Now that the dust has settled and the game is 6 years old. How did you feel about it?.

I really tried to complete it months ago, but just ended up leaving it. At least some soundtracks are good, but the game itself is not so engaging like I was expecting. I also glitched out through the floor 3 times doing this puzzle, falling into a endless void.

I played the thing when it came out and a few more times after update. I liked it. I can understand people dunking on it because they were probably expecting it to be a Yume Nikki remake in 3D, and as a remake - it's a bad game, but as it's own thing related to YN - it's good.

I remember there being an actual remake years ago (picrel) but I never finished it so I'm not sure if it's actually complete. That being said though, I remember it being a very decent 3D recreation. Not fully 3D but I'll take that over YNDD's weird "realistic" models, those just look weird to me.

In regard to the game itself I was pretty neutral on it. It's not the worst thing in the world but it's also not as good as the original. If anything it felt more like an attempt at turning YN into something more accessible, but I don't think even the normies cared for this game. I'll admit the art was very good though.

It's called Yume Nikki 3D, and I personally don't remember it being treated it as Yume Nikki remake, because it also has a bunch of areas that doesn't exist in original game. Which doesn't make it a bad fangame though.

I didn't see all the models close-up, but I've tinkered with Madotsuki model in SFM and it looks funny to me. And I remember it having A LOT of polygons on her butt for whatever reason.

I think peoples' problem wasn't that it's a bad fan game, it's that it was an insult. It wasn't made by fans (no matter what they say) yet it was touted as official and cost money. If it just came from a random fan for free, I still wouldn't play it, but I would appreciate the effort.

Post your mado sfm masterpieces.

Ahaha, devs moulding it to perfection.

Wasn't there a nude madotsuki model in the game files at some point? Or was that fanmade? I swear I remember seeing something like that at some point around the time the game came out.

Wasn't it just a screenshots of someone messing with her model in Blender?

Could be. I remember seeing it without context so I assumed it was in the actual game.

I just remember seeing those screenshots in Uboacord. Too bad they're gone now, I'd like to see them again.

Honestly I still haven't played even though I've been interested in trying it out. I do not like mado's realistic model (they should've went with something more anime-equivalent or rpg-like imo) but the game itself looks alright yet more puzzle psych-horror than exploration-based. I also refuse to believe that Kadokawa somehow got in contact with Kikiyama before Uboachan was able to, but somehow Toby Fox did too so who knows if it's really Kikiyama but that always seemed really off to me that someone this elusive just pops out of nowhere. If there is one conspiracy theory I truly believe in, I believe it would be that Kadokawa bullshitted getting Kikiyama and that the real Kikiyama was never found. It makes sense that a creator who is this elusive wouldn't care or go through legal trouble to fight an impersonator

I agree and I think Toby got Kadokakiyama'd too. It's possible that he found him through high level gaming industry connections (he did play smash bros at Sakurai's house) but I think it's way more likely that Famitsu got the contact from Kadokawa. Would the real Kikiyama even have any way to prove it's him?

Assuming he still has access to either his old email account or his website, yes. Otherwise, things get a lot more complicated.

Thats another thing that bugs me. If it was really him, why is there no updates on his website besides a ad banner for Dream Dairy that some people have claimed could've been automated (as it has for some other random ads before, mostly for rpg maker)? The whole situation is confusing and just makes me wonder. I'd like to believe Kikiyama did at least approve but really I honestly want to know just how involved in Dream Dairy he actually was. Interviews with one of the composers of Dream Dairy said they didnt even get feedback from Kikiyama and speculates maybe only 2-3 other people even met or spoke with him while working on the project.

It's just too bizarre.

If Kikiyama was barely involved then does this make DD a commercial fangame?

It definitely doesn't seem like it was Kikiyama's game, so I guess it's up to your interpretation. Him having barely any contact with the devs and composers just makes me think he just greenlit the project, added a monster design, and just told them "go nuts" if he was even involved at all. There is so much strange oddities surrounding Dream Dairy's development and I wonder if the team comprising it was just people kadokawa threw together who only had basic understanding of Yume Nikki. In terms of those prospects, the team did an incredible job given the limited understanding but that still doesn't account for other oddities like AQUILA, who's a composer nobody has any information on and speculated to be Kikiyama. If they aren't Kikiyama, who are they? More over why is there so much mystique surrounding them?
