Unless she has fantastic hair, the general rule is get a wig because they are much more manageable and better looking, you don't have to compromise your own hair as well.
I don't know, just go for what ever she is feeling good about. Just look at the things she loves, and pick out characters she likes, it doesn't necessarily mean being limited to what you look like.
