IMO it would work well if done in the style of Cat Soup.

Minimal dialogue, little-to-no-characterization, main character just semi-passively wandering through strange landscapes, etc. It'd be more faithful to the game that way.

If there were to be an anime, I think it should be like a short animation kind of thing.
Not as long as a full film, but not too short.

I remember some YN threads on /v/... people were talking about what would happen if it was made into an anime.
The best idea I read was something similar to the Animatrix and that it should be several short films made by different animation studios. And maybe the first and last short would be live action.

But anyways, a Yume Nikki film by Studio 4°C. Holy shit, fund it now. Especially if it looked something like the Minotaur scene from Tekkonkinkreet.

It's probably off-topic for this thread, but Yume Nikki reminded me of waaaay back when I used to read Parasyte.

...but the thought of having a YN manga or anime makes me cringe. The game is supposed to be nondescript and offputting, making an manga (especially anything involving Tokyopop, god help us) would just fuck it all up. It's been taken out of context enough, methinks.

Watching the anime is an act that truly can only ever be regretted.
All the more so if you watch it before you read the SNs.

The anime manages to ruin every great moment in the entire story. And I didn't even think the Endless Nine faceoff (and more importantly the scenes leading up to it) COULD be completely ruined. Yet they still somehow managed to do it.

tl;dr the anime is a horrible insult to all creation.
The anime OP and ED songs are, however, quite formidable.

What you're looking at here is a Touhou version of Wacky Races, and I'd like to think they're a perfect matchup. If you aren't old enough to remember Wacky Races, think Mario Kart with Hanna-Barbera, and tune in to Boomerang and learn something for once. Now, hopefully some doujin gaming circle will gather this wonderous idea, and make a game about it...

Just when you think things couldn't get any more worse or heartbreaking, it does. Again. And again and again and again.... Despite being extremely depressing it's such a great series and I highly recommend it.
Plus it's all free and subbed on youtube since it hasn't been licensed yet.
