Hm. I don't know the exact definition of DIY, but if you take a doll and modify it yourself, then that seems pretty do-it-yourselfy to me.
Either way, doll moding seems pretty cool; starting out with one thing and making something almost completely different and all.
The only doll moding I ever did was melting plastic figures over a heater. XP
