If I recall correctly, it was actually two magazines. One contained version 0.04, and the other contained version 0.06. There might've been a third magazine which contained 0.04 like the first one, but I'm uncertain of that.

Gotta love frauds.

A year ago, I met a guy who said he'd played v.0.08 of YN after finding a rar of it on 4chan. We drifted apart and he purged me from his Skype, though.
Do you guys think I should try and reconnect with him and ask if he still has it?

>after finding a rar of it on 4chan
Sounds fake as fuck. Give it a try, I bet he's going to use the classical "oh I deleted it".

Well, I tried to add him, it's been over a week and he hasn't accepted. Either he's no longer using that Skype account, he doesn't want to reconnect or idk. Guess we'll never know. RIP.

What are the best effects and worst effects in YN?

Best is obviously bike. Worst is severed head.

I think the best is the bike. The worst is definitely the fat effect.

Best- Witch
Worst- Shit hair

Best is medamaude because you can get medamaude to twice as fast as the normal bike, and it also is an extremely fast mode of transportation.

Best: midget or witch
Worst: poop hair

Hello dear Ubuu. I'm considering making a live action low-budget Yume Nikki movie. Haven't decided yet if it'll be a short or feature-length, or what worlds/areas to omit, or what the details of the story will be. I'm curious about what you guys/girls/squirrelkin think: good/bad idea, potential legal troubles since no one can ask Kikiyama for permission, what should stay, what should go, what the effects should be like (the token idea from the comic seems doable), what you'd like to see in such a production, whether or not you think dropping a crossover from something else is a good idea, etc.

I'm really just gathering my thoughts on the concept and who better to ask than fellow fans of the ganme? I do think that I'd like it to have little to no dialogue just like the game, very much "show don't tell." Also, has anyone talked about this anywhere before?

Can't wait to see what comes from this. Thanks in advance, everyone :-)

There are no cases of people creating free fanworks and being successfully sued. Like ever. One time The Pokemon Company tried to sue a kid and they ended up losing money in the process, lol.

Do what you wanna do man, but don't pretend that getting sued by Kikiyama over this is even a remote possibility.

No one is going to sue you, do you have any idea how many people rubbed their armpits with kiki's copyright? Or how many Sonic fans should be executed for this?

At this point, it's almost as if you were making this up on purpose to discard the whole idea of a movie if there ever was one, no one can be this naive…

Do you deny that there is a legal risk, even if it is marginal?

File: 1481477934007.jpg (98.19 KB, 800x592, 3929cb71dccd09b8314f462717….jpg)

"Marginal" is kind, thousands of bigger and more corporate franchises got fan films, if you're actually serious about making one you should know this, not only is improbable, but we're also talking about a person who has been MIA for like 8 years.

Granted, if I go to work today a satelite may explode in space and its remains could destroy the office where I work killing me, but I want to go to work today.

What is the creepiest place, music, and NPC in YN? I'd say the Eyeball world, Candle World music, and that Pain-blob thing in the sewers.

Theres not a place that really scares me but that face event creeps me out.

The same music that place in the face event lol the music in onsen sans room makes you feel uneasy but I still like it a lot.
FACE. Lol. No one else scares me at all.

>shitposting this hard

just leave.

Thing is, you can complete the game, collecting all the effects, without using the Knife effect at all. Madotsuki being violent is completely dependent on the player who controls her. You are the monster, anon.

The barracks always bothered me. Seriously what do you think it was supposed to represent? I kept thinking…why did she grow up on an Indian reservation irl?

File: 1481447478270.jpg (5.01 KB, 225x225, images (3).jpg)

Doesn't have to represent anything in particular. Still a great location with god-tier OST though.

Translates to "author: kikiyama", right?

Could still be a team.

This is the most accurate post on this website.

File: 1480527693481.png (509.9 KB, 876x710, 1478652417001.png)

Well, you see, let's translate it to english:

>Authors: Kikiyama

That doesn't make too much sense, doesn't it? Let's do a small modification:

>Author: Kikiyama.

Now, that looks much better.
Normally, when more than one person is involved in the development of something, they are credited for it. Specially if it's a team, explicitly stating so.

>"Ah, but they could be pretending to be only one person".

True enough, however the art style is coherent throughout the whole game, and most of the discrepancies between one area and the other seem to be more due the difference on the time on which they were produced than anything else. In other words, maps done in, say, 2005 are different than those done in 2007, and even then the changes aren't really that drastic as to hint that more than one person was involved in their production.

>"Ah, but then, what if one person worked in the graphics, and another in the music, and other in scripting, etc?".

Now, this is an interesting question. Again, the music also is coherent throughout the whole game, except for the music in the NES world, which is slightly more complex and longer than the rest of the OST. This hints us one more time than whoever worked on the music was possibly a single person. Was it the same person who worked in the graphics/scripting/etc? That cannot be answered by this alone. In fact, we can't even assure it was only one person who worked in the OST, it's just hinted due to the similarity between the music files.
Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

>has there ever been any indication that Kikiyama isn't a team or group or some other collective of more than one person?
No, has there ever been any indication that Kikiyama isn't just one person? No.
Just chances say it is one person given the circumstances.
Also, every friggin team/circle/group/whatever in existence make people notice they are a team, I don't want to believe that Kiki is a huge noob.

Why do people need the author or creator to explain the meaning behind things? Do people not realize art is subjective and will never be viewed the same exact way by people because of how we all think differently. You don't need some easy answer to enjoy the meaning behind a game. The whole point is to use your own emotions and thought to figure things out for almost everything.

Another thing is that even if the author says something there's no way knowing what situation he's in and if he really thinks that. People lie all the time about things. Hideaki Anno is a good person to use as an example because he's contradicted himself a few times when he talks about Evangelion. That's because he was in a bad mental state and isn't the most stable person to begin with. Also, I'm sure to anyone who's written something you know your feelings of what the project means can change during the process.

To me it will never matter what Kikiyama says even if he made a huge detail analysis of YN. I'd be interested and read it, probably even get some new insights, but I would not see it as some all-knowing answer because I heavily believe in Death of the Author. However even if you don't you still shouldn't rely on the creators and try and think for yourself.

>believing in death of the author

>still relying on largely surpassed 50 years old literary theory no one takes seriously any longer

It's a game about walking without meaning, Kikiyama is dead, Project Yume Nikki is fraud.
Deal with it.

Which theories have surpassed it?

The pursuit of Kikiyama which we know will never end is what fuels this community to begin with. Let's say we got our answers, it would officially be the end of the Yume Nikki journey.

We do NOT necessarily want those answers, we want

1. For Kikiyama to come back and update Yume Nikki.
2. Kikiyama to never return so we can chase him forever.

But we'll actively chase him, hoping he comes back.

We want which we cannot have. The chase is the happiness, the find marks the end of it.

New music video with some very Yume Nikki-ish imagery, especially toward the end. Could be real?

File: 1478190563232.jpg (327.74 KB, 900x666, 12.jpg)

That's because the artist who made that video is a YN fan and even used to draw fanart for it
I can't link the original upload since it was deleted though, but here's a copy someone saved

The big thing reminds me of pupun

I think finally understand Yume Nikki now. I'm not saying I'm the absolute-est right, I just wanted to share this with you. Just a ramble. Sorry for my English.

It's been perhaps over 10 years since it came out now. I discovered it… 4-5 years ago, I think. It scared the hell out of me, it made me cry, but it also made me interest; I was obssessed with it (like most of my interests), kept researching it, theorizing it, everything.
For a while, I let go. It's always been in my heart - when someone refers "Yume Nikki" it's like, ah, that nostalgic feeling.

But it's only in the past few years, and most intensely now, that I understand Yume Nikki. Perhaps I'm feeling just like a special snowflake. Perhaps I'm finally going insane. I don't know. It doesn't matter right now, this isn't about me.

But hear meowt, and forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place, or forgive me for posting at all.

Will post in parts.

"You're crazy, OP". I am. (But then again, so is Madotsuki, if we're speaking normie-level.)

This game doesn't have a story because it isn't a story.

It's a feeling, a message.

A feeling/message that sometimes I wonder if is what drove Kikiyama to make this game.

That's what I think, anyway.

I'm going to sleep now.

Nice, you basically summed up my thoughts on the whole thing as well.

Your third theory is the one most backed up by the game. The effects more or less prove that she's experienced that specific dreamscape. After she has seen everything there is to see in her dreams, there's little reason to continue living.

i think mado journey ends and there nothing to do for her in world. her great mission was completed succecfully so nothing more she needs

i think its a journey. mado searches ansvers could make her "complete". so when she finally completed the journey ends.

To be fair, the original playthrough used on that video was first uploaded on 2007.

The only advice I can give you is you should ask on some Japanese imageboards, fan sites or a p2p client. It's obvious by the time yn got popular in the West, v0.9 Was long gone. The image I posted is from 07 as well. Its from an old Japanese fansite that's still around. I'll link it when I get off work.

nvm it hasn't been updated since 2011. Cool art tho.

What is different about 0.9 exactly? If you don't mind me asking.

haven't watched the whole video yet, but for one thing the grafitti world has a completely different layout
