I know some guys are so stricken with dem rose tinted goggles nowadays, and I've got my own old sucker-shows, but I recently found out some modern toons have actually gotten really good as of late, post-Gravity Falls at least.

The Owl House, Amphibia, Invincible, Big City Greens to name a few

One con is that they can never get like more than 3 seasons thanks to networks coz they ain't "consistently marketable". And you won't like 15% of TOH if you can't handle representation. It's not really in-your-face buzzwords though. (Unlike Q-Force. Fuck Q-Force.)

I hate story driven shows. I was like 25 when adventure time came out and already had "nostalgia glasses", but I fucking loved it. But then it stopped being as episodic and some of the story team went on to make their own shows, that are all storydriven. Disney has a new cartoon coming out this october, about a girl and ghost voiced by dana snyder. I'm definitely gonna watch that, but apparently that's gonna have some kind of plotline too. Why? Is it mandatory to have a storyline for some weird marketing reason or what?

To be fair, Owl House is mostly episodic except for the first and last episode. There was barely any set-up and things just happen. I guess most creators feel that there needs to be a narrative with a set-up and epic conclusion to make art. eg. The Last Airbender

I think the main reason why so much shit is story driven is because they don't really have room to not focus on the story coz they don't get renewed for shit, so most of the serial episodes get shoved down the backburner as 'excessive'

Keep in mind Adventure Time had like 10 seasons
