>>15335I don't relate with Tomoko, just her situations. She's an entitled bitch who blames everyone else for her problems. Yeah she has social issues but she shouldn't be a cunt to anyone willing to help her. She thinks her best friend is a bitch for getting a boyfriend. Yet she talked to her the whole day like she always did. Fuck Tomoko.
(I've only see the anime though so I don't know if the manga is any different.)

>>15333well i related to a couple actually, and it was often strange to see those characters reflect myself, whereas in the usual TV shows there were never really characters that i could relate to, or see myself in.
I related to:
Shinji Ikari from Evangelion
Sato from Welcome to the NHK
Hikigaya from Oregairu
and a little with Lain from Serial Experiments Lain

>>15352I wouldn't say he repeatedly tries his best at all. While he does have social phobia, he doesn't do much to try and break it. And he keeps looking, or at least keeps falling for all sorts of escapism. Drugs, pyramid schemes, online games, galgames.
He would probably agree with me here as well, since he even fell for things he already knew were traps to begin with (like the pyramid scheme), and keeps sulking over how he barely even tries.
So really, quite the opposite. He never grows in this aspect. The ending is a big portrayal of this.
He still has qualities, though. There were many times that he could have used escapism AND screw his friends over that he chose not to (like in his encounters with his senpai, or Misaki at the end). In those critical moments, he was actually prioritizing his friends well being instead of using them for escapism by abusing their weakness.
This is definitely something one can look up to.

>>15359I got more the impression that he is an ok and reasonable person but is just can be influenced easy and the other characters didnt go easy on him.
What kind of wonders me is why he was so disregarding of misak, i wouldnt say he was an asshole to here, but still i get the feeling despite misakis way of put herself into his life he could have tried being more friendly to her.

>>15370> easily influenced> ok and reasonable personChoose one
Yeah, it was sad seeing how he treated Misaki sometimes(she had her shady reasons, but still). Even more when she was putting so much effort into it. She really did seem like an angel, always coming back and still wanting to help with everything.
There were many things that made him avoid her. Inferiority complex (the moment she revealed being weak and a victim he started approaching her), shame, fear of commitment. Having a friend screaming "girls are whores" also didn't help, heh.
But most importantly, as I said before, he cared for her well being. He had no idea why she wanted to be next to him, and thought she was wasting her time and efforts and being bad influenced by his character. He was too self-conscious, having a girl skipping school just to help him didn't feel right.

>>15410>Choose oneI wouldnt say being easy influenced and reasonable are mutualy exclusive, i think in most cases he was just overly enthusiastic about things, coupled with his despair its easy to see why his brain shuts off when confronted with a possible soltion to his hiki life.
What irritates me is that even tough he seemed, well not to dislike misaki, but took no interest in her.
While at the same time he didnt seem uncomfortable around her, nor particularly depressed to such a degree as to cause a block.
Even despite the nature of their relationship it seems odd to me how sato took no interest in her whatsoever, i mean even under the circumstances its not like asking her what she likes doing or something like that would have been out of place.

>>15413> I wouldnt say being easy influenced and reasonable are mutualy exclusiveI guess I have to agree. If one actually talked to him, he would probably be able to conceptually make good plans, if in a good state of mind. Never in action, though. He is reasonable in theory!
> What irritates me is that even tough he seemed, well not to dislike misakiI would say he was sexually and romantically interested on her very early in the show. I don't get why you are talking likes this
He actually did ask about her life, and was interested in who she was. That was when they were faking a relationship for his mother, so he needed basic info on her family and stuff, but also was really curious about who his angel was. But she lied and made up a story.
Maybe they talked a lot more out of screen. This isn't a SoL, episodes didn't focus on them talking about their life like that. But I think it was strongly hinted that they talked about those topics (they had fake dates and alone moments). Anyway, It was implied that Misaki was mostly a book worm that liked cute dolls, interested mainly on psychology and philosophy. So really, they talked about her interests constantly on those training sessions. Showing this type of dialogue would be redundant.
They both talk about each other's personal lives on the ending too.

>>15352The persistence is, yeah. And he is basically logical left on his own. But like the other anon said, he's very easily influenced and doesn't have the strongest of will. He has the basic thoughts down, his thoughts unbidden by anxiety are pretty close to reality, but he's anxious and his will is weak enough that it's pretty fragile.
I like him a lot though, so even so, eh. And I get that sort of paranoia too sometimes, and I can certainly relate to thinking someone a fool yet listening to what they say and being affected by it, so I can kinda relate. Idunno though. I'm not really certain which anime character I relate to best.
