im trying to reasonably think as to why there are so many. It's a little odd.

There's a large and active hydroelectric dam operating in that lake. Isn't it possible that the dam produces some sort of RFI/EMF that could've messed up the cameras google used?

Black squares are added to google earth images to cover up sensitive information. Allegedly, this is because they don't want "terrorists" from using google earth to scout and collect intel. Israel used to have a ton of these black spots to stop Hamas and Hezbollah using them. It turned out to be a dumb idea because a black spot was a sure fire way of knowing there was something to hide there so the whole thing doesn't really work.

>>1868Yeah there's nothing spooky about it. Here's a public list of censored sites:

Update from OP: thanks for the replies <3
Half of the rectangles got covered over recently by some newer (normal-looking) images.
It's probably a bug, but what kinda program does these pix go thru that would cause this? Again, it seems to recognise terrain as none of them touch land.

>>1883Which area exactly where you searching? What were you looking for? It would help to know where on the map you found these black squares.

>>1886They covered all of them over now with new satellite pics, you can't see them anymore. I caught it back when half of them were still visible (just after
>>1883 methinks) and you could just zoom a bit and see them everywhere.
I know someone on IRC who recorded a couple of quick videos on the mobile app of the whole thing back when it was live, I'll post catbox links if they still have it.

>>1913i live in aus, freaky stuff. our military is super lame though, takes themselves far too seriously. but if it is milit., weird that they'd cover up the lake, of all things. there's something deeper here anons, i can smell it

>>1914>The Australian government has decided that images of sensitive areas are not a risk, due to poor level of detail.holy SHIT.
it's not aus gov.
it's not military.

As promised in

https://files.catbox.moe/phfbkw.mp4In the meantime I found this reddit thread of a very similar thing happening in mainland Australia
https://www.reddit.com/r/googlemapsshenanigans/comments/wnzu7l/if_you_search_up_limestone_coast_on_google_earth/The images won't load to me thanks to reddit's VPN blocking but I suspect it's the same thing. One comment basically claims it's an image processing glitch with super bright/reflective light sources, which honestly seems the most sensible explanation, but I still want to believe.

Bump, very interesting. Google Earth Pro has a feature, where you can go back in time. Might try this and post about results later.

On first glance there doesn't seem much going on and on second not much either. Just like
>>1917 I'm inclinded to think it was just a bug, that got fixed.
No.1920
>>1919well, if we've ruled out aus gov, and it's otherwise vanished, probably is just a glitch. Still doesn't explain the censoring of the houses in
>>1846, unless the roofs were super bright or whatever. I also wanna believe, anons.
