I have no knowledge of Japanese but I read her name as Sometsuki.
So, I downloaded the game and played it for a bit. These are my thoughts…
It's cute and innovative and it's environments seem very thought-out.
I really like how you get the Hammer Effect. I love seeing the use of puzzles.
The Glass Elevator World is fantastic. I love the level of interactivity there is in this location, as well as there is in the whole game.
I can't wait to see how it pans out.
Also, the girl's name is Sometsuki, which I believe translates into "stained" or "dyed".
I hope I used spoilers correctly.
oh my gosh
Well, seeing as Ultra couldn't tell what the protagonist's name was, I think it's pretty safe to say they didn't create it.
Pretty sure those name details are what Ultra was saying "thanks" about as well, in case that post's what caused your confusion.
Thanks for clearing that up.
(Question deleted to prevent clutter.)
Can anybody upload the game on Mediafire?
Will someone kind please tell me where and how to get speed and weapon effects? If it has those of course.
the speed effect is gotten through the pink door, just walk around and you'll find a supermarket with some coins eventually.
the weapon is through the blue door and a really dark maze. it takes some wandering around to get to.
Thank you! I found the speed effect but it was in the glass elevator world after touching a sewing needle stick thing in that world.
Yeah, I agree. What's there seems nice, but there really isn't much at the moment.
Missing file error. ("The file "Animal" could not be opened")
Download this file (if the name is messed up rename it 動物), put it in Charset folder in Ultra Violet's game folders and it should be fixed.
How the fuck do you run a game made in RPG Maker (Windows ONLY) on Mac to begin with?
Get Windows, then we might be able to help. It's a better system, anyway. (if you disagree, get Gentoo)
very nice application
i've been able to run everything except this, yume nisshi, and sickmind
i can't stand windows, so i'm trying to make it work like this so i don't have to buy a pc just for rpgmaker stuff
is there some applocale equivalent for mac though?? or should i just give up and wait for some lets plays to spring up???
Now I am not sure whether or not it works, but I did hear there was a program called Wine that might be able to help?
Here's a quick link I found for that: http://www.winehq.org/about/
And here's something about RPG maker: http://appdb.winehq.org/objectManager.php?sClass=application&iId=937
And if that doesn't work, I DID upload an LP that shows how to get all current effects/system menus, but if you don't like people talking in them, then sorry :( !: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL84CB75D055801225&feature=plcp
whoops didn't see this sooner
i have tried wine before and to be honest i really have no idea how to work it the one i have downloaded just shows me a more detailed version of what bottles i have in crossover
i've seen your videos and i don't mind the talking at all! but there's only 3, i haven't seen the whole game yet. the experience is much better if i'm the one playing it as well.
i just got on my old computer which seemed to run everything much better and i'm still having trouble.
would it be possible for someone to upload their ultra violet folder with all the correct file names? for some reason every time i try to download it from the uploader i get the gibberish filenames :c
too bad i still can't play it :'
it's the gosh darned filenames and i'm at a loss on how to fix them
I love the libary in that update.
it looks so awesome :'D
maybe I should take this game as inspiration for my game…
If you do, please note the new rules. No copying and must have a lot of progress done already.
Well, time to see how this is now.
I will not steal Sprites like the rules say. (but i bet with material is also meant the ideas of some events. oh god my english.)
I want soon more updates for this game.
it looked so awesome, so i peeked with rpg maker 2k3.
the creator knows how to do events.
Yeah, I get the same problem izzi has. My non-unicode set is Japanese (applocale not required), but I still get gibberish filenames no matter what the fuck I do.
It's been pissing me off, but I'm really not desperate enough to play another YN clone that I'd change all the filenames to their proper names.
So unless someone can offer me a solution to this weird problem (the files are DOA, in fact) or give me a link to a version whose filenames aren't screwed, then I can't play it and review it and catch a bunch of heat for being unimpressed by it.
On second thought…
1. Extract the game with an applocal'd 7zip (I'm not certain it has to be 7zip specifically, but it's what I use)
And… that's it.
File names should now be displayed in Japanese, even if they looked all messed up before you unzipped the game folder (they did in my case).
Make sure to run the RPG_RT file with applocale as well, though You probably already know that much.
If you have your computer set to Japanese, you shouldn't need to use applocale, but unless you keep it set that way all the time, using applocale's probably more convinient.
Yeah, I tried every possible permutation of unzipping the file. I tried other programs, switched my locale to US and applocaled it; nothing worked at all.
But like I said, I feel I'm not really missing out on much.
Alright, somehow it magically worked after I downloaded it for the sixteenth bloody time.
Yippee, now I have to play this thing.
Huh, wonder if the download was stopping before reaching 100%, or something. Good you got it working, in any case.
I'm looking forward to reading your review by the way, even if it doesn't sound like you're looking forward to writing it, hehe.
There's some good things and some bad things. I'll put my review up later.
Definitely one of the better fangames, and probably the best Japanese one.
there's something weird about the system menu "violet"
whenever i got that, it was the filename
once i fixed that i kept getting errors for every other name that was weird, and once i got to a map file i couldn't keep fixing them
did you do anything different that time you downloaded it? any new settings or whatever?
I've started translating Ultra Violet on my own account, but since I'm not all that good at Japanese I'm not sure how to ask the author for permission to translate it. Does anyone know how I could ask this in an appropriate manner? The translation itself isn't proving very difficult for me, but going from English to Japanese is something I'm not too good at.
Please note, though, that the translation I'm attempting does NOT involve making the locale Unicode compatible. The main reason for this is that the creator of Ultra Violet uses a /LOT/ of kanji and kana in the filenames, so it would require me to recode more or less the entire game. I would be more willing to attempt this if Ultra Violet was more or less complete, but since it's only at version 0.02 I doubt that it will be done any time soon.
Can anyone help out with writing to the creator?
I really wish people here wouldn't use the word "code" to describe event programming, because they are pretty far from the same thing. People on Uboachan can barely make use of RM2k/3's event programming, much less actually code something with an actual programming language.
i'm no good with the nihongos, but i'm sure there are people here who are
have you already found a way to contact them? because i found their pixiv, but that's about it http://www.pixiv.net/member.php?id=1834001
(also thank you thank you thank you for trying to work on a translated version)
Translation anon reporting in: I've established contact with Gozo-Ropp and am currently asking him about whether translation would be okay. If he is okay with it, expect more news on it in the future.
for anons, who still can't run the game, try running the game in Japanese Locale. On Windows 7:
Open Control Panel
Go to Region and Language
Switch to the administrative tab
Go to System Locale and choose Japanese (Japan) from the drop-down in the window that pops up.
This will not change your computer so that everything displays in Japanese; it will only allow your computer to interpret Japanese characters. Most windows will still be in English.
I'm really liking this game so far.
I played around with the chair in Sometsuki's room a little and I found that there's a speed glitch you can do which is very similar to Yume Nikki but different in maneuvering.
1. Equip the Bunny effect in Sometsuki's dream room
2. Sit in the chair. Sometsuki's sprite will return from the rabbit ears to her normal sprite even though it's still equipt.
3. Press Z while facing the desk to ride the chair
4. You'll notice that once you're riding the chair, if you press SHIFT, even though the rabbit effect is on, nothing happens. To get by this, enter the menu, and once again select the rabbit effect, and even though it will make a sound letting you know you can't select it, SHIFT will now be activated.
5. Press SHIFT, and this time Sometsuki will turn into the bunny, and when she does the chair will disappear
6. While Sometsuki is a bunny, move back to the desk, and press Z. A sound will activate letting you know that you have dismounted the chair, but it'll still be invisible.
7. Face away from the chair and press Z to get off. Sometsuki's sprite will change back to her normal sprite (much like with the speed glitch in Yume Nikki) and she will be moving much faster
Note: Unlike Yume Nikki, it seems that the only effects that work for this glitch are the speed effects - the bunny and witch effect. I'm pretty sure nobody's mentioned this yet anywhere, because this game is fairly new and there's barely any info on it yet.
Damn, I can only imagine the time and effort put into pixelling those tiles.
um, guys, I can't find the witch effect anywhere, some help pretty please~? ;-;
Thank you very much~<3
The worlds in this game are fucking neat. I liked the convenience store, Elevator World, and Summer World in particular.
On a related note, are there any games that are lighthearted like Ultra Violet? I think the atmosphere is refreshing and more fun to play compared to games with darker themes.
Somnium is pretty neat, it retains the trippiness but it's relatively lighthearted most of the time.
There's also nostAlgic… but don't be fooled. A's mom is psycho.
Debris has many heartwarming moments but also has high amounts of gore and glitches. It's hard to describe.
But I'm afraid I never found a fangame that is cuter than Ultra Violet.
If you wander around long enough you'll find a girl who, if you donate enough money to (1,000yen), will give you an effect
I always thought it was translucent tape. Or a flower print design on the door.
Also, for some reason I can't use the hammer in the update. Anyone else have that problem?
Hahaha… that's because ver 0.04 implemented a new safety mechanic.
If you press Shift, it switches the hammer effect from "safety mode" to "kill mode". The benefit of that is that you can talk to important characters (teleportation, effects, etc.) without killing them or having to switch off of the hammer effect.
When the weapon is equipped, the default is "safety mode".
You can tell whether or not the weapon is active or not by Sometsuki's stance. When she is simply holding the hammer in her hand, she won't attack anyone she interacts with. When you hit Shift, she wields her hammer above her head, ready to swing.
Also, the NPCs will only run from Sometsuki when her weapon is in ready use, so merely having it equipped won't do anything.
I added the .04 map bugfixes today and now I can't manage to get into the room the way I outlined anymore.
I did figure out that one of the Dark Castle dolls that are at the top of the debug room gives out money, and one of the Cake World people knocks you off your bed, gives you a nosebleed and takes all of your effects when you interact with it.
The spider-girl Sometsuki peaked my interest, though. Talking to any of her effect-clones lets you trigger its walking animation, and the same goes for the spider-girl, so now I'm wondering if you can obtain it somehow. It doesn't show it on the fangame wiki, either. I guess I'd have revert my maps back to unpatched .04 if I want to check it out again.
are you the person who made the maps because I think you and I are the only contributors in this thread. I was going to make the same maps but they beat me to it
That being said, even though it's kinda late, I have an update to my old post at >>7091
As well as the Yume Nikki speedglitch, the no clip glitch is also performable.
Once again similar idea to Yume Nikki.
1. Equip the knife effect in Sometsuki's dream room
2. Get on the chair
3. Press downward and Z to get off of the chair
4. As soon as she gets off IMMEDIATELY press Shift. Sometsuki will switch her stance.
Now you can clip through objects.
Nah, dude. I just started with this a week ago, actually. I found the debug room today and figured that I'd post it here. Happy to hear there are still contributors though, this is an amazing fangame.
>>8729>Just like in .flow, you can corrupt all of the entities here
huh? this is the first i've heard of this.
Referring to this event: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rlbbcQtOTwU
Sorry for the confusion.
Anyone figure out where the Android and Pigtail effects are?
>>8856Android: Nexus -> Neon World -> Android World place thingIn Neon World you have to look for an opening to the robot area thing that I can't come up with a name for, and the direction of rooms to get there is up, left, down, left, down, rightPigtails: Nexus -> Neon World -> FC World -> Basement MazeIn Neon World there's a second opening that leads to FC World. The direction of rooms to get there is up, left, left, upOnce in FC world, find the town of bunnies, and located upward behind the town is a bridge to a lone house on a little island. In that house is a maze. You're looking for a girl with little green bowsin the basement down the stairs and through the door, take the furthest door to the left, through to the next door, down the stairs to the furthest door to the right, and then down the stairs to the second door on the right. down the stairs where tiles turn to splotches, and that's where she is.
Sorry for all that. There's no maps yet of either places. Maybe soon this game might get it's own wiki.
And as I was trying to relocate these effects I realized there's a way to noclip without being asleep, as I described here >>8685
If you just exit the computer and press shift to sit as soon as she's getting off the chair you can noclip but it's useless because you can't go to bed
but then if you get on the computer while she's standing on top of the chair instead of infront of it…
help i'm stuck.
actually you can go to bed, but when it teleports you to the balcony you immediately lose the ability to clip through objects
what that means though is unlike Yume Nikki, you can use multiple effects to noclip, which doesn't matter at all because in both games you can switch effects without ending the glitch
I also forgot to mention in my old post at >>8685
but noclipping is more useful in this game because also unlike Yume Nikki, you can still activate events (including teleporting) where the condition to activate is that the player must be standing on that certain grid block. (e.g. warping to next area by walking off screen opposed to using a door that activates with action button)
I hope you guys know what the fuck I'm talking about.
Thanks for the prompt reply. Never really bothered checking out the neon world because it was a pain to navigate.
I managed to get to the android place from the Glass Elevator World. I'm working on finding the FC World again, I never really looked around there too much.
Haven't really tried noclipping in Yume Nikki either so I can't say I do, lol
Like I promised, here I am, with another translated fangame! ^_^ I finished the actual translation yesterday, but I have constantly failed to properly update the patch. Today I got it fixed somehow, so now you can finally play Ultra Violet in English!
You can get it here: http://www.mediafire.com/download/c06i5s5d3xb7p1o/Ultra+Violet+ver0.04+%28English%29.zip
I'll be back with Yume Graffiti ver0.03's translation soon.
Happy Dreaming and Happy Holidays!
I didn't even know that diary event existed despite being in that room a million times. I'll have to check it out myself to see it with sound.
Sorry, reposting because I organized and remade some videos.
I uploaded some gameplay videos on Youtube. No sound, unfortunately. It does include how to find effects, menu types, and various events though.
Here is the link to the new playlist.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BWqzQ9hMrv0&list=PLbQvSsVbsPmJT-RTQlz0YR5e_7OrMX_n6
Thanks for the videos, found a couple things I missed. Really hope the creator of this game doesn't abandon it.
