I think the cone and the slow eating of ice cream makes it better. It makes it feel special and lets you appreciate every bite more. Eating the cone after is like a second treat and it feels clean and concluding to make the container disappear instead of having to throw away some plastic or wash residue from the side of the cup down the sink. The unique form and the little bit of extra focus you need to pay makes eating a cone of ice cream an event rather than just a desert. I don't have ice cream memories from my childhood to bring back, but it does bring visions of A childhood playing in on the beach.
