I don't think so. He may be somewhat pathetic, but he's someone who's brave enough to repeatedly put himself out there and try his best. He's the kind of person who never stops growing. I think that's something to look up to.

Any link to good blogs about life in 'actual' Japan? Please no Danny Choo Akihabara trip-tier shit; I'm looking more for stuff along the lines of 'my daily life in the middle of Bumfuck, Ibaraki'. Bonus points if it's not some JET loser, but an actual Japanese.

Wait, you want it in english, or Dai Nippun?
Because if it's the later, with just skimming over some japanese blogs odds are that you will find some daily-life-posting attentionwhore.

A japanese person writing in english about their life in japan would be pretty weird. Right, devil's proof, I can't say there is none, but I don't think the hopes for that are really that high.

Interesting question that deserves an answer. It's not a blog, but the television channel TV Japan is the best answer I can think of. My Japanese grandma loves this stuff and shows me her DVR recordings of it sometimes. The channel is mostly Japanese-language but some things are in English.

So yeah you get standard fare like NHK News and some movies/dramas/anime, but there are also some really nice daily-life programs. My grandma showed me stuff like a Japanese island populated with tons of cats that basically own the place, a subway lost-and-found desk and its back room so full of random crap it looks like department store warehouse, and a part of Tokyo with so many foreigners it's starting to feel like New York City. Also, there's another program called Cool Japan which keeps up on random stuff, anything from stationary shops to ridiculously real-looking sushi made from sugar.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Japan shows the channel availability on various TV providers, you might have it already without realizing it.

What are some anime movies you enjoyed? I quite liked Wolf Children and this other one where a girl kept meeting up with this spirit boy who wore a mask during the summer as she grew up but couldnt touch him or hed disappear

I cant remember the name but it was really good, I cried until I felt completely devoid of any and all liquids

Dude, c'mon, considering /n/ is x200 times worse than whatever booger does, I don't see what's bad with her posting whatever she wants.
If anything, it was funnier to see her posts than to read posers pretending to be neet/asocial/out-of-society-heroes attention-whoring just to read 2 seconds "no i actually go to college & im not virgin and i haev frends xd but im really depresed and want to kel meself".

I finally got around to watching this! It was beautiful!
I was almost an hour and a half into it when I got called down to dinner.
"Man, I was just watching the weirdest anime movie up there, mom! There's these cute cats on a train in space going to heaven, and there's lots of religious imagery, and the whole movie is really quiet and ambient and trippy."
"Is it dubbed?"
"Huh? Well, yeah I am watching it in English, why?"
"great! Sounds like my kind of anime. Put it on down here after we eat."
WOW. Mom actually ASKED to watch an anime, just because of the description. It was a little weird starting the entire movie over when I was near the ending, but it was cool that mom wanted to see it! She alternated between going "aww~", laughing and saying she would have liked to smoke weed while watching this movie if it was the 70's again, and saying "wait, this looks familiar…have I seen this before?". She sang along with the old cat lady when she started singing Hymn 306. It was a little creepy.

I had a nice night with this movie! It was very sad but very beautiful. It had the same haunting quality as Angel's Egg, but it was a lot more hopeful.

My mom's interest in these things comes and goes. Every once in a while she'll get an anime itch. But a lot of the time she gets annoyed if I talk about it too much. Sometimes after a glass of wine, she'll start saying things like "lets watch Mushishi, that Ginko guy is hot".

Underrated/Unpopular VNs that you enjoyed?

I quite enjoyed Aselia the Eternal.. it's the first VN I actually bought and it was pretty nice to play. Too bad about the cut h-scenes, though.

 No.894

I need to read more… all the ones I've read were recommended in their threads and I haven't really lurked that much as to pick one which qualifies as underrated or unpopular.

Also, what did you enjoy the most about Aselia?

 No.899

>>894
I liked the battles and the development of some of the characters. Aselia's relationship with the protagonist was especially interesting to watch develop over time.

It's a pretty long game (easily over 100 hours if you want to 100% it) but if you're fine with that, it's definitely a good play!

Eh, seems fairly nice. Now I don't have much time with college and other projects, but I'm putting it in my "Must play" list to check it out later.

I've been watching a lot of NHK World lately. There's always 30 minutes of news starting at the top of every hour, but when it's not news time they air programs about various aspects of Japanese culture (food, architecture, anime and manga, I saw something today about this British lady living in Kyoto). It's in English, and if it is't available through your cable/satellite provider then you can watch online at http://www3.nhk.or.jp/nhkworld/w/movie/ for free.
