No.1461
Oh man, this looks awesome so far. Which version of RPG Maker are you working in for this?
No.1465
Seems like RMXP. I'm anxious to see this, played After Man before. And this guy does great games from what I've seen. ^^
No.1466
>>1465Yeah it's RMXP, i find spriting a bit less restricting in XP, with opacity and stuff, which is why i use it.
This game will probably be a bit more traditional YN clone than After Man but i'll try to make the exploring interesting, with some unique areas.
No.1467
I'm not too sure how much I like the story, but darn do those screen shots look cool.
*interested*
No.1469
Definitely, some of the best graphics I've seen in a YN-style game. Looking forwards to it!
No.1470
The story is a bit of a work in progress to be honest, but then again some games have pretty much zero story.
Glad ya think it looks good though, i usually try to pack as much stuff in one area as i can and sometimes it gets a bit crowded. Wasn't so sure nexus was a hit but if /fg/ thinks it looks good i guess all is well.

I made a tumblr site/blog/thingy/whatever it is. Feel free to visit it, it's basically got nil stuff on it, except my old games and a few screenshots from this game. Either way, it would make me all fuzzy inside seeing visit it.
http://owlgames.tumblr.com/ No.1592
And here's the first release. The 4 starting dream worlds main layout is completed. No effects yet, we'll see if i implement some later. Anyway, this version pretty much gives you a feel for how the game will look and sound, but that's pretty much it since only the 4 starting worlds are completed.
I'd be happy to hear some criticism, both good and bad.
http://www.mediafire.com/?bil0p3ymdcozmb5Also, if you don't have RPGMaker XP runtime package, download these dll's and put them in the same folder as the .exe. I'm gonna put them in the game in future releases, i just forgot it this time.

>>1592The music. Oh my GAH, the music!
Okay, now that that's done…
The story is actually more interesting than I first thought. The art gallery type area is my favorite area; the art is really good…I sure hope you made it and it's not place holder graphics, XP.
All of the music is great, or to my liking anyways; if it's place holder music, then you better make similar sounding music, lol.
About this screen shot: are those things hanging from the ceiling? Something's kind of strange about them.
No.1600
>>1599Now for gripes for v0.00:
No waking up ability makes it a bit more difficult to get back to the Nexus; I hope you can wake up in future versions, cus the first room is pretty cool, =p.
The main menu is kind of bland. I'm not sure if the grapics for the options are just default RMXP stuff, but I think it lacks character at the moment; same goes for the pause menu.
I don't want to complain much though. This game has great atmosphere, and I can't wait to see more.
I'm not really into some space/sci-fi type of stuff, but Miserere has my full attention.
I haven't played After Man yet by the way, but I plan to.
Also, I checked out your tumblr, Owl. Don't you think you should update it now!? xD
No.1603
>>1599About the screenshot, those are supposed to be hanging from the ceiling, yeah. I added those things last since i felt that the area was kinda empty but to be honest i was kinda hesitant about them as well. It does look strange. I'll think of something else til' the next release.
No.1604
>>1600So about the menu stuff. It's not complete, as you correctly deduced. Main menu is just a placeholder and i'll be adding a option to wake up also. About the options menu, if you mean the one you open with F1 where you can change controls etc, it's a built in option in RPGM XP which i cant change the looks of, the rest will be changed in due time.
I'll also be adding more rooms to the "waking world" in the future, it's supposed to be a whole station after all.
Lastly, thanks for the input.
No.1610
>>1604I think, when I said "graphics for the options", I was just very vaguely talking about the graphics and font for the main menu and its options; I explained it badly, x_x.
I think what was strange about the ceiling things (in the screen shot) is that it looks like the MC walks "behind" them rather than "below" them…It's kind of hard to explain.
More rooms in waking world!?
A whole space station to explore!
Can't wait, even if there is only one extra door! *can't wait*

Well, I finally played After Man.
I have to say that I'm really looking forward to a more Yume Nikki-ish game by you, Owl, after playing most of After Man (I enjoyed playing it by the way).
A question. Do you make your own music or do you get it from a free music site?
Either way, you sure pick/make good music. They really enhance the experience in your games.
No.2193
>>2191Well i dunno if this is frowned upon or not, but i actually get my music from free music sites. I don't know any other fangames that does it here but my musical skills just ain't any good (i have tried).

Glad ya liked After Man, even though me myself feel that it could be alot more polished.
No.2203
>>2193I personally prefer that people make their own stuff (even if they have to get "inspiration" from something else, heh). But not everyone can make their own music; not good music anyways.
The only problem I see with using free music is, if it happens to show up in another game, the music may sound un-original or out of place (if one were hear the song in the other game first).
Of course, if no one played that "other game" then I guess there'd be no problem. XD
At least the music I've heard you use fits quite well with the areas you put them in.

No.4167
Hurrah, server is up again so i thought i'd release a new version to celebrate. If i may say so myself, probably the best looking stuff i have put here so far.
Anyway, i've decided against any kind of "effect" stuff. I might add some kind of hijinks to get to deeper places later but for now it's pretty much straight forward exploration all around. You can wave at aliens and stuff but apart from that there's really no need for a save feature yet, so there is none implemented. Added the ability to wake up though. Menu stuff are still pretty much black and bleak. Also no need for any RPG XP files of any kind in this version.
Also, dunno how coherent the game is so far. To be honest i have only been working on it when i got some idea from somewhere so most places are standalones, but hey, at least i put some thought into it, yeah?
Oh and if you see cones blocking paths, ignore them. I just haven't made the place they are supposed to go to.

About the criticism, i don't think it's your monitor. It's a problem with edges of the map and my fog that makes the screen darker. I solved it by moving you a bit out of the edge. I just started playing and I love this game so far.
Even though the music isn't yours, it's beautiful, and so are the graphics. It reminds me of abstract flash games I used to play (99 rooms and some others I can't remember the names of).
One thing that bugs me is the walking speed, though. Maybe you can enable running by holding shift or something?
No.4498
>>4483Thanks, glad you liked it.
I tried a few different movespeeds while i was making the first version, and personally i think this one fits. It's a little bit faster than the normal speed in most fg's. Since the game is pretty linear, you don't really walk that long distances. Most non-linear areas aren't actually that big once you get a grip of the layout, and there are no looping areas. I'm not set in stone on it though. Did anyone else feel the character moves too slowly?
No.4499

I've been busy these last weeks, indeed i have, for i have been working on a new release of my little project.
New places to explore, ofcourse, but also new content in old places. I've been adding conversation (nothing major so far) and the option to examine stuff. Also, as i said in a older post, you can now die in a few places (and dying is not only a annoyance, it changes stuff on the station). Another thing i added is simple puzzles, basically bring item A to Place B and something happens. Not all of them items have uses so far, only the
Icicle, Red Fruit and Empty Bottle
can be used as of now.

Okay, I think I've been pretty much everywhere in v0.02. Glitches first:
> glitches, bugs, stuff like that- Screenshot on the left: you seem to be able to walk on this flag-like thing if it's too close to the floor (the one pictured seems to be the only one that is).
- Screenshot in the middle: there is a spot that you can walk off of (marked by the red square), and then you can go almost anywhere in this area.
- Screenshot on the right: this painting says "
"Don't look?" when you check the left side, but it's No title when you check the right side. Not sure if this is supposed to happen.
> deathsThe deaths seem to be at the peak of annoyance when you have to travel far to get back to a challenging area. I remember there was one such challenging area in After Man, but there was a save point fairly close by before that part; so it was pretty easy to keep trying. Maybe, you can make some sort of "shortcut" for getting back to the harder parts (or at least the ones that take a while to get to)?
Other than that,
that place I was looking forward to seeing (pictured in >>4262 ) seems to be
pretty difficult.
Also, I do like the changes that are made in the Space Station Harmony, when you get killed in the dream world.
> puzzlesI think I have just been mostly on a lucky streak when I found any of the items or the places that they go. But, so far the puzzle stuff doesn't seem any more difficult than Silent Hill's (except that you have to travel pretty far to find some items and where they're used). Anyways, I like the puzzles.
> interactionsThere are some places where "Main" will perform some action if you face the appropriate direction and press enter (like waving at a lizard, or curtsying(?) at the audience). These are little details, but I really like them; it makes the scenery where they happen seem more…real or something.
Not to mention, it's just cute.> dialog boxesYou seem to have added more dialog boxes for inspecting stuff. Keep doing that, I love dialog hunting. It's nice to see what the MC thinks of some things, or at least get some sort of explanation of whatever it is we're looking at.
Owl, I really like how this game is shaping up. (*_*)
No.5171
>>5167> glitches, bugs, stuff like thatI'll fix them asap. Funny how these passability glitches always pop up no matter how many times i play through and try going everywhere myself.
> deathsI've thought of various ways to weaken the annoyance, and perhaps when you die from something the first time i could make a change in the Nexus that let's you choose to go somewhere nearby, sounds good? Only for the most annoying ones, of course.
> puzzlesThere aren't alot of these right now so i guess it's not surprising that it feels like they are far away from each other. There will be more later and hopefully it will feel like you got stuff to do except walking around most of the time.
> interactionsI'm really glad you like these little surprises, because they are a pain to make compared to how much they change ingame. If they enhance the "atmosphere" i'll definitely be adding more of them, though.

Speaking of which:
the room you unlock with the Red Fruit gives me the creeps.

pressing that enter key wherever I think there may be a dialog box, expecting to get some text to read, but it's really something else to see the MC actually do something. So yeah, new version. Lots of small stuff added, and actual story progession. Also, i added a end to the "demo" so that you'll know when you've done all the story stuff (it's a door that says you're done).
I probably won't be as free in the next month, so don't expect another release in a while.

Finally got to play the new version. Good thing too, because I was bored as heck.
Glitches (if you haven't found them yet):
- 1. (pictured) There are two passabillity glitches in this room (noted by the red boxes).
- 2. When you use the wooden cross, the "giant frog" seems to just turn invisible, and you still can't enter the space he was in (as if he was still there).
- 3. When you use the warp that takes you to the giant stone cross, it continues to rain.
- 4. At the stairs past the lonely old lady, there is a point on the stairs where you can no longer go back up (not sure if that's a glitch).
- 5. When you enter the snowy mountain-top area, if you use the warp to go back, the snow continues to fall.
Also,
> I've been replaying the Silent Hill franchise lately, and i think it shows in how the latest places look, hah.
You weren't kidding. lol
I like what you've done with the menus and text boxes by the way. I think it looks nicer, or something to that effect.
Oh yeah, one more thing. Is there a use for the "bottle of glowing water" yet? I didn't seem to notice anywhere to use it.
Anyways, things are continuing to look interesting. Good job.
No.5477
>>5472As always, you're really helpful. I fixed the stuff mentioned. That stair have given me some frustration though, since it bugs out for no apparent reason. I fixed it by haxxing it though, i'm just that cool.
Expect more of that Silent Hill look later, i've kinda grown to like it. Also the game is gonna get darker at the end so it fits like a glove on the hand.I'm impressed you've played through this every new version and haven't got bored with it yet.

building in front of the stone cross (a crypt?) though; that place gives me a feeling of terror, every time.
No.5574

No.5659
A bit of a update. I was unhappy with how the first part of the game felt, so as i said in the post before i added a few puzzles. I also added some text stuff and the occasional new room. This is probably what the first part will look like, mostly. If i make changes to it they will most likely not be big ones. It is probably a good idea to keep a save of when you finished
the event after giving the old lady the doll parts, to be able to skip replaying the first part every time i make a new version.
Next i will start working on the second part, which will contain most of the story parts.

its also pretty hard to notice some things, it took me quite a while to figure out that i could walk
through the chinese zodiac hallway.
Yeah and it is a bit dark. Besides my bitching I really like this, because it has a plot. Its pretty refreshing from the whole "HURR OPEN TO INTERPRETATION NO DIALOGUE" because i like dialogue and to know sometimes what in the fresh hell is going on. And it lets me know about our nameless, gender-ambiguous(feminine man/girl?) main character.
also, what items do and dont have uses? i have like four items and i dont know what to do with them. particularly, the
iron key, bottle of glowing water and the icicle. And does
praying in the altar in the hidden room do anything other than
grow some cross shaped flowers?
keep it up, of course.
No.5674
>>5671I don't mind bitching as long as it is for a good reason. I agree with your points.
I guess my screen is pretty light then. I'll see if i can lighten up some of the darkest places a notch, i'll also do something about the stone puzzle.
About the items, everything but the
glowing bottle has it's use.
Praying does nothing at the moment, and it's actually dieing to those flying priest-head-dudes that grows the cross flowers.

No.5756

Basically it goes like this:
I would like Uboachans ideas for a short event to put in the game. Anything goes, as long as it isnt too long or complicated to make, basically i want to be able to sprite and event it in a day or two.
If possible, i would prefer if it fitted in one of these settings: A abandoned office building or a sewer.
I've seen a few threads where ideas for this kind of stuff have been discussed, and i thought it would be cool if some of the ideas could actually be in a game. So go nuts!

abandoned office scenario: a suitcase levitates, opens up and is a portal to another world.
No.5822
>>5820Idea for the abandoned office. Make a bit long room full of desks, like in typical office. Occasionally, some humanoid characters would appear in front of some of these desks, for a few seconds. Then, you could also add event, based on random variable. When player enters that very same room, music stops, there is only sound of dunno… wind howling, and behind every desk sits one of these humanoid creatures.
No.5823
>>5821Consider it done! Probably gonna have to be a pretty small world though, or it would take too long to make.
>>5822It's originial, and yet not original, i like it! I'll be doing it.

A release of of v1.0 should be done in a few weeks at most, if everything goes as it should. I cannot put into words how excited I am to finally be done with this project. It's both a relief and a bit sad really, since i enjoyed making Misere immensely (most of it).
Look forward to it!
Also of interest might be that this will probably be my one and only finished YN fangame. In other words, I won't be making another fangame after this. I already have another project in mind though, I won't stop making games anytime soon.
That's all i wanted to say, I guess. More info when i release the finished game, I guess.

No.5908
>>5907I guess not. I'm playing and already got into some new places.
No.5909
>>5907I am not "kidding you". I am in a good mood, so I will just say this: In my opinion, that is little for what the game offers.
A good day to you, sir/madam.
No.5912
>>5907Oh my god. its just 156 MBs. No big deal. I've downloaded much larger games. If a game this large is a surprise to you then I suggest you play more games.

Well, I've found the chapel at the station. I have three items that don't seem to be of any use to me:
-Crystal Skull
-Iron Key
-Doll legs
Where am I supposed to use these?
No.5914
>>5913I would suggest you look in the left nexus entrance and then try to get as far to the top rightas you can. if you want to use the Iron key.
The skull is wearing a top hat… what else is wearing a top hat?
I'd appreciate it if everyone asked me these kinds of things via mail or on tumblr instead of here:
jijpatte@hotmail.com
or
http://www.tumblr.com/blog/owlgamesOn another note… What happened to /fg/? Why is there no action here anymore?
No.5916
alrighty then lets look at what we i noticed so far
biiiiiiiig spoilers ahead for some who havent played or whatever
so carrie… when you fight her its like impossible to know what to do. and even after she eats you waist up i get teleported to where the hunk of rotted flesh is and cant open my menu to wake up. i had to close the game out of a ragequit because i couldnt win or even figure out how to damage her. at least, figure out how to. if thats a glitch i suggest fixing that.
also a few problems with npcs disappearing but its still solid where they were. like the creepy dolly girl thing in the office building when she phases through the floor
otherwise im so excited to find out a little more about our dear mainchara and some of his/her past
also /fg/ is either having a dry period or people are losing interest in making fangames. or if on the really bright side theyre too busy making the games and having lives in between that they dont have time to post here
wishful thinking, though. do you plan on doing bugfixes or are you outright done fuck that end of story with this?
No.5920
>>5916Ah yes **Carrie. Well if you really want to know how to damage her, read on. Notice those creatures on the left? They will push you if you interact with them after a little while. What if you time it so they hit Carrie? Try it*.*
No.5921
>>5920Aaand ofcourse i messed up spoiler. Well whatever. Anyway yeah I plan on bugfixing when I get a few reports of stuff.
No.5973
Well…
I've escaped the Doll Head Event. Still not knowing where to use the doll parts anyway. And… This game reminds me so much of N'oubliez… Only with the difference in that you're pretty free to roam around.
No.6150
>>6129I'll fix that if I ever get enough bug reports to warrant a new release. So far I've probably got less report than any other release I've done. Which is good I guess.
No.6211
Miserere is probably at the top of my list of 'Most favorite fangames ever'. You've made something awesome, and I hope it gets some more exposure.
I guess I could say that playing this has sort of inspired me to start work on a game I've been planning for a while; so, thanks for giving me the motivation for doing so. Here's to hoping it won't fall flat on its face and die.
No.6212
>>6211Thank you and good luck on your game, if you need any help feel free to contact me.
No.6215
>>6214That's weird. It sounds more like a problem with RMXP than the game though. You playing on windows 7/vista?
No.6216
>>6215Playing on Vista ._.
If it's not important I can just skip that room and leave it alone
No.6217
>>6214Oh and one more thing, I'm planning on removing the event in the picture in the next release, which will probably be the final release containing new content (which will mainly be stuff that you don't really need to enjoy the game).
I'll add another use for the items you use there, ofcourse, which will be a more appropriate one. That event was just something I threw into v1.0 because I didn't have the time or will to make anything nicer.
No.6218
>>6216Not really important, skip it.
No.6219
>>6217Oh okay that's good to hear. It didn't seem like the event had much relevance on the story
I just finished the game just now
had to check if it was possible to beat Carrie and my hunch was correct I just needed better timingI really enjoyed it ;w;
The game never ceases to scare the ever-long shit outta me

Finished the game… there are any theories explaining how and why he end up in that station, what happened with the rest of the occupants and even who are the protagonist ?
