Trying to install 2kki version 0.102c Revision 2. I've been using this guide (
http://yume2kki.wikia.com/wiki/Installation_Instructions) and working with the DL link it provides, but I can't get it to work. I have the RPG_RT.exe file and all of 2kkis assets in a folder, as far as I know, and I've been running it with applocale set to moon runes. I even unzipped the .rar using 7-zip with a jap local.
I don't know what this says and I don't know where I went wrong. There aren't any tips for this that I saw in the sticky.
Also, I'm using Windows 8. I'm running applocale in compatibility mode, but it doesn't let me choose which system to run it in, just "older versions of windows".

Did you install the Japanese RTP Runtime Package? Error message is referring to it.
No.2496
>>2495That might have something to do with this. It's a japanese RTP installation file, I think. I can't open it normally or with app locale set to japanese, I just get this message.
It's kinda neat in that when you run it through applocale, its language is preset to japanese, otherwise I wouldn't be so sure about whether it was english or not.
I thought I could skip that step once it started giving me trouble. With other RPGMaker games it was as simple as using the .exe to play, no installation of anything needed.

RPG_RT.exe isn't an RTP dood, it's the Runtime player. And yes, the requirement to have an RTP is shit and devs should take note of this

>>2499>And yes, the requirement to have an RTP is shit and devs should take note of thisIn most of the cases, it's actually because devs are lazy to clean the default stuff that it ask for RTP later, even if changing all that that is easier than making the game itself.
What I can't understand is why 2kki needs RTP. I remember checking the files and I didn't find any file that is in the RTPs.

>>2502>Now I'm curious as to what applocale was doing wrong, but it works!Japanese locale only renders the characters so they don't look like gibberish, and is also helpful when the software you're running uses japanese filenames.
Otherwise it doesn't do anything wrong, it all depends on what you're trying to do.

OP here, posting from my phone. I have no idea what happened, but I think my computer just bricked. I went through with installing the RTP and in the middle of a bar filling my computer forced itself to shut down. Now if I try to turn it on it will stay on for about five second before shutting down again. Sometimes my computer says its going to start a system repair, but it never gets anywhere.
What happened and is there any way to fix it? The RTP install file I used was from uboachan and you can find links to it in the help sticky. I should have anything fishy on it because there were people saying it worked fine.

It's time to get rid of win8 and install gentoo.

if this thread wasn't enough indication, I'm not good with computers. I don't think linux would be a good idea.
Besides, how would I even install it when my computer wont stay on for more than five seconds? I would be okay with a hard reset because the majority of my important files are backed up in a cloud, but im not sure how to get that going. Will a wondows recovery disk work if my applocale is set to japanese? Ill probably ditch 8 once i can get it running and install either vista or XP

So it's time based. After it force shuts down you cant turn it back on for a about a minute. Pressing the power button does nothing. Once some time has passed you can press the power button and the computer will turn back on for a little bit. Ive noticed that you have to hold the power button for a moment or it won't work. If you turn it back on not long after a force shut down it will just do the five second crap again. If you wait a while, about ten to thirty minutes, you can turn on the computer and it will start normally. It will still force shut down after a few minutes, but you can navigate the start menu. Anytime I try to go to desktop it shuts down. I went ahead and put my computer in airplane mode, just in case, but I cant do much else in the start menu.
Even though my computer is basically useless now, this is all really interesting. I wish I knew what was happening.

I tried changing the locale back to english (united states). I left the computer off for a few hours and when I turned it back on I had around four minutes to work with. I was able to change the locale and the computer was in the process of resetting when it did its force shut down thing. Is the locale in the process of switching while the computer is in the process of resseting? Because if it is my computer might be corrupted. I dont know how serious it is. Changing the locale was supposed to be harmless.
I cant find any information on any of this.
This is the RTP file I downloaded, opened, and tried to get to install RPGMaker while in japanese locale. The force shut down happened when the program started to install files. It was just before the bar filled to 50%.

>>2509I don't know why it's happening and I don't know what I'm doing.
I don't know why it shuts itself down because it never stays on long enough for either me or it to figure it out. I searched for issues involving shut downs elsewhere and came up with hardware issues involving the fan. What I have involves software because I know my fan has been working properly and the entire thing started while installing the RTP. The only software-shut-down things that come up involve viruses and malware.
For all I know the corrupt files in the RTP could have freaked out the computer. I'm not even sure something like this can happen just because the computer tried to process something corrupted.
What I was trying to ask before is, after choosing to switch locales, is the switch immediate and the computer just has to restart so it can reorient itself, or does it preform the switch while your computer is restarting. It doesn't matter now. I checked the last time I was able to get it to run for a couple minutes and it said that the locale was still Japan. I was just hoping changing it back would help. I'm grasping at straws for anything that seems like it would help at this point.

>>2510>The only software-shut-down things that come up involve viruses and malware. No, if your OS is shit, like it is since it's windows 8, it can also fuck itself up.
It can also be hardware, if your motherboard is loose in some spots (or burnt) it can lead to this kind of problems.
>For all I know the corrupt files in the RTP could have freaked out the computer. Some missing zeros and ones can't break anything, they're only lost and the file won't work, that's all.
>I'm grasping at straws for anything that seems like it would help at this point.Install another OS. I'm assuming your computer is "new" since it came with windows 8 so I'd recommend to call the place you bought it in and ask for technical support. Warranty usually last 2 years, but you better check it if you still can ask for tech service and use it.

So… There's no version that don't need applocale, japanese RTP and all this hardship?
No.2513
>>2512Look, applocale renders japanese encoding so instead of looking like this:
>Ž©•ÂÇIt looks like this:
>自閉症Using applocale is just telling your computer "Ok, instead of autistic mojibake I wanna it to look like actual japanese."
Therefore, if you want to play japanese games, you either change your locale manually to japanese, or use an application to temporarily change it to japanese. Applocale does the later, and it doesn't do nothing else; people blaming it for any problem they have are only morons. The only problem for not having your locale set to japanese (by any method) that you can have, is a filename error, since
\ can be confused in the encoding with another character (that's why japanese computers use the yen symbol,
\, instead of
\).
The japanese runtime package is necessary, though it should not be. I don't even know why the devs didn't bother to fix this stuff but well, whatever.
>all this hardshipIt's just downloading your game, changing your locale and installing the rtp. The rest is compatibility problems that people have and deserve for using windows 8.

>>2513I see. Sorry if i sound like a lazy fuck. It's just that i already tried a couple of times to make it run here and it never works. Would be cool if someone had already made an "click and play" version.
