turns out i was right it wasnt an issue with the HDMI cable, it was a software issue i had to manually download/update all my drivers.
issue now being the sound doesnt play from the monitor only the laptop, but hey at least theres pcture now.

For me it's
- dekstop PC (main computer, for games, inet browsing, whatever)
- small laptop, ideally Dell Latitude or Thinkpad X-series (for watching Animu in bed)
- old office computer (as home server, would be replaced with banana pi any time soon, because of power efficiency)
- good headphones (I'm not an audiophile, but I've been using 2 euro in-ear headphones from the gas station for months now and an upgrade is long overdue)
- good, but not too expensive keyboard (I have an old lenovo keyboard, that lasted years, despite me chain-smoking at the computer. The keys feel good too)
>>8248
For me it's 1. Having more than one screen makes me nervous, but I can understand why one would not be satisfied with just one screen.

 No.8489

i used to have a laptop but I gave it to my youngest brother and the only thing I have is a shitty phone and some anime figures.
I also have no savings and my parents won't give a cent to me because they hate me.

solid list.
>Having more than one screen makes me nervous
understandable, for me having 2 things going at once helps me concentrate E.G. movie or show on one device while playing vidya or browsing the internet on the other.
>i used to have a laptop but I gave it to my youngest brother
based brother move.
>I also have no savings

Lovely, i love CRT's so much, and seeing this photos brings me some kind of comfort. I persoanlly think there is a charm on CRT's that has been now lost with modern screens. I remember having more respect to the family computer that i do now with my own PC lol.

Thats good i actually remember these, its cringe when zoomers start y2k/lain posting

 No.8592

I dug out old 2004 PC and laptop from the closet and it looks like everything works. Is it even worth setting up a CRT moniter in 2024? I miss those chunky old beige and black boxes but do they have any use outside of retro gaming?

 No.8593

I’m in my mid 20s and my first pc was a 98 beige tower. I grew up with vhs and cassettes. It’s genuine nostalgia for some of us y’know.

The laptop is surprisingly functional with a damaged but usable screen. Boots to Windows XP fine. I even remembered my password. I guess I'm going to throw a Linux distro on it but which one to pick?

The only thing I hate more than nostalgia googles and "aesthetic" posters are people who whine about "Gen Z" as if its a meaningful label and not something invented by marketers to sell you shit.

agreed, but some of the zoomers i know grew up poor or in rural areas so they grew up with older tech.
>>8592
hell yeah, use it for watching retro films and playing retro games.

my oh my how time does fly, this thread is almost a year old!
i finally placed an order for an adapter.
im thinking about getting another monitor, i love my 27 inch benq zowie 165hz IPS monitor.
it makes my other 27 inch 75hz monitor look like shit in comparison.
especially since im gonna upgrade from an i-5 / GTX 1660 to AMD ryzen 7 with a 4070.
tempted to get a 30 or 32 inch monitor, but ill likely get another 27 to keeps things even.

waow!!! this your puter? i would love to have a dedicated setup, unfortunately i live out of a shithole house with my parents taking care of an arboretum for a weird pacifist christian group. They're very nice, but they have a weird anarchist way of deciding what happens with the premises, so very little has happened and now im stuck in Australian heat with no aircon and a room that used to be a porch. So getting a nice setup going is the least of my worries.

so im gonna get one of these.
also attached as mentioned here >>>/ot/27486 watching watchmen ultimate cut n playing vidya.

last but not least im hoping christmas brings me more tech.

Steam Deck is comfy and I love it, just wish I had something a bit smaller for on the go playing but I love just how much power the steam deck has and how it can run everything I need it to.

I'm considering buying a tablet with a stylus since its so much easier to write Hanzi or in Arabic with those than type. But I have no idea if I should purchase one or not? I mean, they all look like garbage. You can't install your own OS on them and they a glorified e readers or gigantic smartphones.
