What the fuck is that noise and why does that keep playing the whole time. I'm watching a trailer, not rubbing my dick.
You know, i've tried to stay positive. "It's not a pachinko at least!", I said. "It's not another anime! We're getting an actual game!! This is gonna be so cool!!"
This trailer is really not something I wanted to see.
I want the game to be faithful to the original concept of Yume Nikki, which was abstract adventuring in dreamscapes. Nothing made sense necessarily but there was character and emotion involved.
Yes, having the game put into a different perspective is a great idea, but after this trailer, I can definitely see why people are concerned about the "soul" of Yume Nikki being preserved.
It's just trying too hard to be something it isn't supposed to be.
Was that Monoko?
What is she doing outside the White Desert
The only thing to worry about is the music, though that could just be for the trailer. Otherwise it's just as cryptic and vague as all the other promos.
weird, still don't know how to feel
i at least appreciate the vagueness and kyuukyuu-kun
I'm worried that there's no Aztec/Paracas imagery near Kyukyu. We haven't seen any of that in all the screenshots so far. I'd hate it if they got rid of that aesthetic.
Trailer and the recent screenshot made me think that maybe Madotsuki has a small chance of sharing her dreams with Monoe everytime she goes to bed. Might be cool.
I don't like how it gives certain characters more importance simply because they are human or popular with the fandom. It's as weird as making Masada a major character in the manga or Poniko in the light novel. There are other NPCs in the original game with just as much if not more presence compared to Monoe, but characters like Hat and scarf girl, Mars or the little following ghost can fuck off apparently
Pain Blob of all things has been featured a lot though.
You can see them here.
This artwork was removed from the official website a few hours after the reveal for some reason.
Still, it's really worrying that they aren't present near kyuukyuu.
Unless people here end up actually liking it, it's a torrent and shit fury onto after playing for me.
>>735>Still, it's really worrying that they aren't present near kyuukyuu.
Given all the crazy shit they're doing with Monoe we should not expect them to bother recreating areas 'faithfully'. It's a re-imagining, not a remake.
Might be a stretch but maybe there are various graphic settings?
I'll admit, I kinda laughed at this trailer. The way the little blob rolled is just silly. Plus Kyukyukun looks even more like a dildo now. >>715
Yeah, I'm not a fan of that either. Granted, Monoe is my favorite human npc, but I don't want her to take a lot of the spotlight like Poniko did in the light novel. (Actually, Poniko probably took most of it) This is Madotsuki's dreams, after all.
regardless how the game turns out. I can't wait to see the new fan art that will spawn from this. the music and art fans made over the years are something I hold as dear as the game itself.
Speaking of which, is the booru still getting new stuff? or is there a better source besides twitter I should watch for new art?
I'm not digging the direction this is taking.
i don't know how to feel about this. i'm honestly excited about the game but this trailer is… bad. it feels sloppy, like something that was slapped together with hardly any effort. if they can't put some more effort into a trailer, what is the game going to be like?
Comparing the honestly amazing concept art to the sloppy in-game graphics I'm kinda wishing they made a fanmade VN instead.
At least it wouldn't had made that much of a fuss
Whatever happened to utmost respect?
Not only that, everything is done so lazily. For a game being made by a company that specializes in translating video games, they're reeeally doing a good job for Kikiyama's seminal release. A reveal trailer is supposed to reveal the most exciting parts of your game without spoiling it, and if this is what your game has to offer, it's going to be boring as hell. How are these idiots going to handle unorthodox-looking areas like the Graffiti and Block Worlds or the White Desert if the areas they've shown look like hot garbage?
Now I will say, the one of the only good things about this shit is the concept art. It looks pretty damn good and I wish they put that same amount of effort into the game like they did with the artwork. The other is that we might see some concept shit that Kikiyama made while developing the game.
>>748>Comparing the honestly amazing concept art
Generic-ass anime shit?
Oh what, I can't post about what I think of the game? It's shit. I'm sorry if you can't handle that being said.
Fuck off, his are legit concerns.
I am trying my best to stay positive, and not judge until the game is actually out, but every time they release new information it looks more and more like they didn't understood what the original game was about.
I thought at least the music would be fine after seeing the first trailer, but after today's trailer I am even worried about that.
Anyway, I think it's best to hold off with the opinions, there are just 3 weeks left, it's better to just wait.
sort of branching off what you said about catering to youtubers and Ironic Weebs- ive thought about this and i dont think that approach works here, even if that happened to be the intention. this re-imagining has some odd design choices, and there seems to be two main opinions about them already- it looks like shit, or it has a weird intentional dreamcast/ps1 graphic scheme that still likely wouldnt appeal to a majority. despite possible character changes like you described with monoe, i still think this game would be too hard to turn into the next "big thing" just based on how it looks already. even if this game is garbage, i feel like the game being garbage is the worst case scenario
and yeah, though the direction this game is moving in makes me skeptical with each new announcement, i still feel their hearts are in the right place with this project. basically, it could very well be bad, but i cant imagine itd be embarrassingly awful, either. maybe mediocre or just alright
and also>Kyuukyuu-kun looks more like a fucking Muppet instead of a glowing, long blob
made me laugh thank you

I'll scroll your sides, buddy
This whole thing reminds me of that utterly shitty lucky star sequel ova series that everybody got excited for before immediately not caring in the slightest when it came out. Japs have a kind of bad track record when it comes to, "homages". Maybe that's too big of a generalization, but I've seen it happen a lot. mighty number 9
It reminds me of Zero Time Dilemma
Never heard of it. What's the similarity?
>>744>is the booru still getting new stuff?
It's pretty unactive. You are better off hunting for fanart on your own.
Made by the author to "appeal to new players" and used terrible 3d models that looked unnatural and bad. Also shat all over the legacy of the previous games in the series
Thank you for saying everything I've been thinking about this ever since I found out about it. The worst thing is that even though the original game will always be there as the YN I know and love, its reputation will go down the drain thanks to this new thing - you'll never be able to say that you like Yume Nikki again without someone immediately associating it with Yume Nikki Yume Nikki.
And judging by the "Kikiyama themselves" bit, my guess is that the approval process went like this:>hey Kikiyama can we make fangame (through e-mail)>sure whatever stop bothering my about yume nikki fuck>ok thanks>>754
But anon, REIMAGINE!!
>>798> legit concerns
They aren't though, it's irrational ranting
>It seems like they're taking out anything unique about the game and turning it into sterile garbage so that way weebs and e-celebs can digest it better. Hell it seems like there will be a fucking story. A story in a game that isn't meant to have one. What the fuck.
We know nothing about a story yet. Nothing. There 'could' be one, just like there 'could' be a Michael Jackson cameo complete with voice-acting done before his death.
I am not defending the game but the entire post jumped to conclusions and automatically assumed the project would be complete shit. It could be! But we don't know enough yet to honestly assume it will be.
Looks pretty dang stinky
How a company chooses to present a game says a lot about the game itself. While that may not always be the case, we've seen this time and time again. Mighty number nine had a shitty trailer, and the game was shitty. Sanic boom played like shit at the expo, and the game was shit. This trailer definitely isn't the worst thing ever, but parts of it are cause for concern.
And that's all perfectly fine concerns, I agree with you.
I think for me at least a big cause of alarm was the really shitty music. If that's seriously the in-game OST it's already dead in the water.
I am also hesitant about the new game, particularly if it's in 2.5D, but the graphical styling reminds me a little of weird-looking 90s CGs, which seems like the only appropriate way to translate Yume Nikki into the third dimension IMO.
Yes you're right, but as someone else said in the other thread, the style should be a bit more minimalistic/cartoony, it looks too realistic looking at the screenshot.
I am a little concerned about the graphics and such, but I do have hope for this game. Sure, the actual gameplay in the gameplay trailer was a discouraging (like KyuuKyuu-kun, what the fuck?), But for all we know, the graphics may not finalized, yet. The elements Yume Nikki had may be still be there, with a new coat of paint, with additional things (weather they're better or worse, has yet to be seen, though). Plus, there are a lot of games, where they had good trailers, but ended up being absolute shit, and vise-versa.
But we'll just have to wait and see…
At least the YN Metroidvania looked cute and cartoony. This one looks like a bad 3D game that tries to be too realistic.
They replayed YN before starting the project but apparently didn't notice or care about the fact Madotsuki's skirt goes down below her knees in the original.
Gotta have that sex-appeal. That's what yn is all about, right? I actually hope they make a Madotsuki body pillow. In all seriousness, that detail might seem insignificant, but these peoples' job is to pay attention to these things, so when they ignore something, it says something.>>874
The left one confuses and worries me. There wasn't any high school in yn, right? There was also that picture taken from the interior of a hallway with Monoko. The left one is actually nice, but tells little about the actual game.
Well, it's been obvious they're trying to push this school scenario for a while. The first trailer ended with the ding dong of school chimes, so.
Would it be a stretch to assume they might throw in more anime cliches in to appeal to Otaku? At the very least that probably means they aren't targeting a western audience, despite the majority of the community being here, I think. I'm getting a faint taste of mediocrity and meh on my tongue. A big whatever.
>>878>despite the majority of the community being here, I think
Oh no, no no no, YN is bigger in the east.
I don't know if they're pandering otaku or not; I mean they haven't shown anything, but the cries in the first video, the chimes, and that scene with monoko have been rubbing me the wrong way too.
Shoving in a high school seems like pandering to me.
You guys got it wrong, they're going to put a school chapter in to explain how Madotsuki became a hikkikomori with 4 hours of cutscenes.
Like those games from the 90's with endless scenes of FMV?
>>879>and that scene with monoko
Are you talking about the trailer or did I misa something?
Lurk through /yndd/ and you'll find it quickly.
"Hi! My name is Madotsuki and this is my school, where I go to the Dream Diary Club! I hope Uboa senpai notices me"
*Overly happy opening music starts blasting*
Fanart doesn't count. This is an, "official", product.
>>876>In all seriousness, that detail might seem insignificant, but these peoples' job is to pay attention to these things, so when they ignore something, it says something.
Her sprite doesn't fucking have knees
Show me one piece of fan art that has a long skirt on Madotsuki.
Oh wait, you can't, because you're just a troll.
It also looks better, in my opinion. But I also agree it's a very stupid thing to criticize, though.
There are more of these by the way, if you've never found any you just haven't tried.
You forgot to use the spoiler image button.
Please post more old fanart.
It should be apparent that a lot of people are just bitching for the sake of it.
I don't take much issue with the open eyes either, because it seems the way they're being used is reasonable.
I'm pretty sure when she's awake, her eyes are open, but in the dream world they're closed.
If you looked at one of the Twitter account's previous avatar's, it was one of Madotsuki holding her umbrella effect, with her eyes closed, which I assume means that when she's asleep they're always closed.
This is going against everything the fanbase has assumed but nothing in the game outright implies her eyes have to be closed.
Look at Monoe's sprite here. Her eyes are drawn the same way as Madotsuki's, but we know hers are 'meant' to be opened. Like everything else in the game Madotsuki's face is up to interpretation.
What I like in the YNDD art is that her eyes are sort of half-lidded, which reflects the sprite's eyes.
Her eyes are closed, even when she is awake.
I don't have an issue with the character design itself, what I hate it how ugly the 3D model looks based on the few screenshots released so far (despite the fact that a game with a big Mado instead of the small one I'm used to feels rather weird).
I don't know, it kind of feels that they're trying to make this game feel "serious" instead of a simple and weird dream world. There's no way it would be impossible to keep that feeling in 3D.
We haven't actually gotten any good look at Madotsuki's face yet. It seems they might be using distant shots and lighting to keep the features vague.
I think her eyes are really cute here actually.
she looks like Ellen Page.
Dream Diary is the sequel to The Last of Us. Also Mado is in the Ramones and is a lesbian, just like Ellen Page in The Last of Us.
>>1005>Oh shit, me drugs are being stolen.
Looks like someone is stealing her drugs or something, or she is in some weird drugs that make her dream some really weird shit.
