After some thinking, I decided to start a thread for my game "Elysium City". Though I actually started making this game less than a week ago, I've been planning on making something like this well before I even knew about YN fangames.

Anyways, You play as a girl named Anne who is an inventor and also a squatter, which means that her current residence is an abandoned house. In her backyard she managed to invent a machine that allows her to teleport to a different land. The place she arrives to is a city where none of the buildings lead you to different worlds.

While I want this game to have a dream-like feel to it, I'm going to have it focus a lot on urban exploration/decay. I will post more details of the game later.

Oh, important to note that I do have Locale Emulator installed and I have run the game using the admin option.

a) Doesn't seem like that locale emulator is working at all, just change your locale manually to japanese if you really want to play
b) Yes we're active, and
c) Less than five minutes are necessary to notice this thread >>229

 No.13213

There's a thread specifically for help on getting fangames to run. You might want to see it in case somebody had the same issue.
Personally, the text from that window tells nothing. There's no japanese message though and that might mean your locale is messed up. I would recommend not using LocaleEmu and just changing your System Locale under the Language options. Nothing really prejudicial happens and your system won't turn ching chong but it will be able to display Japanese text correctly.
Source: Did a Windows 10 clean install recently, changed locale was enough to get .flow running. 2kki needs the RTP though, but .flow works simply with changing your System Locale.

And yes, this place is still fairly active, even though we're mostly the same 10-15 people posting.

Okay, maybe this is some horribly mangled composite memory… but I remember seeing screenshots of a game that was supposed to be a cross between a survival horror game and a farm simulator. It was 2D and top-down as far as I remember, but it didn't have the 16-bit graphics of your typical YN fangame. The devs said it started out as a YN fangame, but wasn't anymore. Several screenshots were put out and it looked really atmospheric and unique, but it was cancelled.

I don't know if a demo or anything more substantial than just those screenshots was ever put out, but I just want to see those screenshots again or at least find out what that game was called or have some closure of knowing that I'm not just making this up… like I said, this could be a horribly mangled composite memory, so take any and every detail with a massive grain of salt, but if ANY of this sounds at all familiar, please let me know.

I noticed something about the song lainbow2 (that plays, although slowed down, during the flight event).

The beeping noise that starts at 00:08 and remains till the end of the song appears to be Morse code, which spells "A5ASH" ( .- ….. .- … …. ).

Do you think it's supposed to mean anything?

Probably not. Coincidentally though 'AA-5 Ash' was the NATO reporting name for a type of Russian air to air missile known as the R4. Used by the Tupolev Tu-28 (NATO: Fiddler) interceptor aircraft in the 1960s.

I highly doubt that it means anything though. It's probably just a catchy chiptune ditty beat lol came up with that sounded like a heart monitor. Still a neat observation.

I guess it could give credence to the theory that Sabi is a slav/Russophile and/or lived during wartime or the cold war.

Alternatively, the missile is a penis. Everything is a penis.

I was inspired to write a film script adaption for .flow (for fun), and I find myself in a rut trying to make sense of every single detail in this huge game. I must have missed a good third of the content in my first playthrough alone. Keep in mind I am by no means some kind of expert, in fact I've only discovered Yume Nikki and the assorted fangames late last year, but I'm wondering if this interpretation of the larger story holds any water.

Sabitsuki is an orphan who's mother and father are out of the picture for some possible reason, perhaps her mother died in childbirth and her father left her for adoption shortly thereafter. Whatever context, she has lived on her own almost her entire life. She has no friends or family to rely on and is largely ostracized at school, but she eventually develops a desperate, one-sided relationship with a boy in her class; Smile.

Constantly fighting to stay afloat on her own, Sabitsuki turns to prostitution to make ends meet, and it is possible it is from a client she contracts the rust disease.

Some time passes and the rust disease has reached pandemic levels across Japan (or wherever you want to assume this game takes place), death tolls in younger children is incredibly high and word gets out that Sabitsuki has been working the streets. Smile, willing to do anything to protect his sister, threatens to kill Sabi if he comes close to either of them.

Now even more secluded, Sabitsuki drops out of school and shuts herself in her room where she uses the internet to vicariously live through fragmented representations of her memories as her symptoms begin to develop. Her mental state quickly deteriorates into insanity, ultimately leading to Rust.

I see Rust as, metaphorically, Sabitsuki's repressed fears of her inner darkness and violent tenancies. She'd love nothing more than to watch her classmates all die to the disease and to cave in Smile's head with a pipe. Secluded in her room, Sabitsuki spirals into depression and isn't able to control her obsession.

Truth be told, that was my initial interpretation the first time I played the game, so it's mostly what I have to work on. There's so much stuff that's left out so take it with a grain of salt, but if I got anything wrong then feel free to correct me.

 No.12996

That's funny, according to your logic Rust is essentially a psycholgical disorder or an allegory for how disgusted and upset Sabi is with her life, but you still say that she "contracted the rust disease".

Goddamnit, why do people have to be so literal-minded all the time?

 No.12330[Reply]

I've been trying to remember some old YN fangame from years ago but I can't think of the name of it. It was really unusual and creepy.

Basically the protag of the game was, like, some shadow girl, and she had this other normal looking blue room. Instead of dreaming in her bed, she used a music box, but here's where things get weird.

Apparently the game would crash and upload some kind of virus onto your computer if you tried to listen to the music box. The virus would delete and replace saved images with pictures of the shadow girl with a red background. I remember somebody however managed to fix the game so that the virus wouldn't run when you went to the music box, but after that was done, it was found out that going up to the music box and listening to it transported the girl to either an endlessly looping black world, or an endlessly looping red world depending on some variable, with no means of "waking up".

Does anyone know what game I'm talking about is? And just what was the deal with it? Was it some weird attempt at creepypasta? Some weird troll game?

It does indeed, but I'm fairly certain it existed.

I never played it because the thread mentioned viruses associated with it. It was on the old Uboachan but I can't seem to find the thread in the archive. Or maybe it wasn't in the old /fg/.

I did watch a video of it however. And it mostly just showed all little you could do with it without the effects of the apparent associated virus. Like I said she couldn't do much except wander an endless void.

I think she might've had diagonal movement.

The game you're thinking of is probably Nocturn.

It's a relatively obscure fangame it seems. The protag's name is apparently Soentsuki.

It was apparently really buggy and crashed a lot before it seems to have been straight up abandoned. I'm not really sure what the story about it is but it did, in fact, have a thread on the old archive. It was in old /og/ though instead of /fg/. http://archive.uboachan.net/og/res/1787.xhtml

I'm not seeing anything about a virus though, just that it was poorly programmed and there's almost no info on it. I think pic related is the image you're thinking of, but I dunno if it's a screenshot or just fan art. Probably the latter.

It actually seems to have had a thread on /fg/, but the link is dead. It all sounds very creepypasta-ish but it was probably just somebody wanting to make their own edgy fangame and not knowing how before just losing interest and forgetting about it. Like most others.

Surely the creator of Terminal 00 must of heard of this project before then? It does seem to follow a similar formula. It's obviously unpolished, but there is some direction to it.
If the direction of this project is really trying to imitate another, then i'll be really disappointed. Although, looking at them side by side there are simply too many similarities for it to be called original.

What was thing that "sealed the deal" with Yume Nikki and fangames?

For me, it would be:

Yume Nikki: The whole concept in general.
Yume 2kki: Holy jeebus this game is hueg!11! Theres so many areas to go to.
.flow: It manages not to feel like a nightmare simulator with some of its calm areas pacing the game rather well.

http://bleetdev.tumblr.com/post/170168234775/your-questions-about-fleshchild-and-tlg-answered

I feel it's kinda cheap to not even tell fans how you were going to finish them and then saying that you aren't allowing anyone to finish them for you. I get that she's perfectly allowed to but it comes off as kinda scummy.

Then again, could TLG and Fleshchild ever be saved? Obviously Bleet's writing went nowhere and was never going to in the first place. TLG had some potential, despite the "quirky" HS references, but when she said that there was gonna be a dumb school VN shit thing and added a shitty Smile rip off I figured it wasn't gonna last.
Fleshchild was bad from the start. It was barely even a fangame.

It makes sense that she'd abandoned them, though I'm surprised they lasted so long.

 No.12837

I think Fleshchild had potential, I liked how it combined the dreamlike exploration with a bizarre narrative. However the designs for the two main characters were kind of shitty Smile ripoffs.

It really does feel scummy that she's not at least releasing some concept art. It's fine if she's abandoning the game but it sucks that the fans can't even get some closure.

Hey folks, it's me again! And I'm here to show you what was originally a creative draft for what would have been my Dream Diary Jam entry in June.

It is:
-A Yume Nikki styled game, more along the lines of Nightmare Castle than Hell Diary or Amihailu in Dreamland

-Started development today, on top of what was originally supposed to be the PMD Music update to AiD.

-Stars another Dugashoba girl, Maho!

Features:
-Tiniest game yet, probably going to be a WHOPPING 10MB when a build releases (if that)

-Cute and useful effects!

-The same setting as Nightmare Castle and the other games in the series

The reason why I want to see it is because I've read in the wiki that it uses the Kikai004 theme that plays in areas like in Guts World, Onyx Tile World, and Aojiru's room, and it is my favourite theme in the entire game, but for the life of me I cannot find the right version of the game that has it available in the Nexus. I am currently running in Version 0.104e, but I have played older versions of the game, but every version I have played, I haven't been able to access it. Does anyone here have a version available where I can access this place?
Please excuse the confusion, I don't know if this the right spot to post this, but I just need help. XD

I've honestly never heard of this place until now, but based on the fact that the wiki says the fairy effect used to be here before the areas removal, I'd guess it was removed quite a bit ago. It would be nice if the fan wiki was more detailed and kept record of major changes in development

There's a fair chance the Japanese wiki may have more information about that.

If you don't feel like playing through it, here's another autist doing it instead https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OrtvacEWTdE

Thought I'd start a thread for -1 or Minus Ichi. I've started playing this recently and it's really won me over. The fact that it's done in Wolf RPG Editor really makes it feel fresh compared to other fangames. Everything's so smooth.

What did you guys think?

(If there's been a thread already I'll delete this one)
