for the translucent effect, it’s a bit of a pain but basically you scrape off the top orange layer of pumpkin until you can see the white layer underneath. after that, the more you scrape, the brighter the shine from behind when it’s lit.

scoring it beforehand with a metal scraper with lots of teeth helps with getting the orange layer off since it gives your tool more surface to catch on. there might be better ways to do it though! that was just my improvised solution.
