The SNES classic launches tomorrow, who here is looking forward to it, what games are you planning to play first? I'll be camping outside Best Buy the following morning, if you happen to be going to the same store as me maybe we can talk to pass the time before the store opens, I'm going to the Best Buy in Santa Rosa California, hope to see you there.

I still do not understand that concept of re-releasing ancient tech on what amounts to emulator boxes.

You can download an emulator. Or you can buy the original hardware for cheaper on eBay. Someone explain this nonsense.

Op explains it perfectly. As long as there's idiots who'll buy it, they'll keep selling it. Why not?

This is console nonsense merely reaching it's logical conclusion. Nintendo could have easily just released their games on the PC and other modern consoles, like Sega does while also allowing companies to make Genesis clones for those who want "authentic hardware" and without the artificial shortages to boot, but Nintendo wants to control everything.

To be fair to Nintendo, I could understand a console that can be very difficult to emulate well, like the N64 and I can see the appeal to someone who has no interest in PC emulators or even modding a PSP or 3DS but when it comes down to it, people have very little interest in emulators and nostalgia is the in thing now. I mean dude, Nickelodeon had that whole "90s are all that" block and they are making movies out of classics like Rocko's Modern Life and Hey Arnold!. Disney is shitting out remakes out of good classics too.

I get that nostalgia is "in" but what I don't get is why buy a shitty emubox over the generally cheaper real deal? TVs still have good ol' RCA jacks.

You made me check my own tv to see if it had RCA input, I had a little chuckle over that one.

But, while the SNES Classic is a stupid product, it technically is a very good deal. I remembered reading that Earthbound is on that thing and if someone really wants to play Earthbound on real (or just Nintendo sanctioned) hardware, unless he/she is cool with buying a repro cart that game alone is over a hundred bucks. And that is not counting actually getting the actual console. And that's not factoring in the fact if you get a legit cart of the game, is the average person gonna do maintenance like replacing the save battery?

I'm actually cool with Nintendo making emulator boxes, although I wouldn't buy them myself unless it's for a very hard to emulate console. Because there does seem to be a good sized market for people who want their old games but don't want to emulate on their PC or phone but don't want to buy a 3DS or Wii for VC games.

My main personal beef with Nintendo on this product is the clearly intentional shortages of it. Obviously, Nintendo won't do the sensible thing and just release their games on PC or other, more popular consoles so the least they could do make the emuboxes more accessible for those who would buy it. I mean, Sega does it fine with no issues and gives you more games too.

Like I said, console nonsense taken to it's logical conclusion.

I never understood why people are so obsessed with nintendo.
