However, reading the thread now you'll see it lost, as you put it, all of its merit and weight. Which is why I'm making a big deal out of it. Perhaps by raising community awareness of this issue on a relatively worthless thread like this one, it can be stopped before more good threads are ruined for no reason

I really like the hair. it's … real. it's fluffy. it has body. it feels like if i went out and touched it i'd feel actual hair. very very good job on that.

IF YOU REALLY CARE ABOUT ANATOMY:
the ears are a smidge high.the top of the lobe should be in line with the eyes, that's an easy visible marker for placement.

you did a really good job on the collar.
the expression is great, and again, that hair is wonderful. it looks so soft and full of BODY! i want to touch it.
the knife has some real good potential, it has some great-looking body, but the handle makes the impression that the blade's supposed to be thicker. right now it looks paper thin. I am not sure what you want out of the knife blade, but both sound pretty super. (generally though, knives have probably at least 1/16 in./2-3 mm thickness, guessing, but it is 100% your call, the greatness of dreams and art about dreams is you can really, make up your own rules, but if you want to be realistic, those are my observations. take them or leave them as you will!)

all in all it's a really well-flowing piece, save something like the thumb- if you fix that, everything will look just absolutely dandy. you did an absolutely FABULOUS job on this, and i would adore seeing your other works, because, really, this is seriously amazing. if you fix that thumb, hell, I'd publish this art as cover art. it looks, seriously, fabulous.

OP is right, but he's poking shit at all the wrong places.

Most people on here are tumblr-toting theory-spouting teenagers, and the amount of namefags and tripfags on this website is ridiculous. There are about 15 ITT alone! While Yume Nikki is a highly subjective work of art and as such is left to interpretation, you need to keep in mind that what you are dealing with here is a fanbase. The bad thing about mixing a highly experimental, subjective work with a fanbase is that a fanboy's/girl's personality is a collective. I think part of the 'fan' mindset is to do with attaching the ideas and themes of whichever work they're fans of to their otherwise empty personalities, which results in them being a bunch of pseudo-intellectuals in that they are able to be praised for even the tiniest of original thoughts due to the underdeveloped personalities and notions of creativity the rest of the fanbase holds.

Everyone here that is simply telling OP to fuck off are prime examples of this; they are in no way contributing to the discussion. I understand what OP is saying, and I agree with him wholeheartedly. To say that he is an elitist goes is nonsense. OP is not 'dooming the board' with a shitty post, he is simply asking a question. Claiming he is an elitist because he questions the quality of the board based on observable posts by its community is heavily blurring the line between standards and respect between users.
