Why shouldn't you be? DOOM is like the god of Hip Hop. JDilla was always fresh too. Passin me by by the pharcyde was my favorite song until I heard Raid by madvillain. I never liked common though. He always seemed like more of a spoken word guy than a rapper. But you know who you should check out? 9th Wonder. 9th Wonders beats are fucking fresher than ziplocs.
