>>17343And also because they (namely Yugamineena, who is still active to this day) were afraid the Yume 2kki team would ban Western fans from ever contributing again in the future (God, I fucking wish)
>>17344>>17345I was curious about this myself and lurked around the 5ch production thread a while back, IIRC the most I saw was a generic-ass "Mr. Rio and Mr. Lemniscate will no longer be updating their maps" without any explanation, which sounds about right. Absolutely fucking rotten people.
No.17347
>>17346>Eastern devs say that Rio and lemniscate will no longer update their maps>no further explanation They most likely were like this because they figured it was their problem not theirs and figured the only solution was to just say that they were banned from working on 2kki and that’s it
However at the same time I also wonder why the fuck they didn’t nuke their worlds from the game did they just figure that people would separate the art from the artist or something if so that’s kind of a stupid and lazy decision ngl
No.17348
>>17344>>17346I see the japanese making fannart of his NPCs sometimes and I think an NPC in one of his worlds eventually became a wearable mask now so either they don't know the full story or they don't care.
>>17347>However at the same time I also wonder why the fuck they didn’t nuke their worlds from the game did they just figure that people would separate the art from the artist or something if so that’s kind of a stupid and lazy decision nglI mean you kind of answered that one yourself, no matter how many temper tantrums wataru has had people still cream themselves over his worlds despite how much he has gone out of his way to fuck the game over.
I personally find the switch up on Rio's shitty-dollar-store-wataru worlds from the western side absolutely hysterical considering the same people that now scoff at them dick rode them to hell and back just before that.

>>17348>I personally find the switch up on Rio's shitty-dollar-store-wataru worlds from the western side absolutely hysterical considering the same people that now scoff at them dick rode them to hell and back just before that.Well, before wataru came back a lot of users didn’t have a point of comparison or reference for Rio’s work, so that certainly explains some of it. When comparing the knock-off maps to the originals, there’s a pretty clear difference in quality. Wataru’s maps have the same kind of post-industrial and stagnant water aesthetics as Rio, but wataru’s actual level design is significantly better. His work was very good at creating the illusion of scale while (with a couple of exceptions like Cosmic world; they can’t all be winners) being mostly pretty straightforward to navigate and content being distributed appropriately (large maps have a lot of stuff on them spread out, small maps don’t have a lot of negative space, that sort of thing).
Rio straight up did not understand how to execute this effect so he actually went and created the illusory space and it makes all his maps overly large and cumbersome to navigate with nothing to see and a lack of a real sense of progression through a location (compare how the Abandoned Town and the Apartments have distinct zones whereas Rio’s maps are mostly homogenous).
Additionally, seeing that most of Rio’s work was extremely derivative probably also dampened the enthusiasm, even if people don’t know about the grooming shit. It’s like watching a “safe” sequel late in a franchise and then watching the original and discovering like 95% of everything that’s cool about it is just copied from the older work. It just feels empty.
Also, Abandoned Hospital is like a bottom 3 map in not just 2kki but like any fangame I’ve played. It genuinely floors me that 2kki still refuses to implement any kind of oversight to prevent people from creating stuff that mechanically awful.

>>17347>why the fuck they didn’t nuke their worlds from the game did they just figure that people would separate the art from the artist or something if so that’s kind of a stupid and lazy decision nglKnowing how Rio named Wintry Clifs and Tomb of Velleities after the victim's suggestions, possibly to score some points with them and advance the grooming process, it's kinda hard to separate the art from this whole thing
No.17360
>>17357Absolutely, this is why that mindset infuriates me. I know this happened years ago and this might be beating a dead horse at this point; but god damn, the impact he had on the game was DIRECTLY RESPONSIBLE for this grooming shit. When you travel through Rio's worlds in 2kki you are viewing content that was used to establish a pedophile into a position of power. Rio was intentionally using his popularity from his involvement in Yume 2kki to make his victim feel special and lure him in deeper. I don't know how this is so difficult for people to understand. "Separate the art from the artist" my ass, shit's fucked.
No.17361
The lesson to be learned from this all is: People putting their shitty mspaint worlds in 2kki matters more than the victims of pedophiles.

To all potential groomers, this means if you groom hard enough, your legacy will live on forever thanks to the power of stockholm syndrome!

its artistically pleasing and it sticks to a lot of the same cool mesoamerican motifs yume nikki did, you might honestly like it even if it is kind of still dotted with the pitfalls of a modern fangame

>>17385>yuh, i was talking to the dev on *cough* discord, and they seemed to have a pretty clear vision for the future. wonder what happened?Disillusionment, burn out, or just moving on to other things, could be anything.
Most fangames are spur of the moment passion projects that almost never make it to end phase because of how time and resource consuming they turn out to be depending on both your skill set and the standard you set out for them, resulting in either 5-year-at-best tier infrequent updates or straight up abandonment.
Part of the reason people still bother with 2kki despite how negative discussion of new versions has gotten is because it at least updates frequently and gives something for people to chew on(and well the online makes it extremely accesible and easy to pick up)
>it did a lot of stuff with mesoamerican imagery, which, despite being one of the coolest parts of yume nikki, isn't really iterated upon in fangames.I've seen a lot of fangames that tried to recreate it with various degrees of success/failure, the ones that failed normally just copied the original game without knowing why they were there and how they applied to Madotsuki's dream world specially, Yume Gatari is the most egregious example that comes to mind of this.

I gotta say I quite like how expansive and random 2kki is. Granted some worlds do just suck but i find don't often feel that way. I mean YN had tons of worlds with just images scrolling on a blank floor and a few items around. I do prefer the more complex worlds with more doors and rooms/areas but its not always better. But to me 2kki feels the most like an actual dream. The art is all over the place and so is the vibes of the worlds. I don't think any new editions will ever change it as my favorite game. At the end of the day I see most versions as their on game to explore. Its kind of just a bonus of having multiple versions of the same game. That's how i've always seen it at least.
Maybe I've just not played it continuously enough/seen many of the worlds yall speak of as slop.

>>17460For all the shit it gets both literally and figuratively it is still the biggest fangame out there in terms of content and variety because of it's nature as a collabarative project and it's longevity.
I'd go as far as saying that it's dethroned .flow at this point popularity wise even if it's just because of the online.
The amount of fannart it gets these days speaks for itself I suppose.
