>modify, edit, etc. and submit
>close-ups that obfuscate the subject, blurry shots that don't make sense, despondent views of the lonely lamppost across the street, etc. craziness, are all very good

This is legitimately beautiful. It felt as if I were actually there. It made me tear up. Thank you, even though you posted this almost a year ago.

Made this lad as the player character for my first game, made in rpgmaker. What do you guys think? I'm not very good at art, and I still don't have a name for him, but I think he's alright.

good catch the arms are definitely a little short, well be more careful in the future. And yeah, the first could use a lot more work but I kinda like it like this too. Thank you

You are the second one to tell me it looks like a storybook ilustration but I'm not sure what you mean, do you mean the way it is drawn?

 No.4545

>>4544
Yes, its definitely more in the way its drawn than the subject of the drawing. I cant put my finger on exactly what it is, especially as now I cant actually think of a book that's illustrated like that. I think a lot of its in the face. Sorry I cant be more helpful.

The second picture looks like something out of a Patricia Polacco book.

 No.4548

The thin lining, the out of line coloring, the realistic neck and the very cartoonish face with sharp, pointed details are what makes the second picture look like a children's illustration. The first picture is well-proportioned and no one feature is more exaggerated than the other. It's very balanced and looks a tiny bit like Satoshi Kon's style. The facial expression is realistic, but subtle, and Mado's face has soft look to it, as apposed to the jagged and jarring face on the second picture.

 No.4549

They look really good, really like your style. I do agree with anons that they feel unfinished. If the hair in the second image was more detailed it would make it even better. I like the shadowing in the second and damn, Mado has some really nice boots in the first.
Hoping you'll post more.

Holy balls calm down. Please keep discussions outside of /ot/ civil. This can keep being a conversation about art if it stops being a conversation about an argument about a conversation. Everyone please take a step back and breathe for a second.

Reminder that even Picasso's contorted proportions are world-famous, and he was a master at "realistic" still life portraiture, which does require some exaggeration of both perspective and chiascuro to achieve the desired effect.

Point being that all art is interpretive, that everyone sees the world differently, and so naturally everyone is going to draw differently. It's a good thing.

And the best thing is to just keep making art!

 No.4497

Picasso learned the rules before he broke them though. He knew how to make something that was unconventional look good because he understood the conventional. That's part of why his work is considered revolutionary. Just saying.
