Obviously your waking life requires improvement.
Forgetting dreams can be remedied by keeping a dream diary. I find whipping out a notebook to be a bit of a chore every morning, so I use my (dumb)smartphone to record my dreams.
You could use death, destruction and general misery as a cue to lucidity and a stepping stone to better dreams. Be a little more aware about recurring themes in your dreams, it'll help you reshape them.>>10
I would advise to keep eating cheese. It doesn't give "knightmares", it makes your dreams more vivid.
