What a slow, sad, image board. why do you even go here?

>What a slow, sad, image board. why do you even go here?
Because it's slow and sad. No, really, it's so obscure there's a very low chance anyone I know irl comes here and I can powerlevel in peace.

Not really, there are plenty of chans that are more obscure and slower than this. Uboachan is even in several compiled chan lists, so I wouldn't call it obscure.

Not to mention everyone browsing for YN stuff finds us easily.

It's not obscure, it's just a fandom that outlived its cycle.

File: 1543781818828.jpg (329.66 KB, 1017x579, 1480109337915.jpg)

Please stop bumping this shit. People have been complaining about Ubuu being slow and the fandom being dead for years. I see new fan art almost every day on Twitter and the Discord is pretty active.

What would you do if people started posting in Japanese everywhere, all the time? I don't see any rule against that, so would you have a problem with it?

File: 1542407681809.png (183.84 KB, 708x483, nihon.png)

There is already some posting in Japanese, and that shows that we have some Japanese speaking users, which is fine in itself. However, I think that people who are comfortable writing in English should prefer to do so, because it lets more people join in the conversation.

If suddenly there were a disproportionate number of threads in Japanese, it would bump threads off of the front pages which the majority of our users can participate in, and replace them with threads that only a small minority of our users can participate in, and that could be a problem.

In Sushichan a while back, there was an incident where suddenly one or two people started making a large number of new threads in Russian over a short time span, and I deleted the threads because I perceived it as a troll rather than a genuine attempt at having conversation. It was an uncomfortable decision, and made me feel a little racist. Suddenly having a huge number of Japanese threads happen would be a strange situation for me and the site, I'm sure, and I don't know exactly what I would really do. Since the Japanese language is so intertwined with our fanbase for obvious reasons, I would probably allow it, unless it became obvious that people were doing it to be intentionally disruptive to our English speaking majority, like I suspect with the Sushichan incident.

Edit: Basically, some threads in other languages are fine, because I am sure we have Japanese (and other) users who are not comfortable with English. However, it could be a problem if a minority language greatly displaces the majority language in discussion here.

I've noticed that almost every porn spam post links to the same urls. Would it be possible to blacklist that domain and automatically delete any post that links to it?

File: 1534096040838.jpg (45.66 KB, 600x603, janitor.jpg)

Yes, but the problem is that it's a living breathing human bean behind it. The problem would be solved easily a long time ago without need for intervention if that wasn't the case. Besides, yesterday the spammer changed up their links. And the spammer is known to also post political propaganda linking to threats and criminal activity, each time with a changed URL.

the mods at finalchan do it and it works pretty well tbh

I'm not sure how hard it would be to implement, but would it be possible to block ip addresses that have been active for less than a month?

For example, billy fuckwad gets banned for spamming, so he switches ip addresses. However, billy can't post from this ip yet because it hasn't been active for long enough

It would be even more effective if the attempted posts by these ips were visable, meaning you can preemptively ban them if they're spamming and/or ban evading

In order to "become an active user", you need to post. If you need a month to be able to post, and you can't post until that month passes, you are in a loop such that nobody who hasn't ever posted in uboachan won't be able to do so, forever. It nullifies the whole point since you can't get new users.

>It would be even more effective if the attempted posts by these ips were visable, meaning you can preemptively ban them if they're spamming and/or ban evading

IPs are visible to mods and they can ban per IP, nothing new there.

Besides, not everyone has a static IP.

OK, this is what I'm looking for. Mine does not do this.

Step 1. Make thread.
step 2. Post reply in thread. It goes back to thread I made in step 1.

That is not working in my site. Does anybody know the code to make that happen? lambright@gmail.com Thanks.

File: 1533264767731.png (1.15 MB, 1277x804, Screen Shot 2018-07-28 at ….png)

How did you get the auto update working? Is that custom or was it part of some package? for vichan?

>step 2. Post reply in thread. It goes back to thread I made in step 1.
probably because you have nonoko enabled by default

Now that's a thing I haven't heard in years.

Yes that was the fix. I emailed Seisatsu and he pointed me in the right direction.

I don't understand how server costs work, but would the ability to embed videos seriously affect it? I don't mean actually uploading them, I mean posting the link, and having the video pop up in the post when you click it. Would this feature be appropriate for ubuu? I was just wondering because it seemed like it would be convient to me. I know this was mentioned, SEVEN years ago.

Shoot me the format of the posts on both board backends. I could splice together a python script pretty quick.

Hopefully it's some json format (Wishful thinking)

I think you're a little late to the party. Good to see you're still around though.

Oh, I meant if you're still thinking about moving over to lynx.

Oh! That makes more sense. Please do look into that. What we probably really need is a database transformation tool.

Give me your email address, and I'll send you access credentials for Uboachan's database manager so you can poke around. I'll also set up a Lynxchan instance for you to play with.

Can do.

I have lost control.

I never wanted the boards to turn out this way. I just didn't know what to do. After the moderation team dissolved, I thought that if I just let discussion continue on its own, and let things operate mostly unfettered, and only stepped in to act on the most egregious situations, the site would stay mostly as it was. I never thought that the atmosphere would degrade to this extent. It's happened so slowly over the past two years, that I guess it was easy for me to rationalize that nothing had changed all that much.

But stepping back and looking at things now, I can't really say that Uboachan is still the dark-but-chill hangout that I had idealized. Threads about topics as innocuous as the weather are derailed into flame wars in short order, and attempts at moderation are met with harsh criticism, suggesting that in the absence of consistent vigilance, this sort of perpetually destructive atmosphere has become the expected norm. Conversation has turned sour. This is not an isolated incident, but something that is happening to threads all over the site. The low-key rage that rests in the background of most imageboards has risen to a fever-pitch, making calm and enjoyable discussion all but impossible. I don't think it's something I can fix just by banning a few users, and I don't think that the current rules would clearly justify doing so anyway.

I didn't want Uboachan to become a place where people actually enjoy being hateful. The hate and anger were supposed to be all tongue-in-cheek, just part of the joke, the colors of Uboachan's unique, dark sense of humor. I feel like a lot of our users don't get the joke anymore. We ended up attracting actual racists, evil wizards, inquisitors, the criminally insane, elder gods, and other unsavory characters, exactly the kinds of people I wanted us to avoid. This isn't just another imageboard, above all else it's a Yume Nikki fansite. At least, it was supposed to be.

Honestly, I haven't had the time and energy to put into this place lately. I'm not a NEET anymore. I've been going to college full-time, looking for a job, and trying to build my own future, all while dealing with an all-encompasing social depression that has made me more introverted than ever. I don't talk to people as much anymore, and often when I try to browse Uboachan, my eyes gloss over the posts and I don't really absorb what I'm reading. I really feel like I haven't been paying attention. AsPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

>what counts as a flame war
When people start writing walls of text that have nothing to do with the op and constantly call each other faggots. How desensitized are you to that? If you can't tell what a flame war is, that goes to show how big the problem is.
>what users
This is not a 100 mile per minute board. Every thread sticks in the few consistent user's heads and sours the atmosphere of the entire site. It's palpable. There's not a constant stream of fifty threads to distract from one another.
>You can always just say it to them yourself
That never works. They're too dense to listen if they posted like that in the first place 9/10 times. The state of the site was not fine. If you have used it for a while, you would notice the change too. Arguments and shitposting were exponentially increasing.
>Sure, a stupid moderator can chase away an interesting contributor just because the things they say don't fall in line with the rest
That is such a strawman. This isn't reddit. People don't get shadow banned for not liking a movie or whatever. Some 4cuck ideologue is always going to be abrasive and post nothing of actual value. Anybody that can actually have an original thought and not be a dick is fine. A person like that is less likely to talk about politics or other low-brow shit(janitors talk about it all the time). This site isn't a democracy and it's not a society. It's a discussion/entertainment platform. The site has been chugging along fine until recently. What is your definition of stagnation? I'd rather have site activity plummet and die than have it be replaced with the same shit that's everywhere else.
You don't get it. You aren't invested in ubuu. I'm not going to post anything after this to you because if you don't get it yet, you never will.

I was going to deconstruct those srguments, but since I probably won't get a response either way, I'll just cut to the chase.
>You aren't invested in ubuu. I'm not going to post anything after this to you because if you don't get it yet, you never will.
I am more than invested in Ubuu as a platform for people to exchange ideas and opinions. So even if some those views are unpopular or even downright retarded, so be it, it's a risk you take along with the core concept. If you're looking for a place to socialize with a good atmosphere and whatever else, well, isn't that what things like Discord are for?

Also, way to be conceited and assume that just because I disagree I don't understand your views. Oh well.

>or even downright retarded, so be it, it's a risk you take along with the core concept

Except I never said I was in favor of shitposting.

I've been browsing here on and off for the past 8-9 years, occasionally stopping by every couple weeks. I think what you said about the 'low-key rage in the back of most imageboards' is right. Across all of the places I've gone to they've been infected with a vicious anger and filled with people who view imageboards as their own personal dumping grounds. It's not even that they didn't have shitposters before, but now the shitposters run the entire place and refute any attempt to actually discuss topics at hand.

Even worse they view bans or attempts at quality control as an affront against their person. So they proceed to blow up and shitpost even harder or attempt to drag everyone else down with them. I don't know what can be done about it either because all of these imageboards have a common origin, and shit tends to drip down the sides and spread.

Hopefully you guys can steer out of this storm. It's a rough one.

I think we have all noticed the recent influx of edgy pepe faggots. While I don't think think this warrants any rule changes, I do think a state of emergency is required. I basically want whoever posted these three things to be banned, so as to preserve the sanctity of this board.

No, they're not. /hikki/ user was warned. I don't think there's any hope of moderating /yndd/ right now because I'd have to ban half the users. I'm waiting for people to calm down a little so that exceptionally shitty posts have a more reasonable baseline to stand out from. If that doesn't happen I might have to make more specific rules to judge /yndd/'s low-key ragehate against, or just treat it like another /ot/.

Sei, there's another frog. They've already contaminated multiple threads. Please exterminate.

Came across another one of these assholes in /o/.

All crabs must be exterminated.

I'd most certainly love a hentai/alternative board. Believe me, as much as I LOVE spoilering every smutty image I post, it gets sort of old after a while. On top of that having nowhere to discuss such… "adult" matters is just unclassy on a NSFW-chan. Oh, yeah, Uboachan needs moar dickgirls, too.

this is great

Why'd you bump this?

99% of what you wrote on ubuu are shitposts. You're probably the worst poster on the entire site.

I'll take that title to my grave
