Did you guys use a guide on your first playthrough? I'm asking because I'm playing through the game for the first time and I currently have 22 effects and I think I used a guide for like 2 or 3 of them. I mean like, I love the feeling of being lost and wandering around in this game but I'm not sure if I would've ever found buyobuyo without a guide or discovered UBOA without knowing about it beforehand.

I tried to pass it without a guide, but after a few days I got TOO FUCKING BORED and I used one.

op here, completely off-topic but I just beat the game and I'm wondering what I should play next. I'm thinking about .flow and yume 2kki, any other must-play fangames? Also, is yume 2kki ever gonna be completely finished or should I just start playing it right now?

Yume 2kki is hell to set up if you haven't installed the nessisary applications to play Japanese fangames with, but is the largest fangame to date and has no planned finishing point.
.flow and LcdDem are also must-plays, and I would personally recommend Me and Debris.
nostAlgic and ultra violet are also good games if you want something a little more cheery.

is there a guide somewhere? And I'll check out the other games you recommended as well, thanks!

I say hell because back when I installed it on my old computer I used the AppLocale Method and had to go through AppLocale every time, but it's actually simpler than you may think.
You have two choices, basically:
>AppLocale Method (Complicated but seemingly popular)
>Computer Locale Change Method (Recommended unless you REALLY need to keep your locale the same)

AppLocale Method:
>Install AppLocale
>Open Japanese RPG Maker 2000 RTP in AppLocale
>Open Yume 2kki Installer in AppLocale
>Open Yume 2kki in AppLocale

Computer Locale Method:
>Change computer locale to Japanese
>Install Japanese RPG Maker 2000 RTP
>Install Yume 2kki
>Play game

Once you have the RTP installed, you can skip that step for installing any other Japanese RPGM2000 games.

This page has the downloads for the mentioned programs.

Thank you!

I just used I guide to find the events and to enter the ghost world. for the rest I prefered to be surprised. I even made a map for the teleport maze.

OT:

yes.
the guide didn't describe the events though, which was nice. just the effect locations.
