So can we make a new wiki? On wikia, not fucking wikidot?

The current one contains almost no photos, no videos, does not contain the music, a comment section, and has shit tons of awful inexcusable errors. They also need to put their theories in to a "theory" subsection on each world/NPC page.

It's fucking awful. Really, let's make a new wiki.

Search better then. It can be found on places other than Microsoft's site, though it's a bit trickier to find. I don't have any links handy unfortunately, but I think I remember the thing I needed to search for and download was called an "East Asian Language Pack", or something along those lines.

No.2232[Reply]

This might be a stupid idea for a thread, but oh well.

I don't think it's too outlandish to say that in terms of the graphics in flow, we're left kind of in the dark for much of the specifics about what things look like. Most objects are only rough representations of what they're supposed to be, and it all leaves us a bit detached from things. So I like to speculate about these specifics. To get really detailed about what things are, and go even beyond the visuals; what things are, what they feel like, the noise they produce, all sorts of things that I guess are… kinda silly, but fun to think about nonetheless, I think. :P Makes the game more immersive when I think of it that way. Sort of like the theory thread, except nothing about plot; just the pure, basic existence of things as they are.

Case in point are these three representations of Sabi I drew. Now I know not everyone can do stuff like that, but this is kinda sorta what I mean. While Sabi isn't much to note on her own, I view her transformation to Rust as being a bit less subtle than turning into a full fledged Red Demon, it's more of a parasite that isolates itself in her brain; Each time a demon gets her, she gets a headache that gradually worsens with each one from some kind of pressure building in her head. At first, subtle signs of blood occur, such as a nosebleed, then some running from her mouth, then some trickling out of her ears. The mass inside her head gradually dissolves her entire skull, but only her skull, causing her head, and nothing more, to bleed and rot from all sides, with a (literally) head splitting migraine, to boot. (The last time I played as Rust, I noticed that around the last couple of demons the back of her head actually seems to start hanging off her skull, like her entire scalp is rotting off!)

Oh my god writing this makes me feel like such a morbid weirdo right now

No.2234

Great pic, nice text (rotting scalp >_> ) but I didn't totally get what was the objective of the thread. Is it to try and recreate in a more detailed way, the world of .flow? Or simply talk about the world?

No.2235

Recreate. Sorry, it's vague, I know. xD But basically, since the theories thread is all about the plot and has no time for discussing this kind of thing, that's what I'm going for, to build off of things based on the relatively small amount of visual details we're given. Though I guess talking about it and shooting ideas back and forth works too. :v

Another example, spoiler warning~

Relating to the bloody room event; this is kind of a precursor to the True End, in that the hospital's walls are turning organic. The blood stains are not actually stains, but are indeed, alive. From within the room is some incredible source of "the disease" that Sabi is sick with. It is so strong, in fact, that it grows across the walls, spreading outwards and making the walls it's on almost appear alive as veins weave across them and take hold over their environment. Inside the room is something similar to Body World; the walls are entirely covered in pulsating flesh, producing an audible pulse and dripping with some kind of bloody slime, whatever it is that guts are covered in. The disease itself is almost somewhat sentient, and is aware of Sabi's presence during the event. It mocks her by forming images of mouths on parts of the wall, and waits for her to approach it. As she does, it immediately starts to overpower her by disabling any effect she has on, and then worsening as she gets closer to the room. She knows she'll die if she goes any closer, and refuses to enter, but simply breathing in the awful, bloody metallic stench makes her head pound and her vision go fuzzy. (As is indicated by the red static that plays.) Despite her caution, by just breathing in the contaminated air, she's already condemned herself to an awful fate, and it starts to take over her entire body in a similar way to the red demons, by eating away at her from the inside out and giving her one last violent cough of blood before she collapses and dies. The difference between this and the True Ending is that in the ending, Sabi is Rust, and is able to withstand the effects of the disease for whatever reason that I don't feel like going into right now. As such, the hospital in the True Ending is basically what the inside of the room would look like. The Bloody Room event is basically Sabi trying to get to that point before she's physically able to withstand it.

Note that since this is also all a dream, the disease is like some nightmare disease, and does all the things that Post too long. Click here to view the full text.

No.2243

So, let me try:
You can hear the sound of snow being stepped while you walk around, trying to figure out the reason as to why you keep getting to the same place over and over. There's nothing to much to see or ear, as you end up seeing white snow and indistinguishable factory like buildings, calmly releasing soothing white smoke. Eventually you find a room with a flower pulsating with life. As you touch the flower, as if enticed by its existence, all the man-made structures around you begin being covered by roots and flowers. The world once silent and foggy, is now filled with the sound of life, as the roots spread at an abnormal speed. You are unsure if the roots could even envelope you suddenly until you notice that it only spreads through artificial materials. You leave the now greenery filled room as soon as you are able, to be perplexed by the sudden change in the world. You're not sure if it's snow that's falling, or if it's something akin to smog, like parts of a dream that you gradually forget. This once dead like world is now brimming with life, filled with green roots that spread like a disease. They don't seem to poise a threat, but the feeling of stepping the vein like fleshy roots, is both disturbing as it gives a feeling of uneasiness. Feeling as if this new life is guiding you, you reach a stairway. Cautiously making way, you are suddenly alarmed. This new life suddenly blocks the entrance from where you came. You can hear the roots growing at an insane rate behind you, as you paranoiacally descend further in order to save your life. Your dazed run is suddenly stopped, Flowers and root surround you leaving only an entrance, full of light, for you to take refuge in. With all the metallic like surfaces being overrun by this lush green force, and afraid of being consumed by it, Sabi enters the only safe place available, not knowing that inside she'll have to make a choice.

Is it like this? I think I did it wrong and i have the idea that each one of us creates this idea as we play along the way. I think it's still a good idea, albeit unnecessary perhaps.

No, no, that's exactly it! That was interesting, it put the Snowy World into a more detailed context that I hadn't exactly thought of before. It's certainly unnecessary, but I can't think of much I do involving .flow that's for any reason other than my own entertainment.

Though I guess Sabi didn't do such a good job of avoiding being consumed by the flowers. :p

Now, for the Kaibutsu, this is one I've thought of for a while now. (I've drawn the Kaibutsus like five times by now.)

At first, they appear like very clean, preppy school children. Their hair is neat, their uniforms are precise, and they seem all around perfect, save for some strange birthmark like blotches present on their bodies, noticable around their faces in particular. They say nothing, and hardly even make a sound as they walk with clear attention paid to their posture, making their mere existence seem almost ethereal, like a ghost. Upon hitting a neutral Kaibtsu with Sabi's pipe, square in the head, they seem unusually sturdy. While other characters fall to the ground in a bloody puddle, the Kaibutsus hardly move from their perfectly straight standing position, their head simply giving way as the blood splatter out and they let out a scream. Their scream, however, morphs into a strange giggle as they grin vividly and their heads start to shake. The bloody spot on their head from where they were struck begins to bleed more profusely, and the blotches on their body begin to rot and peel away on their own. As the blood from these patches streaks down and covers their faces, all that can be seen is their grins, which begin to stretch across their face beyond what would be thought humanly possible. At this point, it differs from which type of Kaibutsu it is, but the Pigtail Kaibutsu, for example, has her lips begin to peel away, and as the rest of her facial features begin to atrophy and disappear, her grin opens into a mouth that takes up her entire face, making some of her corroding flesh rip and tear from the sudden force. At this point, she lets out one last shriek as her laughing comes to an end, and takes chase after Sabitsuki. The others would have something similar happen, but to their eyes/entire face, something like the photo I attached. (From "Uzumaki".)

That doesn't really have to do with what I'm saying, I'm saying what if adults, like the Doctor and Nurse, couldn't be infected with the virus when it sprang up because it can't effect adults.
Maybe most adults have something in their immune system that keeps them from getting infected.

They die before turning into adults.
So perhaps it's not that adults can be infected, but that rust is a congenital disease.

The music is really calm and relaxing there and snow I love snow. Not to mention the dress effect is such a beautiful effect.

When the area changes to be covered in vines it's even more lovely in that plants vs machines sort of way

Favorite character: pigtailed/mouth kaibutsu of course

Then it's a tie between Oreko and the gas mask maids. If I ever make a new cosplay I'm considering being a gas mask maid because I enjoy cosplays that cover my entire body.

Lol yeah, I get a bit carried away with the details. The specifics are all cut and paste, really. But my point in that theory is mainly that I think the end scene is a chronological order of events of her life time, including both what we see in the game as well as what we don't see.

But what are some other theories regarding the blue girl? I remember the one about her being Sabi's immune system, and while I can somewhat see the vslidity in that theory, I'm still much more sold on her being Sabi's mother, primarily due to the event with her stomach exploding, as well as the fact that she's seen in the hospital bed with what looks to me like a bun in the oven underneath the covers. :u

But when I say it that way, I can see that there's not much to suggest that she's Sabi's mother specifically.

As far as the school and Smile, I got the impression that the dominant "atmosphere" around Smile is that of a clique. All the students hanging around him, Sabi's inability to get to him, as well as her inability to get his attention, he seems very exclusive and somehow powerful in the school. Sabi found him kind of ominous and daunting, and tried join him, imitate him, or be more like him. His grin is him laughing *at* Sabi, particularly when she tries attacking him, saying "Idiot, you think you can hurt ME?" So I thought that him attacking Sabi in the basement was his way of saying "You're not welcome here, we don't like you, get out." In other words, I don't think Smile was being nearly as just and somehow helpful as he would be if he were fighting back a dangerous Rust.

And I'm not sure if I've suggested this theory before, but I thought that the Kaibutsu-Sabi's presence in the school, as well as the presence of the Kaibutsus in the school's lobby, suggested that they were some kind of higher up force in the school. Disciplinarians, maybe, or possibly a group of preppy snobbish kids, with the way that they all wear their neat little uniforms. But, connecting to your theory, Chesir, I do think there was conflict between them and Smile. Smile's some kind of a gangster, I think that goes without saying, which would put him in stark contrast with the preppy little Kaibutsu. Sabi saw the Kaibutsu as the one way to get back at Smile for antagonizing her. And I can't remember which was which, but aren't there multiple versions of the corrupt schoPost too long. I'm not going to go read my theory nor going to get my notes, so i'll just write from what i remember.

iirc we see the blue girl in the hospital in a bed, big version of blue girl in the "womb area" and a blue girl in an area that i think that is connected to the hospital where there's a blue girl on the floor with 6 guys looking at her. I think there was one more blue girl but can't really recall. Being that there are two instances of a dead blue girl in two different ways may turn the mother theory less viable. Plus, iirc, Sabi's room is next to Blue Girl, albeit in "different" hospitals.

Not going to add more, if needed i dumped my theory here, but simply put i think blue girl and Sabi are indeed connected, but doesn't sound like she's her mother. Even Machine Girl (Mechajou, go!) would make more sense as a crippled motherly figure, but that's just a timely opinion.

No.2228

I can't say I visit this site often, so apologies if this theory has already been written here, but I've got a theory that's quite different from the rest of them here. P.S. There's spoilers here for the game EarthBound / Mother 2. If you haven't played these games and don't want to know the story, I recommend you stop reading!

So I'm sort of leaning towards the idea that .flow isn't actually telling some ambiguous or deep story that's meant to be decoded, but that it's actually a homage / retelling of the Giygas foetus theory from EarthBound. For anyone not aware, basically a widespread theory is that the final boss, Giygas, represents a foetus, which the player fights and basically 'aborts' as the characters have to travel back in time to attack Giygas. A slightly more in depth version of the theory ties in with the fact that the boss' portrayal was based on a childhood trauma by the game's writer Shigesato Itoi, in which he walked into the wrong film at a cinema and believed he was witnessing a depiction of rape.

Anyways there's quite a few comparable things I've found that relate to this, which I feel the story is directly referring to, or at least heavily influenced by:

1. Yume Nikki itself was heavily influenced by both Mother 1 & 2. Looking at how .flow adopts and adapts these influences (the Pyschedelic Streets area seems much more influenced by EarthBound's Moonside than anything in Yume Nikki, for example), it's pretty much a given that lol is very familiar with these games.

2. The title 'Mother' itself seems to have quite a recurring theme in .flow. The exploding womb sequence, Sabisuki being the eldest among a wave of sick children, the hospital in the alleyways (backdoor abortions, anyone?) etc.

3. The oversized body parts printed on walls and the like appear very similar to the eye when first presented with Giygas. This one is a bit more tricky as I don't think that's the main motivation towards them (dreams about teeth for example are a traditional sign of failing health, hence why I think references to smiling is so heavy in the game). Certainly rings bells though.

4. On that subject, the final smile of Sabitsuki in the ending looks eerily similar to Pokey's smile at the fight with Giygas. Maybe a reference to the idea of her becoming corrupted?

5. The final elevator sequence is well, pretty much a direct analogy to the boss fight. The only way to find and tackle her reflectPost too long. Click here to view the full text.

No.2233

I personally have a hard time believing that the entire point of the game is to retell the story of Giygas, just because that seems like one hell of a drawn out tribute/homage, but these are some extremely interesting comparisons you've made. I've never played the series, only heard of it and watched the Giygas battle, but I can definitely believe that lol would have been influenced by Earthbound and have made parts of the game similar to it. Lol seems to have been directly influenced by quite a lot of things. :P

The abortion idea *has* been brought up before, I think, seeing as many people relate the body world layout to the womb and think Sabi's birth has something to do with the plot, so the idea that she's "aborting" herself fits in with other theories. On the other hand, though. people are still only theorizing that Giygas deals with abortion in the first place, so it could just be that people love to theorize about abortion, which has certainly been my experience with other things. xD

No.2256

Is it possible to support the theory that the black-haired woman is indeed Sabi's mama is that she died during child-birth and that has scarred Sabi ever since? Like, that has to be a terrible weight on a child and then to grow with that into your teenhood reh teh teh.

Like the gory gut-exploding reh teh teh is how Sabi imagined it to be and it's something that she's blamed herself for?
