"The whole Kancolle situation" is an entirely different matter though, because all circumstances point to the ban only existing out of fear that a fan could make a better KanColle game than the original (which wouldn't be any difficult at all). Kadokawa owns a fuckton of series and they don't care about fangames based on the vast majority of them, hell even Kemono Friends which they murdered so soon after it exploded is free game for fan games.
But yeah, in any case it's always great to have more mirrors. I've suffered a lot with the official downloads for 2kki in the past too so it feels nice having another place to download it from, so thanks for the paranoia.

I've been trying to remember some old YN fangame from years ago but I can't think of the name of it. It was really unusual and creepy.

Basically the protag of the game was, like, some shadow girl, and she had this other normal looking blue room. Instead of dreaming in her bed, she used a music box, but here's where things get weird.

Apparently the game would crash and upload some kind of virus onto your computer if you tried to listen to the music box. The virus would delete and replace saved images with pictures of the shadow girl with a red background. I remember somebody however managed to fix the game so that the virus wouldn't run when you went to the music box, but after that was done, it was found out that going up to the music box and listening to it transported the girl to either an endlessly looping black world, or an endlessly looping red world depending on some variable, with no means of "waking up".

Does anyone know what game I'm talking about is? And just what was the deal with it? Was it some weird attempt at creepypasta? Some weird troll game?

Nice find! I'll have to check this out myself.
Also, considering that was posted close to the first Red Room after the game's release, I think that's just 1o111111 showing (in their own cryptic way) how to trigger it, as it lines up with everything shown. (Lights off, radio)

New moon is here again, and the red room is active same as before, but looks like no new content still.

Considering how completely barebones this game is, I'm really surprised how often I think about it though. Would not recommend opening it up while intoxicated due to the negative emotional aura. Very bad vibes.

A negative emotional aura is something I've personally experienced, and according to other users I've spoken to, it's not unheard of for them either.

Wow. Out of every thread on this board, this is not one I'd expect to see miraculously revived. I always felt that there was something more to this bizarre little game, so color me ecstatic! I also never expected its mysteriousness to run so deep.

>>15055

I find it hard to put into exact words but I've felt the same effects playing this. Weird. Some people were haphazardly giving this game flak for the grim-dark aesthetic it kinda feels like it has on the surface but going through all of it thoroughly, I'd argue this is probably one of the most isolating and alien feeling YNFGs I've played. Hard to put to words, like I said, but it does feel like there's some sort of malevolent presence behind the game or something, which was probably the intention behind the very unique atmosphere.

(Could I get a fresh link for that Discord server? It appears that the old one's expired)

I guess you're missing .flow, I guess Miserere and Fleshchild also make some interesting experiences, though Fleshchild is supposedly not a fangame.

It's not "some" of them unfinished though, it's a huge vast majority, finding a good YNFG is like digging through the trash cans of the most disgusting hospital in he worst neighborhood trying to find something worth your while, I wish you luck in your quest.

I blame tumblr, it's like a factory of unfinished games there.

Oh yeah, dunno why I forgot about .flow. I also forget about Yume Graffiti, which is one of my personal favorites. I'll give Miserere a shot. I remember trying Fleshchild once before, but there's something off putting about murdering people to get their body parts…

The Japanese Yume 2kki wiki has a list of fangames there (naturally only Japanese ones). I've decided it might be a good idea to look at the ones that actually have endings. I've found a few that I haven't played yet, so I'll have to try them out.

Just thought I'd introduce myself to the Yume Nikki community and let everyone know that I'm planning to start up a Youtube channel mainly dedicated to Yume 2kki, though I might cover some other fangames on it as well. The reason is because I feel like 2kki has gone more under the radar within the last few years, and I'm hoping to try and revive interest in the game through my own personal commentary on its many aspects such as maps, events, NPCs, etc.

I also want to make videos focused on 2kki's OST, because I think the soundtrack for 2kki is VASTLY underappreciated. There's so much good music in the game that gets unnoticed, it honestly makes me upset. My first plan for videos is to upload a series of compilations/mixes of all the chill and relaxing music/ambience from across the game. It'll be a big undertaking, but I have yet to see anyone else do this.

Here are some other ideas I have for videos on the channel in addition to the chill music mixes:

Chill & Calming Music from Yume 2kki to relax/study to (compilation series, no commentary)

The Most Beautiful & Serene Areas of Yume 2kki (commentary/opinion)

Yume 2kki's Creepiest, Eeriest, and Most Disturbing Maps (commentary/opinion)

The Worst & Most Frustrating of Yume 2kki's Maps (commentary/opinion)

The Problems with Yume 2kki's Development Cycle (opinion/critique)

If we (or rather he) can avoid let's play-ish style of videos, that would be cool.

personally, I'm thinking: (The example i am showing applies to some of his ideas. not all. anyway:) starting the video with the player just about to enter the subject of the video and making a short summary of the subject and mention one thing that makes it interesting.
Not too long. just a small video. the video should leave enough detail to let the viewer be interested in finding it by themselves and experiment. Let them wonder about the subject.
