I want to watch this anime, but I can't stand the animation. All the girls look like they have severe fetal alcohol syndrome. Just look at their damn eyes.

Is it even worth watching?

Aren't you used to stuff like that by now if you've already watched anime before? Yes, the eyes are weird, though.

Anyways, to answer your question, it's a short series. I think it's a bit overrated but I don't regret the minimal amount of time I invested in watching it. I remember the animation itself being fine (not talking about art style) albeit nothing special.

I say watch at least a couple of episodes and decide if you want to finish it. By the way, don't try to make sense of the first episode—it's weird.

No, not really, most animes from the 90's didn't even have that retard-eyes shit going on. In fact, the only two animes I can think of off the top of my head that have those horrible eye/facial structures is air and haruhi. I think I can get past it with haruhi, but Air, oh hell no, not happening.

 No.128

I think the eyes are okay. It does take some getting used to, after about 30 minutes of looking at it the apprehension goes away.

Funny coincidence that those two shows are produced by the same studio. That might explain some things.

Really just kyoani in general…

If you're going to get into Haruhi, read the novels. They're like X times better than the adaptations.

Except the movie. Do watch the movie once you at least finish book 1/first season. Brilliant.

 No.147

I started the series with ep.1, not knowing about 0, and never saw 0 until after season 2. I regret nothing. I imagine the good part of season 2 would just feel like a giant recap of ep.0 to someone who saw it beforehand.

 No.148

I gave up after like 3 episodes, I think? I thought the animation was crappy too, but what turned me off was how insufferable and irredeemable Haruhi was. Man, If I knew her in real life, I would HATE her.

Sweet Jesus. I felt the same way rereading it again after middle school. And yet, she's a huge otaku icon. What.

Yeah, I love the Haruhi series and even I have no idea why the fandom loves her so much, she's intentionally designed to be a hateable character; Kyon, the "only sane man" character is the real meat of the series, his existence and influence on the plot — as well as the story being told from his perspective — imo, makes the series a clever deconstruction of the "God/Mary Sue protagonist" cliché.

It's like the animu equivelant to Pleasantville, if Pleasantville had aliens and time travelers and espers and shit going on behind the scenes.

Yet, I know Haruhi series fans who hate Kyon with a passion. Dafuq. The series would be a pile of shit without him.

 No.152

>>151
That's interesting since Kyon was basically the only reason I stuck with the show. The rest of the cast was all weird so he at least gave me assurance it wasn't supposed to be considered normal for the setting.

Eventually I grew to like all of the characters except Haruhi. Never warmed up to her.

Imo, Naw. Haruhi is pretty much one of the shittiest anime out there.

It's the ending song and the dance. Everyone likes the dance. I like the dance. I think people just watch the show for the dance, and then excuse everything else, because they want to say that they like the anime with the bets dance. It's probably the only thing that draws most people in.

I hate that show so much .A. the dance be damned

 No.158

Hahaha oh my goodness yes! The dance is good especially the parodies. My first experience with the show was someone at anime club trying to show the first episode and me finding the voices annoying as shit and the show uninteresting.

It didn't help that after the first episode to get us to stay longer they showed us the part where Haruhi blackmails the computer guys with the boob grabbing trick telling us how hilarious this part was. No, just no. It wasn't funny, it just pissed me off

Regardless of what anyone says though, I'll never watch it. It's just not my genre of anime to begin with

 No.178

I didn't think it was really that bad, I mean I despised the Endless Eight "arc" and found the rest of season 2 unimpressive, but I loved the movie.

The fact that I love Crispin Freeman's voice probably helps, though.

About the KyoAni artstyle — their newer (Haruhi S2, Keion, Hyouka etc) artstyle is so much better. The KEY stuff Air/Kanon/Clannad was the absolute worst.

 No.194

>>193
but thats just cause its the style of Air/Kanon/Clannad

 No.195

>>193
So there are people out there, who dislike bishoujo art style.
I can understand that. K-on! for example is just exaggerated from my point of view.
