So, I downloaded the game and played it for a bit. These are my thoughts…
It's cute and innovative and it's environments seem very thought-out.
I really like how you get the Hammer Effect. I love seeing the use of puzzles.
The Glass Elevator World is fantastic. I love the level of interactivity there is in this location, as well as there is in the whole game.
I can't wait to see how it pans out.
Also, the girl's name is Sometsuki, which I believe translates into "stained" or "dyed".
I hope I used spoilers correctly.

Yeah, I get the same problem izzi has. My non-unicode set is Japanese (applocale not required), but I still get gibberish filenames no matter what the fuck I do.
It's been pissing me off, but I'm really not desperate enough to play another YN clone that I'd change all the filenames to their proper names.
So unless someone can offer me a solution to this weird problem (the files are DOA, in fact) or give me a link to a version whose filenames aren't screwed, then I can't play it and review it and catch a bunch of heat for being unimpressed by it.
On second thought…

And… that's it.
File names should now be displayed in Japanese, even if they looked all messed up before you unzipped the game folder (they did in my case).
Make sure to run the RPG_RT file with applocale as well, though You probably already know that much.
If you have your computer set to Japanese, you shouldn't need to use applocale, but unless you keep it set that way all the time, using applocale's probably more convinient.

I've started translating Ultra Violet on my own account, but since I'm not all that good at Japanese I'm not sure how to ask the author for permission to translate it. Does anyone know how I could ask this in an appropriate manner? The translation itself isn't proving very difficult for me, but going from English to Japanese is something I'm not too good at.
Please note, though, that the translation I'm attempting does NOT involve making the locale Unicode compatible. The main reason for this is that the creator of Ultra Violet uses a /LOT/ of kanji and kana in the filenames, so it would require me to recode more or less the entire game. I would be more willing to attempt this if Ultra Violet was more or less complete, but since it's only at version 0.02 I doubt that it will be done any time soon.
Can anyone help out with writing to the creator?
No.5649
I really wish people here wouldn't use the word "code" to describe event programming, because they are pretty far from the same thing. People on Uboachan can barely make use of RM2k/3's event programming, much less actually code something with an actual programming language.

No.6764
hi!
for anons, who still can't run the game, try running the game in Japanese Locale. On Windows 7:
Open Control Panel
Go to Region and Language
Switch to the administrative tab
Go to System Locale and choose Japanese (Japan) from the drop-down in the window that pops up.
This will not change your computer so that everything displays in Japanese; it will only allow your computer to interpret Japanese characters. Most windows will still be in English.

I'm really liking this game so far.
I played around with the chair in Sometsuki's room a little and I found that there's a speed glitch you can do which is very similar to Yume Nikki but different in maneuvering.
1. Equip the Bunny effect in Sometsuki's dream room
2. Sit in the chair. Sometsuki's sprite will return from the rabbit ears to her normal sprite even though it's still equipt.
3. Press Z while facing the desk to ride the chair
4. You'll notice that once you're riding the chair, if you press SHIFT, even though the rabbit effect is on, nothing happens. To get by this, enter the menu, and once again select the rabbit effect, and even though it will make a sound letting you know you can't select it, SHIFT will now be activated.
5. Press SHIFT, and this time Sometsuki will turn into the bunny, and when she does the chair will disappear
6. While Sometsuki is a bunny, move back to the desk, and press Z. A sound will activate letting you know that you have dismounted the chair, but it'll still be invisible.
7. Face away from the chair and press Z to get off. Sometsuki's sprite will change back to her normal sprite (much like with the speed glitch in Yume Nikki) and she will be moving much faster
Note: Unlike Yume Nikki, it seems that the only effects that work for this glitch are the speed effects - the bunny and witch effect. I'm pretty sure nobody's mentioned this yet anywhere, because this game is fairly new and there's barely any info on it yet.

The worlds in this game are fucking neat. I liked the convenience store, Elevator World, and Summer World in particular.

There's also nostAlgic… but don't be fooled. A's mom is psycho.

Also, for some reason I can't use the hammer in the update. Anyone else have that problem?
No.8332
>>8331Hahaha… that's because ver 0.04 implemented a new safety mechanic.
If you press Shift, it switches the hammer effect from "safety mode" to "kill mode". The benefit of that is that you can talk to important characters (teleportation, effects, etc.) without killing them or having to switch off of the hammer effect.
When the weapon is equipped, the default is "safety mode".
You can tell whether or not the weapon is active or not by Sometsuki's stance. When she is simply holding the hammer in her hand, she won't attack anyone she interacts with. When you hit Shift, she wields her hammer above her head, ready to swing.
Also, the NPCs will only run from Sometsuki when her weapon is in ready use, so merely having it equipped won't do anything.
No.8681
>>8680Huh.
I added the .04 map bugfixes today and now I can't manage to get into the room the way I outlined anymore.
I did figure out that one of the Dark Castle dolls that are at the top of the debug room gives out money, and one of the Cake World people knocks you off your bed, gives you a nosebleed and takes all of your effects when you interact with it.
The spider-girl Sometsuki peaked my interest, though. Talking to any of her effect-clones lets you trigger its walking animation, and the same goes for the spider-girl, so now I'm wondering if you can obtain it somehow. It doesn't show it on the fangame wiki, either. I guess I'd have revert my maps back to unpatched .04 if I want to check it out again.

>>7091As well as the Yume Nikki speedglitch, the no clip glitch is also performable.
Once again similar idea to Yume Nikki.
1. Equip the knife effect in Sometsuki's dream room
2. Get on the chair
3. Press downward and Z to get off of the chair
4. As soon as she gets off IMMEDIATELY press Shift. Sometsuki will switch her stance.
Now you can clip through objects.

help i'm stuck.
No.8860
>>8858actually you can go to bed, but when it teleports you to the balcony you immediately lose the ability to clip through objects
what that means though is unlike Yume Nikki, you can use multiple effects to noclip, which doesn't matter at all because in both games you can switch effects without ending the glitch
I also forgot to mention in my old post at
>>8685but noclipping is more useful in this game because also unlike Yume Nikki, you can still activate events (including teleporting) where the condition to activate is that the player must be standing on that certain grid block. I hope you guys know what the fuck I'm talking about.
