>>6322I have something to add, if I may, that is germane not necessarily to the topic of this thread, but to this argument and the state of the site.
Chans are in a sorry way. Very few people produce OC, and what little there is typically amounts to asinine caricatures of the "I Am Silly" type: clipart designed to "win" arguments through manipulation of the lowest common denomination of user. Usage has declined and chans are slower - many have simply gone under. I can't speak to why other people have chosen to stop using chans, nor why they've chosen to stop contributing to them. I speak only for myself when I say: it's you.
Your posting style is not designed to convey information. It is not designed to clearly and unambiguously establish your position. It is not designed even to
entertain. What it's made to do, above all else, is
get your way. Is Omori "Tumblr", any moreso than Yume Nikki? Of course not. Yume Nikki is a game about an alienated girl who never leaves the house and has an affinity for bizarre aesthetics.
This describes one of Tumblr's primary demographics. But the utility of mentioning Tumblr is not in
describing anything - which is why you used "Tumblr", instead of an actual adjective with a real definition. The utility of mentioning Tumblr is in evoking a tribal reaction from the (stupidest parts of) the audience, who will then defend you to the death, because they believe, like poorly trained dogs barking at the mailman, that you're
their guy and your interlocutor
is not. You are, properly speaking, not an
argumentator at all, but a
rhetorician.
The difference between
argument and
rhetoric is that the former
proves and the latter
persuades. This means that the latter doesn't have to be correct - as you aren't correct, insofar as your "position" doesn't have enough semantic content to have a truth value. This has the handy side effect of making it so that the rhetorician - you - never has to
admit that he can be wrong.
Since popularity is the most efficient means of persuasion, this means that in 2021 any engagement with a chan means engagement with a popularity contest run by those who are the best at appealing to authority - that is, sucking up to jannies and mods - and voted on by those who are good at being popular and not getting voted off - scum and nonentities. You have taken the most promising communications format in the past 20 years and reduced it to the level of a fucking phpBB forum. Fuck you.
